You would think. I know it's not an exact same analogy but as a part time golf instructor who uses things like Trackman and high speed cameras with students my main objective is identifying the problems and fixing them. I'm not going to turn a high handicapper into a PGA Tour Pro but I use the tech to identify their flaws and correct them. With regular clients who are more highly skilled that come for specific needs/flaws I find the differences that are causing them and create drills to make sure they fix them. Sometimes despite my best efforts they still struggle but I'm not a world class instructor and I'm not working with world class players like MLB hitting coaches are. To me if you're an MLB hitting coach you should be one of the top 1% at what you do and you are working with top 1% of players so it should be your job to fix their flaws and maximize their abilites and I just don't think that is the case with Coolbaugh and the Tigers. As bad as they are these guys shouldn't be THIS bad.

Another quality start for a Tigers starter and a rare time where we actually got him some runs which by Murphy's law means that we are going to get a BP meltdown. -

C-Mo brings up a pretty good point about these young AAAA type players not buying into the old "choke up just put the ball in play and give yourself" type mentality cause they may feel like just doing little things like that may not keep them up in the big leagues, if you're hitting .190 but "moving the runners up" in your mind atleast you're likely not going to keep your job so you force yourself to try to make an impact which can lead to more Ks. -
In regards to the Tigers pitching injuries it seems like every day I watch a game and look at the news crawl at the bottom of the screen there is some pitcher throughout the league getting a TJ or various other surgeries so it appears to not just be a Tigers problem. Unfortunately for us it is top guys like Mize and Skubal getting the injuries instead of lesser players.

Tigers offense exploding for 3 runs in 4 innings...which means they are now in line to get shutout for the next 10 or frames. -
BTW how exactly does he pronounce his name, is it Cool-baw(rhymes with Paw), Cool-bow(as in 'take a bow'), Cool-Beau or something else? I don't recall ever hearing his name so in my head I always read it as "Cool-baw".

Despite this I believe we have the worst record in the majors during this time which just seems unfathomable. -

Cy Sandoval indeed gets the Maddux, complete game shutout on only 97 pitches. -

At this rate Sandoval may get himself a "Maddux", the ole complete game on sub 100 pitches. -

I thought maybe AJ would send Manning back out for the 8th since he has only 90 pitches but I can't blame him for erring on the side of caution. BTW have we had a starter all season pitch into the 8th inning? -

I don't listen or watch every broadcast but atleast from what I hear you never hear the announcers talk about Coolbaugh or what he is having a specific hitter work on. Like with previous coaches you'd often hear them say things like "Lloyd is having x working on doing y" or something to that effect. I never hear anything about the hitting or lack there of in regards to this regime. -

Despite the low RPMs on the FB it does seem to have some life and "rise" to it. -

Manning must've read this cause he just induced 4 on only 15 pitches in the 5th inning. -

Forgot that Manning's MLB debut was just over a year ago last June, for some reason I was thinking he was up for us during the Covid season. -

Only downside thus far for Manning is the only having two swings and misses on 56 pitches, he took a major leap in that department in his last start and I was hoping that would be a sign of things to come but it may just have been an outlier start. Still can't really argue with all the groundballs and the only blemish being the HR that just snuck fair. -
Outside of possibly managing the bullpen the most important thing for a manager for me are the things that happen behind the scenes that we as fans don't really have access to. Take Leyland for instance, I think this was one of his strong suits, he seemed to know when guys needed days off and new what buttons to push with each player to maximize their abilities. Some may not have agreed with his in game tactical strategies(most notably some of his lineup constructions) but how he actually managed the team away from the field made up for any of his shortcomings.

Nothing but whiffs and weak contact the past few weeks, safe to say that Riley's been "Coolbaugh'd". -
Oh yeah forgot about the achilles it could be that.

I get the feeling we were sold damaged goods with Meadows, Ill give the Rays the benefit of the doubt in that they may not have known and Austin kept the vertigo problem to himself cause he may not have thought it was a big deal but it got to the point this year where he couldn't hide it anymore. I'm not gonna pretend to know a lot about the disease but I do know people that have it and while they live pretty normal lives their professions don't require them to hit a little round object coming at your at 95mph. I couldn't imagine how difficult that would be if your berrings were just a little off.

Wish I didn't have things going on all weekend, wouldve loved to venture down and see Shohei in person. -
It would be awesome to get Wembanyama but knowing that you are going to have a 14% chance of getting him even if you finish dead last makes it hard to spend all season rooting for losses. Like NYLion said the draft is supposedly pretty deep so unless you do indeed get Victor there probably isn't much of a difference between picking 2 or 10th so I'll be rooting for wins and most importantly progress from the young guys.

Damn wish I was at that game sabre, should be a good one!

Micro would be the one to answer this but I wonder how the Tigers compare to other orgs in regards to how they push guys. It feels like they are pretty aggressive but without following all the other orgs closely I really don't know if that is true or not and if it is could it have anything to do with their players not developing right? Perhaps they need to ease off the gas and not challenge guys so quickly if they indeed are more aggressive than other orgs?

It is one of those things that gets underappreciated for how difficult it must be. I remember maybe 15 or so years ago Sportscenter had a special dedicated to this Husband and Wife who were in charge of MLB scheduling. Its been so long I can't remember the details but if IIRC it was just them two that did the whole leagues schedule and they did it all out of their house with up until just a few years before it aired with just pencil and paper and no cpus.
