Shame it was ruled incomplete cause it partially touched the receivers hands who was out of bounds, still Wallace did all he could.

Damn that was a helluva pick there.

2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread
RandyMarsh replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
Yes the lack of power is the biggest concern for me, if he was hitting for his normal power right now he wouldn't look too bad but it's all but disappeared with us. I don't know if it's cause of his approach and him trying to be somebody he isn't or if it could just be physical decline. IIRC when he was coming up his power/bat speed was heavily credited to his hand and wrist speed vs. something like pure power so is that something that you can potentially lose earlier than other things? -

This is the harsh truth. Javy may show some flashes here and there but I think everybody just has to except that this isn't the same guy that was an MVP candidate 5-7 years early on his career. -
Erie is on right now as the game of the day on milb.com as they take on Paul Skenes.

The: "Can we not do this anymore?" 2024 MLB Draft
RandyMarsh replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Tigers
I haven't checked the schedule so I don't know how many games we have left with the White Sox but if we don't have many realistically 5th is probably the lowest/highest(depending on your viewpoint) that we will end up. The furthest I see us dropping is 12. -
Jim Bowden updated his top 50 on The Athletic, has Max Clark 14, Colt Keith 18 and Jackson Jobe 30th(Mayer 11th for those still keeping score). No other Tiger made the list but I'll take having 3 top 30 prospects.

You'd think they'd be able to rule out whether it came from outside the stadium based on the trajectory of the entrance and exit points(assuming there was one).

2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread

I brought it up in another post but aside from a couple dominant months in 2021 Javy has basically been below replacement level at the plate since pre pandemic so this isn't some 1 or 1 and a half year slump like say a Bellinger had where a team might believe that it is indeed just a bad stretch. We're talking 4 years now where the overwhelming majority of the time he has been down right terrible so if he were to opt out I don't see a team offering him anything more than a 1 year incentive laden or low dollar amount contract. -
Week One: Detroit Lions (0-0) @ Kansas City Chiefs (0-0)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
In terms of different type of outcomes this is the order I'm most confident in them happening. 1. Lions hang tight to the end but lose a close one 2. Lions hang tight till half time and KC pulls away in the 2nd half 3. Lions win a close one. 4. KC blows them out from start to finish. 5. KC hangs tight for a half but Lions pull away in the 2nd half.(Think UM vs. OsU 22) 6. Lions dominate from start to finish and blow them out. 7. Ot tie -

38-37 Chiefs. Lions lose on final possession cause either A. they miss the go ahead kick or B. they fo for it on 4th down cause they don't trust the kicking situation and don't convert. Sorry for the Debbie Downer post but in my gut that is truly what I feel. Btw the reason for the odd 37 is cause of a missed xp or two. -
Zonovan Knight who the Jets just cut could be a possibility as a 3rd rb Had a couple strong games for them last year when he got the bulk of the carries.

Tigers follow up the amazing walkoff on Friday with 4 of their most lifeless games of the season where they didn't lead at any point during any of the games. -

Tork in a funk as well, 2 for his last 25 with no XBH and of course all the errors. Par for the course for him though, anytime he starts to mash and get you to think he is finally breaking out he goes on a huge slump and basically ends up to where he was before. I was hoping this past breakout would be different but so far it looks like more of the same. -
Rc+ factors in the environment and the guys like Keith who are performing all have high ones so despite the scoring environment they are superior to their peers.
-
I never understood why teams felt the need to carry more than 2 QBs anyway. The likelihood you are ever going to need 3 in a game is extremely small and even if it gets to that point chances are you're probably screwed anyway no matter who your 3rd QB is.

I knew for sure he won a Cy for the reasons I mentioned but I was a little afraid that I misremembered the year he won and it was with the Dodgers and not the A's.
-
For the A's Cy? I got Bob Welch and in turn a low rarity score only because he graduated with my Mom and they went to either homecoming or a Prom together. After he won the Cy my Dad would joke with us about how she dumped a future Cy Young winner for him and things of that nature.

As a viewer I like it especially during the week when I don't really do much in the evening. It's nice having the games being done around 9ish and then I still have time to watch one of my shows or two before bed. I also work 7-3pm and work close to home so it's not like getting home at 5:30 or 6 or whatever and having to rush to make dinner and do other things before the game comes on. If that were the case I may not like it as much. -

In Javy's last 18 full calendar months of baseball dating back to 2020 7 of them were sub .600, 7 600-.700 and 4 .800 plus. So basically for 4 years now almost 40% the time he has hit like almost literally the worst starting player in the league, another 40% of hitting well below league average and only 20% where he was a plus bat. If you put more weight on recent performances than that number magnifies even more so we're at the point where it's not just a slump more likely just the player he is now.

Kelly Stafford says Stafford is having a hard time "jelling" with all the young Rams. She says that Matt says it's cause they don't interact like the players used to, saying things like most of his career guys would bond by playing cards, ping pong etc. after practices but now all the young players do is keep to themselves and "go straight to their phone". Yep Stafford has officially become the old "get off my lawn" man.

You hear stories about people being shot several blocks away by stray bullets being shot up in the air and Ive seen videos(maybe Mythbusters as well?) that prove that falling bullets are indeed still deadly if hit in the right spot so the stray bullet theory definitely holds alot a water. The question then becomes whether it was intentional with hopes that something like this would happen or just an idiot that thought it would be fun to fire rounds in the air and didn't think about the consequences.

I haven't really been paying attention to things the past few weeks but what's the deal with mentioning Houston here? Has he not looked good in camp and preseason and they feel last year is a fluke or something?
-
There could be some truth to them specifically targeting Leonard with the hope that he could potentially be an option at short next year but I dont think its cause they are worried about Baez opting out. I think it's more that they realize that they may be closer to competing for the division next year than they thought they would be at the start of this year nd they realize that one way or another upgrading at short may be needed to make that happen. Basically if Javy opts out great but I think even if he doesn't despite his contract they will or already are looking for an upgrade at SS next year even if it means eating his contract or making him a bench player
