Petry is definitely my favorite of all the Tigers analysts, provides good pitching insight without the annoyance of being Jack Morris. -
So far atleast nobody in the top 10 picks of the 2018 draft have amounted to much of anything. Bart has struggled mightily in his time in the majors, Bohm has been below par, Kelenic has been atrocious and even last year's ROY India is now at a negative WAR this season. Guys in the middle of the first like Grayson Rodriguez(top 5 prospect in baseball right now), Logan Gilbert and Nolan Gorman all appear to be guys I'd rather have than Mize but as far as guys we realistically would've drafted I'm not sure we're any worse off with Mize than those guys.

I'm cool with the throwbacks, especially if it is something they only wear like 10 times a year or something but it is weird to see all the love they are getting considering how disliked they were among many of the fans at the time. I wonder if they will go all out and have a matching floor for the jerseys too like most other teams do or if Gores will just be cheap and have them play on the red white and blue court despite wearing teal?

I'm definitely not writing off Tork at all but I definitely have tempered my expectations and hopes. Based off of the publicity he got his last year in college and the hype he had I thought he had a legit chance to be a top 5 hitter in baseball in terms of just hitting the ball now I don't have those same expectations. I still think he can be a plus hitter, maybe even an All Star Level guy if everything goes right but being a true silver slugger type guy I'm starting to doubt. But admittedly this could all just be recency bias and putting too much emphasis on how he looks at the moment. If he crushes the ball the rest of the year my views may suddenly change.
-
Im worried about Tork,if this was another organization maybe I wouldn't be but our track record of developing guys or fixing any problems isn't good to say the least so when I see a player struggle like he has it is concerning. It seems like he is struggling most with his bat speed which was one of the things that nobody was concerned about pre draft or early in the minors so I find it unlikely he would suddenly lose that speed in his early 20s. Im hoping that it comes out he has been playing with an injury all season and that is the cause of his problem. Of course I don't want anything major that could keep him out next year and beyond but something that can be fixed in the offseason and he will be ready to go by Spring Training.

Baseball Gods scouring the Tigers system "hmm this guy looks like he is having a good season time for him to get hurt and go on the IL"

I don't want to get sidetracked but I do find it a little comical that playing for a contender or not is the difference between you getting vaxed or not.

Heyman says that he is hearing that Benintendi told the Yankees he will indeed get the vaccine.
-
Benintendi to the Yankees for 3 minor leaguers who's names I haven't seen mentioned yet. Benintendi is unvaxed so with Toronto playing in their division and possibly being a team they see in the playoffs that could come into play if the Yankees can't convince him to get vaccinated.

Manning's night is done. Finished with 5 2/3 shutout innings on 85 pitches with 6Ks and 2BBs, both of which came in 6th inning. Not sure what the stuff looked like or if there were alot of "loud outs" but at first glance it appears to be a positive outing.
-
Manning's cruising tonight thus far with 5 shut out innings with 6Ks and no walks, only taken 71 pitches so far too.

I disagree, if we could get a quality prospect(s) then sure but if its just going to be a Travis Demeritte type or whatever like I suspect than I much prefer to keep him. Yeah we would save 10 million without him but we don't have any real in house replacements him anyway so it would just create another hole you have to spend money on. Perhaps I'm underestimating the market for him and we could indeed get back something of quality but my gut tells me that isn't the case. -
I would agree with this, he also has more of a pedigree reaching top 20ish prospect status where as I don't think Boyd was ever close to that so I definitely like his odds of being good more than I did Boyd at any point but I also would not be surprised if he just ends up being the guy he has been overall this season which is a high 3 ERA that has great stretches but bad stretches as well. That of course wouldn't be the worst result in the world but ideally he does surpass that.

Possibly but I believe the Tigers should keep him just cause I don't think they would get much in return anyway. I think there is a better chance Jeimer bounces back close to his 2020/2021 levels and helping the Tigers the next couple years than whatever C level prospect we get turning into anything. -

Coming in to today he has a 1.500 OPS the last 15 days and a .923 for the month of July. -

Skubal with 3 walks and only 2ks with a mere 4 swings and misses. Not good. -
Not that it would matter since this season is lost but this is why I hated them dragging their feet last year in regards to his injury. He went down in May, had all the signs of needing TJ but instead they chose to just rest him for almost 2 months before finally caving in and giving him the surgery. Perhaps it was Turnbull's decision since no player wants to go through TJ but when all the signs are there don't pussyfoot around, instead get it done ASAP so he can get back sooner. If we were in the midst of a playoff chase him getting back and getting 10 starts vs. none could be difference. And even if it wasn't it would be nice to have him potentially work out any kinks or command issues this year so next season he will be all ironed out and ready to go. K end of rant.

Gotcha,I didn't even think of that, lol I thought it was kinda random to just make a post about them losing a regular season series to the Jays. I just thought maybe you really hated them.
-
It sure would help the offense next year if Meadows can return to his pre 2021 self. That along with improvements from Greene and God forbid Tork and the offense may end up looking a little better.
-
So is "lose for Crews" this years catch phrase?
-
Despite us beating them in 68 and losing to them in 06 I never really had an ill feelings towards the Cardinals, in fact I always respected them as an organization, I don't openly root for them or anything but I don't root against them either.
-
I really don't want to trade Skubal now, not only for the Al factor but because I just don't think his value right now is as high as it could be by this time next year or even the offseason if he pitches well the rest of the year. Of course he could go all Matt Boyd or get hurt in a month which would kill his value and in turn make people question why we didn't trade him but I think that's a risk Im willing to take cause right now I just think we'd get a so so return based on the small sample of success in the majors he has had thus far. Had a few great and even dominant stretches the past season and a half but they've been mixed with terrible stretches too.

I'm too lazy to make my full predictions right now but I will say that I'm going out on a somewhat limb and picking the Broncos to win the whole thing. I think Russell WIlson is going to be a game changer for them much like Stafford was for the Rams this past year. The Broncos had a winning record and positive differential despite having sub par QB play year, swapping that sub par play with one of the great QBs of this generation is going to make a world of difference. As far as Wilson's old team the Seahawks, I think they are going to be the ones with the worst record. They play in a brutal division, don't have a ton of talent, no QB and most of all just seem like they are more than content getting the top pick this year. Kinda reminds me of the year the Colts just completely gave up after losing Manning with the sole intention of getting Luck.
