Jack Morris with the old "he did stay at a Holiday Inn joke", yeah typical Jack to use something that was popular decades ago. -
Week Two: Washington Commanders (1-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-1)

Went and looked and ESPN had him 35 overall but Rivals had him at number 3 overall behind only Lawrence and Fields so maybe I was thinking about them. -
Here's a tidbit I noticed while looking up Judge's stats this year to really put in perspective how good he is, the difference in OPS between him and the 9th highest OPS in the AL Alex Bregman is the same as Bregman is to the lowest OPS in the AL are own Johnathan Schoop. That is just crazy to think just how far ahead he is than everybody in the AL not named Yordan and even Yordan he has over a 100 points more than.

Golladay bitching about being benched saying that he should be out on the field, sorry Kenny but Stafford(with a healthy elbow) isn't walking through that door to help you out.

I believe ESPN had him as the number 1 overall recruit coming out of HS so yeah he definitely has some pedigree. -

I worry about playing a team right after they got embarrassed on national TV. I have no idea if there is actual any real data to support this but it always feels to me like teams respond positively the next week after something like that. -

Its fantasy so it doesn't necessarily correlate 100% to actual rankings but a couple rest of season fantasy rankings have St. Brown at 6 for WR and Swift as high as 4 for RB. Weird to see 2 Lions players ranked that high. -

I think the difference this year is that there is something tangible to point to with the Staff elbow injury. He's tough as nails so he's going to play through it but the times he did that here is play naturally suffered so that could be what we could be in store for this year. When those balls you're used to throwing in tight windows don't quite have the same zip on it they end up in defenders arms instead of the receivers and that's what been happening thus far. And for the record I'm not predicting his demise just saying that if this injury is legit and it lasts most of the season he could struggle and looking at the Rams schedule there aren't a whole lot of easy games like the Atlanta one where they will have some margin for error -

This coincides with the eye test that seemed like he was hitting the ball harder but had some tough luck outs, if he continues to hit the ball like this next year the results will eventually catch up. -

Haha that's awesome btw I always wondered what the announcers meant by "spotter" when going through the credits at the end of the game, I kinda figured it was guys that told the announcers who made each play and this video confirms that by showing the dudes with binoculars pointing to the players name on the card almost immediately after the play is made. -
Also if you're a AAAA type pitcher that may only pitch in the big leagues for a cup of coffee like many pitchers in September do it would be a pretty cool "war story" to tell friends years from now. Yeah saying you pitched a few weeks in the big leagues is pretty damn cool in itself but telling people that you were the won to serve up the AL HR record or the 700 HR to a hall of famer would make for an even cooler story.

I dont know many people that remember the pitcher's name by heart but their fame comes from being featured in the highlights that will play on for eternity. When the highlight is still being shown 50 years you can point to your Grandkids and say "that's your grandpa right there throwing that pitch." That seems kinda cool to me.

Tigers Hire Scott Harris as President of Baseball Operations
RandyMarsh replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
Regarding Yzerman being named in the presser, going by Beck it sounds like him and Harris were acquaintances after meeting at Wrigley a few years back so perhaps Steve's role was to put in a good word about Chris/Ilitches and the city of Detroit and their fanbase in general. -

From what the peeps on Twitter are saying it sounds like Harris nailed the press conference. -

Last year many of Stafford's picks were the "arm punts" where you just heave it 40+ yards downfield on 3rd and long in hopes of drawing a penalty or making a miracle catch, if it gets picked no real harm done but this year from what I seen its been the more harmful type of interceptions. -

Between the results on the field, the work ethic and his pedigree in college its hard not to be a Rodrigo believer but I still have to remind myself that it's only been 2 weeks and to not get too excited just yet. -

Cousins and the Vikings for that matter always seem to be one of the most jekyll and hyde teams in the NFL, theres weeks where he and them look elite and others where they look like trash, here's hoping for the latter on Sunday. -

Speaking of running QBs it looks like Malik Willis may be coming into the game tonight with the Titans down 41-7. -

Tigers Hire Scott Harris as President of Baseball Operations
RandyMarsh replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
Here's a little write up about the hire from Passan, also highlights some of the issues we've had this year but that's stuff most fans already know about. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/34624852/detroit-tigers-hiring-san-francisco-giants-gm-scott-harris-president-baseball-operations -
Tigers Hire Scott Harris as President of Baseball Operations

Its almost like Chris said "find me somebody who is the polar opposite of Al." -
The meteoric crash of Emoni Bates is probably going to be a future 30 for 30 topic some day. From most hyped HS prospect since LeBron as a HS sophomore to essentially a non prospect as a College sophomore and that doesn't even bring into play all the off the court issues.

I like it, seems like he was a guy that many considered in high demand and pegged to run a team shortly so sounds like it could be a good hire. -

I don't know if game manager is the right term for him since after all they are scoring a bunch of points but I think Goff has been extremely smart with the ball and risk adverse. He knows who is playmakers are in Swift and St. Brown and he is making sure he is getting them the ball in space. He isn't forcing things and when things aren't there he essentially is just throwing the ball away by putting it somewhere that the defender can't get to, maybe a time will come where he will have to get more aggressive but until that time comes he can keep doing what he is doing and they should be fine cause of some of the weapons they have on the team and there ability to run after the catch.
