I would love Turner, Benton and Tillman.

Yep sad, what makes it even sadder is that it's not like this is just a 1 or even 2 season thing. This is now 7 seasons of sub par at best to atrocious at worst seasons. In that time he's only hit 61 HRs total, which is just insane to think about. -
I don't think the guys they took were necessarily reaches in terms of the players ability, people just think they're reaches based off of position value so I think that makes it different. Gibbs was the consensus number 2 back and best available and Campbell was either 1A or 1B at his position. That means if you really wanted them theres a good chance you were gonna have to use a 1st on them cause all it would've took was 1 team to decide they want that position and they would've been gone. Its obvious the Lions didn't want to take that chance and wait till the 2nd rd to try to get them.
-
Look at the grades of the players not the rankings. Again it has been said for months that the guys from 10-40ish are very similar and can almost be interchangeable. It's just that somebody has got to be 10 and somebody 40 even though they are almost equal players.
-
I definitely want to get a DB preferably Porter but if not him there is Turner and Moss who both seem to be of the grade to pick in the 2nd. Also want a WR preferably Tillman. The other pick Id be fine with guard or just going non rb bpa.
-
If witherspoon was indeed their guy I would like to see how they reacted when the pick was made.
-
They've had some misses due to injury but of the non injured/gambling addict picks they almost all played to atleast their draft spot and in most cases much higher so agree for now they earn the benefit of the doubt.
-
Holmes: "hey Jalen this is Brad Holmes ready to be a Lion?" Jalen: "idk how early do practices start and do I get a v6 or v8 Mustang from the Fords?" Brad : *clicks* "hey Dan I think we need to call Arizona back about that trade offer"
-
Im more skeptical of the Gibbs pick, I have zero qualms about the Campbell pick, in fact I really like it.
-
Not to mention he scored the highest RAS of any LB this year and I believe one of the highest in recent memory. Ive seen his grade as low as 87 but as high as 92. Fwiw Carter has been between 89-93 so not a massive difference.
-
Id love to get Hopkins but I have a hunch that the Lions are going to use one of their picks today on an outside receiver. Reason being is that before the Gibbs pick Schefter talked about how the Lions had 5 picks coming up and that they were intending to use them to upgrade the pieces on their offense. It sounded alot to me like they want more firepower than just Gibbs.
-
Again we also have to keep in mind Carter isn't this can't miss half a generation type prospect. If this was any other year he would be seen as just another top 10 prospect, a guy that is talented but not the guy you lose sleep over passing up particularly with the issues he has. That's not to say I didnt want him but that was due to the fact that I felt he could make an immediate impact and I still feel he may have the highest upside in the draft but I also concede that he also has a high bust/disappointment chance as well.
-
What if Carter and Wilson turn out to only be "nice players" or are you just assuming that both are going to be these studs despite being graded less than guys like Thibs and Walker were last year and nobody was crowning them All Pros when they were drafted.
-
Id rather keep Swift for what little I think we can get for him at point. Not to mention the rare times he is healthy he is a difference maker so having him in the backfield with Gibbs maybe being in the slot or being used for jet sweeps could be a nightmare for opposing defenses.
-
Holmes said something about feeling like there were 5 true difference makers in this draft and he felt Gibbs was one of them. So my theory is that he had Anderson, Witherspoon, Bijan and Gibbs as 4 of them.(dont know the 5th perhaps it may have even been one of the qbs) So when the Seahawks took Witherspoon leaving the 2 rbs left as the difference makers he decided to take a chance and trade back figuring 1 of them would be there which of course he was.
-
So long as Jamo doesnt get hurt or in trouble again it should be really fun to watch him and Gibbs together out there. Talk about explosiveness.
-
To add to Cardinal's post about value I got a kick out of Kiper giving the Falcons **** for drafting Bijan at 8 instead of in the 20s like where his "value" is. If you want to question the pick due other reasons that fine but this argument will never make sense to me. NFL teams don't get to pick and choose where they want to pick at and where they pick said players at. It's not like the Falcons can say "Hey Roger give us Bijan at pick 25", all they can do is pick the player highest on their board at the slot they have. Yes you could say you could trade back but A you need to find that team to trade with and B. there isn't a guarantee that guy will be there at that pick. Bottom line the draft is about getting the best players for your organization as possible, if you have to reach a little or get low "value" so be it, better that than missing out on the players you want.
-
If you view them pretty equal like apparently Holmes did then yeah getting that extra capital is worth it but as much as I like Gibbs I think he's a tier below Bijan.
-
As far as rd 2, I would love to get Porter at 34 but I worry with the Steelers picking 1st they will snag him, not only because of him as a player but the ties to his father playing there for so long. Seems like it would be a natural fit. Assuming that happens then Id probably either go Brian Branch or DJ Turner. Riley Moss is another possibility if they want to go back to back Iowa defenders. I'm sure kl2 would like that.
-
Even though I like Gibbs I still think I wouldve just taken Bijan at 6 given the relatively low return they got. Gibbs certainly has the potential to be really good and should immediately help the offense but I think Bijan has the chance to be real special like HOF and perennial Pro Bowler special. I don't think it's worth passing on that for what we got. Holmes will never say it but I do wonder if he was counting on Bijan being there at 12 and Atlanta surprising everybody by taking him threw a wrench in that plan?
-
I think some people get too caught up in the actual rankings instead of the actual grade of the player. Like I see people bitching about Campbell cause many people had him ranked in the 40s but the thing is that yes he was ranked in the 40s but his grade was nearly the same as guys in the teens and in some cases the same. Its been said for months that this draft wasnt exactly strong at the top and there wasn't a big drop off from say the 10th guy to the 50th guy.
-
For YEARS I've heard people bitch about the Lions not having a LB that can run sideline to sideline, keep up with TEs up the middle or be able to help stuff the run. Now when they get a guy that projects to do that suddenly it isn't important and outdated.
-
They got the consensus number 2 RB and according to many top inside LB in the draft. They both definitely appear to be reaches based off online mocks but those aren't gospel. At the very least they drafted top tier players at their respective positions.
-
lol wow. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Jack Campbell he is my favorite off the ball LB but if you were to believe the online rankings seems like a guy we could've gotten at 34.
-
Still would've preferred to just take Bijan at 6.
