The RB argument from the way I understand it is not necessarily just the short shelf life but teams feel that they are more easily replaceable than other positions. Like if your starting RB goes down to teams it isn't as damaging as most other positions, they feel they can just plug in the next guy and block and create holes for him to run behind. As an avid fantasy football player who has had to pickup a backup because my early round starter got injured I can attest that there may be some truth to that cause often times you don't lose out much from those backups but like everything else there are exceptions. Certain RBs just make the entire offense so much better when they are in there, I think of Saquon Barkley among today's backs. Daboll got all this credit for being an offensive genius this year but I think having a healthy Saquon was just as critical to their offensive success as anything.

2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread

I don't think this is the case but without using hindsight I think really the only way you can be critical of that trade is if the Tigers were aware of Meadows issues or atleast had a suspicion but still went through with the trade thinking they could either correct them or that they weren't that big of deal. -

Bobby Seay, now there's a name from the past. BTW I used to get a kick out of Mario saying "Seay Lyon warming up in the bullpen." anytime Bobby Seay and Brandon Lyon were warming up together. Mario really thought he was being creative and witty with that one, bless his heart! -
Perhaps the Lions think so little of Swift they rather the Eagles add him and think they are now set at RB for the year vs. trading him to another team and the Eagles going out and picking up a better back instead.
-
The Lions also had a higher DVOA and ELO rating. Really there was nothing to indicate that the Seahawks were any better than the Lions other than a 3pt victory at a time in the season where the Lions defense was playing at its worst and the offense was missing most of their playmakers.

He isn't 6'11 or was once drafted in the top 5 so Troy won't be interested.

I guess it says more about the other two than anything but Baez has now passed Tork and Greene in OPS. -

Just to follow this up I decided to google that name and from what I can gather only 8 people in the entire world have that last name so yeah maybe I was right about his Grandparents just making up a last name and deciding to stick with it. -

I simply refuse to believe this dude's family birth surname is legit "Yacabonis" somebody along the line just had to completely make that up. -
Anothet kinda similar Geno comp is none other than Jim Harbaugh. Jim was probably a little better with the Bears than Geno was with the Jets but he wasn't exactly good. Wasn't until his first year in Indy at the age of 32 where he made his 1st and only Pro Bowl and put superior numbers across the board to what he had at any point before.

Goff is more than a "game manager". Those guys don't throw for 4500 yards with 30 TDs and average the 2nd most YPA of any qb in football.
-
Despite my arguing I don't have a problem with Seattle or Dallas being ahead of us even though I disagree, I just don't like when the reason is that they beat us last year or that the Lions need to "prove it".
-
We smoked Jacksonville so I better not see anybody put Jacksonville at or above us!

When you're playing with a bunch of rookies and 2nd year players that isn't mediocre. Normally teams like that are lucky to win 6 games, so the fact that they have held their head above water despite being such a young team is a credit to them and a reason why people are so excited about them.
-
The more I hear about Brown the more I respect Tomlin and his staff for putting up with him and for the most part keeping him relatively in check all those years.
-
The Lions have been 12-11-1 in their last 24 games or about a season and a half. Not spectacular but that is a 9 win seasonal pace despite playing with the youngest roster and in many cases vastly inferior players to what they have now.
-
Yep and on offense the Lions added St. Brown, Jamo, Gibbs and Marvin Jones to the team that faced Seattle. I didn't add Laporta or Montgomery since we lost Hock and Jamaal from that game. I'm sure Seattle added or lost some players too but the point is that these two teams are drastically different then the ones that played early last year so I don't see how you could put any stock in that game to determine who's better. Unless of course youre a natural Lions skeptic and want to find any reasons you can to temper the expectations.
-
I wouldn't say bitch slapped. The Lions put up 45 on them despite playing without their 4 best offensive weapons.(st. Brown, swift, jamo and chark)
-
I agree with the positional logic if you are a team starting from scratch but that wasn't the case with the Lions. They have their qb, both tackles, top 2 WRs and pass rushers so basically all the more valued positions so what should they do? Draft inferior players that wont start and thus probably not contribute as much just cause they play a more valued position? If so I don't agree with that line of thinking.
-
Yeah Jung was just starting to find his groove so of course he gets hurt. Par for the course for the Tigers.
-
Find you somebody that loves you like Rodgers does Cobb.
-
With all this said I certainly don't think it's egregious or or out of line to have the Lions 5th but personally as of now I only see 2 teams that I would put above them in the NFC.
-
I think I like the Lions offseason more than others is because the Lions had a clear liability in the secondary and they appeared to have upgraded it greatly. I don't think any of the comparable teams upgraded a weakness that basically single handedly cost them games like the Lions did with their secondary..... atleast on paper anyway which is all we can really go on at this point. To sum it up other teams may or may not have added better players but I don't think they are as big of upgrades over what they were playing with before as the Lions made.
-
Id put the Lions ahead of the Seahawks and Cowboys. Yeah they lost to them but 1 head to head matchup doesn't necessarily determine who the true better team is. Inferior teams win every week in the NFL. Basically every metric and stat suggested that the Lions were better than the Seahawks and while most had Dallas higher they weren't noticeably higher and if you weighted it more heavy on how they were playing in the 2nd half then the Lions would be higher. Plus I just think the Lions had the better offseason and has more players likely to grow and get better than Dallas does.

On a side note the Cardinals are the perfect example of how quickly things can change in the NFL for better or worse. A year and a half ago they were riding high looking like they may have a chance at a 1st round bye, then we destroyed them and they haven't been the same since.
