Week Two: Chicago Bears (0-1) @ Detroit Lions (0-1)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Last 10 home games the Lions are averaging over 36 points per game, in their last 16 games as a whole they've scored 40+ 7 times and 50+ 3 times. -
Carson Wentz always seems to find a way into getting starts, he's like the new Sam Bradford. Of course knowing the luck Minnesota has had with castoffs like Case Keenum, Sam Darnold and the aforementioned Bradford watch Wentz turn into his 2019 self.

Agreed, I don't know it's probably cause I'm superstitious about stuff like that but I just feel like you are tempting fate by faking injury. BTW was that in reference to something or did he just do it to make people worry? -
I just have to give a shout out to the Dallas kicker, that kick he hit to send in to OT was probably the most powerful NFL/college kick I've ever seen. Was halfway up the uprights from 64. Just an absolute missile.

Nice to see a Detroit lineman bat some balls down for a change. It "feels" like something we never have that other teams do. I think it was either Fairley or Shaun Rogers who was good at doing that, not sure if we've had anybody since. -

This will probably be one of the few games we play this year where we either aren't on Prime Time or getting CBS/Fox A announce team. -
This team is the epitome of the famous Michael Corleone Godfather III meme. Every time they start to look like they're dead and you start to lose hope in them they pull you back in with a big sweep or dominating couple games like the past 2 nights.

8th time this year Skubal has gone 7 innings and given up only 3 HITS or less. Also his 12th scoreless start of atleast 6 innings, no pitcher has thrown more since the mound was lowered in 1969.

Small sample but Perez has been really good the past month, 4 runs total given up his last 4 outings and just 1 his last 3.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
RandyMarsh replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
Not sure if it was mentioned elsewhere but just saw that Cobb is officially out for the year to have hip surgery. Considering his age he may not pitch in the majors again. -

My theory is that in this day and age pass rush from the edges is highly overrated unless they are so good they can get home almost immediately. Reason being is that with the exception of a few QBs you don't have statues back there or guys that are incapable of throwing on the run or making plays on the run. Most Guys today have no problem rolling out when they feel pressure or tucking it and running in any of the lanes left in between the tackles. What really disrupts them is pressure from the inside. You look at the Lions last year and it wasn't until McNeil got hurt and Reader slowed down where you saw a noticeable dip in the defense. I think edges that can set the corner, handle the run and get home early are the ones that really make an impact and those are basically just the elite guys.

McGonigle is the 6th youngest player in the Eastern league yet he is 2nd(1st is a non prospect 28yr old) in K/BB ratio, also has the 11th best RC+ among players with 100 PAs, the 10 players ahead of him all have BABIP 100 points higher and are all atleast 2 yrs older.

When you give up future capital like the Pack did you should get an immediate gain since what you gave up hasn't impacted you yet. The Packers essentially got their 26 and 27 first round pick already while nobody else has obviously gotten theirs. So logically they should look like the winners the first couple years but you really won't really know how the trade worked out for a few seasons.

I don't want to jinx it but I think that win may be the nail in the coffin for KC. We have the tiebreaker so they are gonna have to pick up 10 in 24 games, would be hard enough on it's own but considering they don't have anymore against us it makes it just about impossible.

They only beat the A's in the playoffs.

Agree

Paddack has struck out only 9 of his last 101 batters including only 1 out the last 40. How is that even possible in this day and age?

Alot of Tigers fans in Sacramento tonight.

Corbin Carroll was drafted out of High School, had 660 Minor League at bats before getting called up late in 22, excelled to finish the year then went on to finish in the top 5 in MVP and win ROY the following year. Another example is Bobby Witt had 700 PAs before being called up and he's been one of the best players in baseball since. Some guys need more time while others don't.
-
I don't think there is a hard and fast rule on how many abs a minor leaguer needs or teams look for before calling them up, to me if they look ready and they feel they can help the big leagues team than they should and probably will call them up. In regards to guys like McGonigle and Clark what is impressive about their numbers is not just the raw slash numbers but the advanced statcast numbers and plate discipline numbers. These aren't huge OPS numbers with terrible peripherals like whiff rates, low walk numbers etc., they are getting these numbers while showing a great understanding of the strike zone according to the advanced metrics. To me that usually means they aren't far away so I would be shocked that barring a major setback that they aren't on the Tigers by the summer of 2026.

Clark is back in the lineup tonight!

Yeah countless examples in my fandom where the team I wanted we lost to and the team I didn't we ended up beating. I didn't want the Lakers in 04 and the Pistons won, I wanted the Spurs over the SUns in 05 and we ended up losing. Didn't want the Yankees in 06 and we beat them liked our chances with the Cardinals and we lost. Wanted TCU and Michigan lost, I didn't particularly like playing Alabama and Michigan won. Just a few of many examples.

The 03 Tigers were -337, not sure if that Is the record or not but if it is the Rockies are well on their way to breaking it.
