Forgot it was a makeup game, that explains the weird start time for a Monday game. -

Irabu, matsui and Tanaka signed with the Yankees, Dice K and this past offseason Yoshida signed with the Red Sox, Fukudome and Seiya Suzuki with the Cubs, Darvish with the Rangers along with a bunch of lower hyped guys with other teams so it does happen but all things being equal I do agree that they'd prefer to stay on the west coast. -
Literally just saw some twitter account(maybe PFF?) post a clip of DC doing up downs with the boys so can already mark that one off.

Tigers just announced that Jung has been promoted to AA, Jobe to High A, Luke Gold to High A and Wenceel to AAA.

Ty Madden had another good outing today. 5IP 3H 1R(solo HR) 10Ks. In his last 3 starts he's given up just 7 hits and 1 run combined with 20Ks.

Besides the bullpen I think the most important things managers do is what takes place behind the scenes. For instance Leyland's in game strategies would annoy me alot but he seemed to have a good feel for when guys needed a day off and when certain guys needed to play. -
Different sport but it's crazy to think Robert Parish played against John Havlicek and Kobe Bryant. Havlicek's rookie year was 1962 and Kobe's last year was 54 years later in 2016.

That explains it, I was only half watching so I only saw the ball go to the plate. -

Not complaining about Short getting a hit but is there a reason that he didn't advance to 2nd on the throw home? If he did then he would've just scored on that Vierling single. -
That was arguably the dumbest move he has made as a coach and to his credit he atleast owned up to it afterwards. Even if we had Jason Hanson back there it just didn't make sense to try that long of FG since even if we hit we'd still only be up 6. You were much better off either going for it or punting away.

I know it's easy to armchair QB these things but honestly I think teams should intend on using 4 downs all the time once they get to midfield. Yeah you may get burned once in awhile but in the grand scheme of things I believe it will pay off in the end. I think there is a reason teams score so often when they trail and in obvious 4 down situations and it's not just cause the defense is relaxed, it's because they know they are going to use 4 downs and call plays accordingly. For instance in normal circumstances if it's 3rd and say 6 the defense knows that you are almost assuredly going to pass the ball but if you plan on using 4 downs that opens up delayed draws or other runs that can take advantage of the defense.

Manning gets out of the jam but the stuff and command doesn't look good, he's got to pick it up or else this Padres lineup will feast on him. -
BTW it may say more about the current state of pitching prospects in general but Law has Jobe as the 3rd best pitching prospect in all of baseball right now only behind Skenes who was viewed as generational and Tink Hence of the Cardinals.
-
They missed by 1 year but Nolan Ryan pitched from 66-93 and Alex Rodriguez played from 94-2016 so one of them was in the league every year for 50 straight seasons.
-
I don't hate it. I don't think they play in our A league but I do know the catcher in the Padres system that they signed last year out of Venezuela is in A ball right now and I believe he is only 17 but outside of him I don't think there is anybody else in all of A ball younger than Clark.
-
When I answered my mind was thinking that they wanted both in the same year so the guy I picked was pretty obvious, it wasn't till after finishing the test and seeing that there were 30 possible answers where I realized that it didn't have to be the same year. Total brain fart.

βΎοΈ Immaculate Grid 111 9/9: Rarity: 147 IMMACULATE! π©π©π© π©π©π© π©π©π© Play at: https://immaculategrid.com @immaculategrid x @baseball_ref Another one with the Tigers in it which makes it so much easier, the problem though with this one is that a couple of the spots had a limited amount of answers so it made it harder to find a rare answer. Also I completely drew a blank for the bottom left question and was forced to go with an obvious pick.
-
Facially he looks like a grown man compared to Max Clark. Also got a set of paws and forearms on him as well for an 18 year old kid.
-
That may have had something to do with it but I think in general Campbell and the LIons are more analytic based and the analytics usually side with going for it on 4th down and short inside the 40 regardless of who your kicker is.

Yeah I have no interest in trading Carpenter not only for the reasons G2 outlined but also I suspect that given his relatively small sample size along with not having a premium prospect pedigree I just don't think we'd get much for him anyway but that is just an assumption on my part.

Being competitive in 2016 probably ended up being a curse for them cause that fooled them into not selling off that offseason. They may have not gotten a ton more but it had to of been better than what they ended up with if they traded JD with a full year of control, JV coming off a 2nd place CY finish and even Kinsler who was coming off 6 WAR in 2016.
-
I will say though despite Avila botching the JV trade he did get a little unlucky in the fact that from May to about mid July of that year JV just so happened to throw the worst stuff of his career which tanked his value and had teams like the Cubs and Dodgers going elsewhere by acquiring Quintana and Darvish. We probably could've extracted more value if Verlander never went through that stretch.
-
To me how he handled the JD and JV trades were the most baffling to me. For JD I will never agree with trading him 3 weeks before the deadline unless you got a true can't miss Godfather type offer which he obviously didn't get. The JV trade is more hear say but IF the rumors are true about the Astros listing guys that we're untouchable and gave Avila a list of guys he could take then I would've told them to screw off. I'd make them give me 1 of those guys, if they refuse then just wait till the offseason to trade him, it's not like he had to be traded then. Instead it seems like he just settled on their offer but admittedly that is just hear say. Either way I don't think it was a good idea to have the centerpiece of the trade be a 19 year old pitcher, I would've much preferred either a pitcher closer to the majors or preferably a bat.
