Week Two: Washington Commanders (1-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-1)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
This is definitely one of those rare games from the past few seasons where I will be genuinely disappointed if they don't win. This is totally a game that they should win but knowing how things go we'll end up getting the Wentz from his one great year and he'll light us up -
I picked them to win the SB so that's the reason why, any team I pick to win turns inti incompetent morons.

Another thing we may have to keep in mind when projecting wins/losses is that the Tigers put up this pathetic win total this year despite the AL Central being atrocious, even more so than expected. What's gonna happen when/if the White Sox bounce back, the Royals and Guardians improve due to their young players and/or strong systems and the Twins can somehow stay healthy?

In these last couple weeks we need to find away to lose 11-0 and 12-0 to complete the whole baker's dozen of shutout loss scores. Definitely not putting it past the troops to pull that incredible feat off. -

Another game another shutout, 21st time this season and now 21 straight innings without a run. -

Admittedly I haven't watched much the past couple weeks but it seems like Tork has been hitting the ball alot better cause I've seen a few tweets in that time that were similar to this -

Still have that cover framed in my mancave, not only cause it has my favorite Detroit Tiger ever but also my favorite Tiger period in Tiger Woods. I would say my 2 favorite athletes period cause Tiger Woods is undoubtedly my favorite ever(yes I consider pro golfers athletes) but I'm not sure if Verlander, Barry Sanders or Ben Wallace would be number 2. Either way a great cover for me. -
The SS is strong again this year with Correa, Swanson, Turner and possibly Bogaerts(has an opt out, currently owed 4/80). Iglesias and Andrus are potential short term answers if you want to move Baez to 2b while still patrolling a half way decent SS until we can hopefully acquire a better long term answer.

Gotta love the hypocrisy of so called fans on the radio, one guy calls in and says fans need to slow their roll on Rodrigo cause it was only one game but then proceeds to say Hutch needs to be on the practice squad labels him a total bust after 1 game. -

I disagree, in that situation field position wasn't as important as getting the ball back. Down two possessions and kicking away with under 10 mins left your odds of winning are very slim. Either way the only way you are likely going to win by kicking away is if you get a quick stop and in that case it doesn't matter where the team gets the ball cause it's not about stopping them from scoring its about stopping them from killing time and getting the ball back yourself quickly as possible. -

As I figured local radio has been filled with people bitching about the on side kick all the while complaining how thy defense is terrible and couldn't get a stop. The on side kick essentially cost them 25 yards of field position. Considering they had a 33% success rate on it last year I have no problem taking a 33% chance of getting the ball back vs. Giving up 25 yards of field position for a team that hadnt shown much ability to getting quick stops which is what they needed in that situation since time was their enemy. -
Totally insignificant game that wasn't on anybody's radar other than the fanbases of both teams but something interesting happened in the Kansas West Virginia game today and that was despite the game going to OT Kansas won by 13 points something that I imagine hadn't happened very often. Here's the reason why.

Speaking of Pujols here's a fun fact, he currently has an OPS+ of 139, if that stands for the rest of the year that would be the LOWEST he ever put up in a Cardinal uniform yet would be higher than any number he put up in his 10 years in LA.

I'm indifferent to the shift, part of me feels that you should be able to align your defense however you want but the other part of me concedes that there are illegal formations in other sports so why should baseball be any different? Regardless I don't think it's going to make as big of difference as people think in terms of how players play. Like the power hitters that you usually shift against are probably still gonna swing for the fences.

His parents dropped the ball by not getting him into tennis as a youth, I could definitely see that name in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon or Roland Garros.

Tigers and Detroit sports fans in general have shown that they will come out when the team wins, not so much when they lose Lions withstanding. When the Tigers were good they were averaging 3 mill + at the ball park now I think they're on pace for about half that. So if you average $100 a head between tickets, parking and concessions that extra 1.5 million people could bring in an extra $150 million a year and that doesn't count for potentially higher local TV ratings which can allow you to get a bigger deal there. Of course spending money doesn't guarantee a better product on the field but you financially it would seem it would be in his best interest to spend as much money within reason that it takes to try to win.

Maybe I'm putting too much faith in Chris but I don't think he's going to "play it safe" when it comes to the hire, if it ends up appearing that way I think it's going to be because people around him that is helping him make the hire talk him into that particular person. For instance if they are down to two guys and one is the "safe choice" and the other may be a potential up and comer viewed as a riskier hire if all the folks around him push for the latter I think he will go that route.

lol damn that sucks, I should've known it was too good to be true!

Aside from playing playoff teams 4 times in the division in Arizona and SF the Rams also have games vs. Dallas, at TB, at NO, at KC, vs. LV, @GB, vs. Den and LAC. That's 12 out of their remaining 16 games against playoff teams including a handful against top 10 teams. They will have to be near their best or they could lose quite a bit.

Aside from a career ending injury I don't care what bad things happen to Stafford this year on the field, I wanted him to get his just due from folks and he got that and a ring so I'm done pulling for him. I want what's best for the team I root for and follow.
-
Bills turn it over 4 times and still win by 21 on the road against the defending champs. Either the Rams just aren't that good with an apparent injured Stafford or this Buffalo team is scary good. Of course weird things can happen on week 1 so perhaps it was just a fluke game but as of now this Bills team looks like they are going to be awfully tough to beat.
-
Yeah him and the Rams in general have looked terrible. Aside from the INTs he just doesn't appear to have the same zip on the ball and has held onto it too long a few times which led to sacks. As bad as the score is The Bills had two careless fumbles and a receiver drop a pass that landed right into a Ram defender for an INT so without those kinda flukish TOs this game would look even worse. Total domination by Buffalo.

FWIW(which probably isn't much) somebody asked about the Tigers GM in Klaw's chat today and here's what he had to say. Bill: Who would be a good fit for the Tigers’ GM position? Keith Law: I’ve seen a bunch of good names and some extremely unimaginative ones. Josh Byrnes has been GM twice and succeeded in neither place. For him to get a third shot while qualified candidates, especially POC candidates, like Dana Brown, Jason McLeod, Billy Owens, Carlos Rodriguez, and others get passed over would be a giant fucking embarrassment for the Tigers and MLB.

People were jokingly saying on twitter earlier that "let's see what Castellanos does when the announcers talk about the Queen's death" and sure enough he delivered with the HR.
