  1. Baez with great base running to turn a single into a double so naturally he offsets that by getting thrown out at home trying to score on a strike 3 wild pitch. Only the Tigers!
  2. Beck says that 82 of Manning's 87 pitches were sliders or fastballs. What happened to his curveball that he used to feature? Did he scrap that since he made his return?
  3. Manning touches 98 to get out of a mini jam.
  4. Haven't watched much the past few weeks so maybe he's done it a few times but that was the first time I can remember seeing Riley take a bad route/get a bad jump on a ball allowing a should be out dropping in for a hit.
  5. Javy up over .850 OPS this month, third month this season over .800 so he's had stretches of great play it's just that when he was bad he was REALLY bad. This is very Porcelloish but if you throw out his disastrous May where he had a .432 OPS he'd be over .750 OPS for the season which considering the environment would be well above league average. Hopefully next year his disastrous stretch will be better in which case he could finish above league average offensively.
  6. Manning back to back Ks to end the 5th. One on a 97mph FB at the knees for a called strike, the other swinging on 96 with glove side run. Good stuff!
  7. Madden had a so so outing tonight, the bad news is he gave up 4 runs in 4 2/3 innings including 3 bombs and a walk, the good news is though that he K'd 9 out of the 18 batters he faced.
  8. Unrelated to the game but I just thought it was cool to see the city of Detroit has produced the 3rd most NFLers. Im honestly a bit shocked by that cause I dont think many people think of Detroit as a football prospect hotbed.
  9. Again not sticking up for the JV return but I think there is alot of revisionist history that goes on with him at that time. When rumors circulated about the Yankees being interested guys like Michael Kay when on the NY airwaves saying that they wouldn't touch him with a 10ft pole especially given the contract. FG published an article saying he was untradeable unless we ate half the deal and even then we'd be lucky to get even a single good prospect in return. It wasn't until after the non waiver deadline where he really looked back from a results and stuff perspective and by then all the teams on his trade list moved on to different options. Still though they didn't HAVE to trade him, they couldve waited till the offseason or next deadline if they weren't happy with the return.
  10. When the Cubs traded for Quintana Verlander was still seen as broken. His peripherals were taking a nosedive in early 2017 vs. 2016. That was in the midst where he was having a hard time breaking 93mph on the gun and couldn't generate whiffs to save his life. In fact the start before the quintana trade Verlander didn't register a single strikeout for the first time in his career. Of course right after that trade and the All Star break he started to find himself again but by that point it was too late, atleast with the Cubs.
  11. Doesnt Goff have a better playoff record than Lamar? If so in some circles that means you're the superior qb.
  12. Like I said before I totally get all the concerns about him and to an extent I share them particularly the style he plays but one thing I will say about him that gives me some hope that he can last longer than other mobile qbs is that one he is pretty stout at 6'3 225lb, another is I think his passing ability is better than guys like Cam and finally he isn't just a great mobile but perhaps the best ever so even if he loses some of that ability with age it will still be better than the vast majority of mobile guys cause he's that far ahead right now.
  13. I don't know enough about the cap to say otherwise but it seems like all these teams that were in supposed cap hell still find ways to add good players so that's not something I get too concerned with.
  14. I share some of those same concerns about Lamae as you do MB, with that said he should be elite for atleast another 5 years so if we could take us to perennial SB contenders during that time I think it would be worth whatever draft capital it takes even if we have to suffer through some dark times after his elite years are over. After all being able to enjoy potentially several conference championship games or God forbid the Super Bowl would be worth any dark times that may follow. We're used to that after all. The danger though is if he only takes us to like the 9 win first round loss territory during his elite years if that were the case I think we will end up regretting all the capital it would take to get him.
  15. Yeah not sure how reliable that is either but really looking at the landscape of the league there aren't a whole lot of potential contenders with qb openings so the Lions may look attractive to somebody like Lamar. They're not a contender but it's not a barren waste land either especially on offense so he may feel that he could take them to the next level.
  16. I miss the days when I cared enough about the team to bitch and get fired up at decisions like Clete batting 3rd, now I'm so apathetic to the team a decision like that may warrant a shoulder shrug from me and that's it.
  17. Its funny how one move or lack of move in this case could potentially change things for over a decade for a franchise. Alot of what ifs but if Juan signs that extension and fails does Mike still pony up for Pudge and Maggs? Hard to say but if the answer is no then we of course don't go to the WS in 2006 or win 90 games in 07, and by having that strong 07 it made Mike want to make a push to get us over the top so we went out and got Cabrera. If we were say a .500 or 70 some win team do we still go after Miggy? So as bad as the franchise has been the last 8 or 9 years if Juan signs that extension there is atleast a chance that we never even got to experience that 10 year run of success.
  18. Definitely glad that the Tigers didn't sign him long term but it's funny how your perception can work sometimes. Like my memory always told me he was once a big name that we traded for after his prime but looking back he was only 30 when we got him and coming off two monster seasons in a row. He then proceeded to put up a decent season for us then another monster one for Cleveland before falling off a cliff at the age of 32. I don't remember why that was but perhaps steroids had something to do with it.
  19. Cool article, its definitely easy to fall in love with the stuff. Fastball sitting mid 90s and touched 100 with 19 inches of vertical movement to go along with that 3300 rpm slider. Its just going to come down to command and of course health, with that type of stuff you don't need to be Greg Maddux but can't be Gregory Soto either, if he can atleast control the stuff he could be a real ace.
  20. I was too young and/or just didn't pay close enough attention at the time to remember much about how things played at Tiger Stadium so I could totally be wrong but did the balls hit to straight away center field atleast go for doubles or triples? To me I think that is the biggest issue, like "death valley" at Copa in RCF doesn't give up many HRs but I don't have that big of issue with it cause atleast guys normally get rewarded with extra base hits but straight away center field it just "seems"(dangerous to seem so perhaps this isn't the case) that balls out there that aren't HRs end up in guys gloves and that's what I don't like, the ones that aren't caught are usually result on misplays by the fielder. I don't know if it's cause CF's just play deeper here or players are just speedier and can cover more ground but either way that's the frustrating part as a fan and I imagine a player.
  21. I remember when we drafted him many of us myself included were happy cause of the upside(some thought he could be Siakam but that was probably a lazy comp) but we also did say there was a high bust chance too, I don't think we thought he would bust this bad though.
  22. I'm not gonna go all Lynn on this subject but it's drives like this that bother me about the park, if you hit it 424 ft you should get rewarded for it and far too often it ends up in a players glove instead. People want guys to stop being pull happy and use the whole field but why should you when you have to be destroy the ball to get rewarded for it?
  23. As of a few days ago when I looked Aaron Judge would have 50+ HRs in every park in baseball with most being in the mid 50s to even 60s but would only have 43 in Comerica. This according to expected hr total via statcast on baseball savant. That's the most prodigious power hitter in the game that hits the ball further than anybody yet he'd have nearly 20% less HRs at Copa than if he did any place else in baseball. That tells me that it's not just our players but the fact that the park does have too extreme deep parts to it.
  24. I swear it seems like Hutch pitches every other game.
