Buck Farmer being rostered for almost 10 years without ever once putting up a plus season is absolutely baffling.
Sometimes you'll see that with position players if they are defensively flexible or provide atleast one positive skill but as a reliever that is just mind boggling and unheard of.
I guess he did have the "skilll" of being able to get stretched out and start at times but that doesn't seem like enough to overcome all his other shortcomings.
Drew Rasmussen of the Rays lost his perfect game in the 9th last night. Just bringing this up cause after seeing that I checked his stats and he has a 2.80 ERA with a sub 1 WHIP in 21 starts while posting similar numbers in the 2nd half last season in a dozen or so starts.
This was one of the "no name bullpen arms" that the Rays got in the Adames trade and now in the past calendar year he's been one of the best starters in the AL.
Yes Adames has been great for Milwaukee and I'm sure they are more than happy with the trade but it continues to baffle me how they can acquire and turn trash into treasure.
After all of us are dead and gone future fans and posters will still be debating his worth due the empty babip fueled hot stretches he provides here and there.
Yep, Every offseason since we got him he reportedly has added 15lbs of muscle so by my calculations he should be looking like The Incredible Hulk by now.
Another post about Carpenter and his family, seeing a family of a 19th round pick and non top 30 organizational prospect's reaction to a player's first hit brings me more joy than seeing a first rounder or hyped prospect. I know for a parent it means the same for them and both players and their families probably worked just as hard throughout their life but unlike a top prospect who barring a freak injury is almost certainly going to get enough chances to get that hit somebody like Carpenter may not.
For all him or his family knows this could be his one shot and he may never get a call up again so seeing that hit and knowing that at the very least your son/brother/husband got a hit in a major league game has to be emotional.
Considering where Carpenter was at this time last year I bet there was no way him or his family thought he'd get a Major League hit within the next 12 months.
It's only 1 preseason game and 1 preseason game against the terrible Seahawks at that but George Pickens looked like a total beast, before trading up for Jameson he's who I really wanted with either the Rams pick or our 2nd rounder. Hopefully Jameson will make us forget all about it cause I think George is going to be special.
From a run prevention standpoint it may not be that impressive but from a pure pitching standpoint I think this is the best I seen Manning look since he has been back. Stuff has looked really good.
That was Manning at his best against Abreu. Swinging miss on a 94 FB up and in for strike one, swinging strike on a slider down and away for strike 2 and swinging strike 3 on 96 up and away.
Regarding that 1st inning stat I mentioned a couple posts ago, so the Tigers have scored 8 runs all season on the road in the 1st, meanwhile the Dodgers just scored 5 in the first in their game tonight in KC.
Just when you thought you heard every putrid offensive stat imaginable for the Tigers Shep comes out with another banger. The Tigers have only scored 8 runs ALL SEASON in the 1st inning of road games. They've played 56 road games so that's 8 runs in 56 innings. The league average MLB team this year averages .5 runs per 1st inning so an average team would have scored roughly 28 runs in those same innings so were like 70% worse than AVERAGE in the 1st inning.
I saw in a tweet earlier that we are 7-31 since we won those 6 straight games in early July. I knew it was bad 5 or 6 weeks but I didn't realize it has been THAT bad.
I really don't know enough to say one way or another but you do have to keep in mind with coaches from the college ranks that their job there is to maximize the performance of the pitcher in the 2-3 years he is there and not necessarily thinking about his long term health since it's not on their watch if a guy gets hurt after he leaves the program. Not saying that is what is happening here but it's something to think about.
