I know it's dangerous to do "box score scouting" when it comes to minor leaguers cause they don't necessarily paint the picture on how they will handle big league pitching but it's hard not to get excited about Carpenter's numbers this year and how he seemingly keeps getting better as the year goes on particularly his K/BB numbers.

Tork 2-4 with a double, HR and a walk.

I know there are alot of Copa haters and there are things I don't like about it but just saw "Marlins Fan" post this and he apparently loved it here and he's been to every park multiple times. -
I do wonder how Cabrera would fair if he was on a contender, the type of team where he would essentially be a bench bat or start maybe a game or two a week? His empty BA wouldn't look so bad on a team that has a lot of guys on base so all those singles don't go to waste. Unfortunately for him he provides no value on defense or on the basepaths so I don't know if a team would be willing to waste a roster spot on just somebody that does that.

Al Avila: “You’ve got to go full bore from Day 1"
RandyMarsh replied to Useful Idiot's topic in Detroit Tigers
True but at the time I can understand promoting Avila since he was the right hand man for a decade of good Tiger baseball at that time. It's not like the Lions promoting Mayhew after Millen was fired or something. Of course little did we know then how little Avila had to do with that success, on the surface at the time you thought with him working closely with DD all those years he would've picked up his strong traits while also being more "new school" than him and focusing more on analytics and player development instead of relying on trades or FA. -
Aside from the splitter Mize was also thought to have a plus FB as well due to the movement and command. Here's a snippet I found pre draft from bless you boys about the FB with quotes from Law and Sickels. "Mize’s fastball is no slouch, though. According to Sickels, Mize has sat between 93-95 miles per hour with the fastball this season, topping out at 96 mph. “The pitch has above-average movement yet he commands it well, which is almost unfair...” added Sickels. MLB Pipeline also graded it as a plus offering, in part thanks to “exceptional” command of the pitch. Law echoed these sentiments, giving Mize’s fastball a plus grade. Mize pounds the lower half of the strike zone with the fastball, leading to plenty of ground balls. Said Law, “Between the fastball and splitter [Mize] could probably go entire games without giving up a fly ball on nights in which he has better command.”

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34348525/los-angeles-rams-coach-sean-mcvay-says-matthew-stafford-elbow-pain-abnormal-quarterback Now that Staff has his ring I wouldn't be heartbroken if he misses time or is ineffective this year and the Rams lose bc of it.

The dream scenario is we get a better SS this offseason and move Javy to 2nd where I think he would excel at since it seems like his biggest problem has been his throwing. Its a long shot though since I don't see Chris opening up his wallet again so the best bet of that happening would probably come from somebody within like Kriedler taking the job.

I def think hed take a buyout but the question is how much would it take? Would he take 20 which would leave 11 million on the table for him? If he is as broken down as he seems I think giving up 11 million would be a small price to pay for not having to suffer through another season. -
I wonder if we will get a comp balance A pick this year? I know we got one 2 years ago and this past draft we had a B pick so if they alternate years we should be in line to get one.
-
Despite it being effective at every level he has played I'm waiting for them to change Jung's stance because of how funky he holds the bat, he will then predictably struggle cause it doesn't come natural to him.
-
I agree with all of this but just a minor quibble and that's that I think just about anybody wouldve taken Mize with the first pick, atleast if you were to believe the national pundits. Even Law who is about as anti pitcher as you could get said he'd be the slam dunk choice at 1 if he were picking there. But yeah otherwise I agree 100%.

Tork 2-3 with a BB an no Ks today. He's starting to pick it up the last few games after the dreadful start in Toledo. Granted keeping tabs on what he is doing in Toledo and celebrating a decent week down there isn't exactly what me or any of us hoped we'd be doing at this point but it's still nice to see him making a little progress.
-
A non Soto and Bell Nationals lineup like deGrom faced probably is equal to A ball at this point so I cosign this post!
-
I went and looked and the league average ops for his A ball league this year was a .686 and he was at a .756 while being 2.1 years younger than average. Also he is 30th overall in OPS, not sure if they were younger or older but there were 5 other 19 year olds higher than him.
-
They were playing some of his iconic calls on the radio this morning and as a relatively younger person I didn't realize he called some football too and was on the call for the "the catch" the Montana to Clark TD to send SF to the SB.

Hey we improved 5 percentage points over 5 years! At that current rate by about 2200 we'll be challenging for the division!
-
Strikeouts are definitely part of today's games but without checking Id imagine most of the highest teams atleast offset that with high HR totals unlike the Tigers who are about 20 HRs behind the 29th ranked team.
-
Yup,a few years ago the white Sox had a top 5ish system only to fall to bottom 5 due to graduations/trades but since all those moves helped them making the playoffs multiple times it really wasn't that big of deal. Are situation is quite different than that.

Bunch of promotions down on the farm!

Nice to go to Toledo's box score and see Tork, Carpenter and Kriedler all homering, that's the Mud Hen hat trick right now.
