Either the Tigers just traded Flaherty or he is injured. If it's the latter hope it's just a cramp or something.

#10 is going up on the brick wall !
RandyMarsh replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
Yeah I remember that, I wasn't a member here yet was still on the ESPN Tiger board and most of the posters there weren't really into analytics or things like that. They had the mentality of "we scored 900 runs last year so Cabrera and Renteria(All Star the previous year) would be worth atleast another 100." I wasn't super into metrics at that time but even then I knew that was a lazy way to look at things and tried to warn them that it doesn't work that way. You can't just assume that guys like Magglio, Polanco and Granderson were going to repeat their unbelievable 2007s and that more than likely any gain Cabrera would bring would probably be offset by their regression. -
I remember Dane Dunning debuted the same night as Mize and dominated us. Feels like he has every game in fact, hopefully that changes tonight.

I do think the 04 team is underrated by national pundits due to the lack of star power and the modest overall record but if you look at their record after getting Rasheed and they were a much more dominant team. They lost 2 1 point games when he first arrived but then went 21-3 to finish the season which pro rates out to almost 70 wins over 82 games. They then beat a 47 win, 62 win and the star studded Lakers in the playoffs. Of course with that said no way they were beating let alone destroying that Warriors team. Even IF our defense held them relatively in check we just didn't have the firepower to keep up with them.

20234-24 14-68. Now what? (The 2024 Offseason thread)

I remember hearing about it years ago but I don't know if it ever got confirmed but I remember hearing that Millen didn't want to draft Joey Harrington in 2002 but ownership overruled him cause they wanted him for the opening of Ford Field. Assuming it is true I wonder how things may have played out if Millen were to have taken somebody else. Reason I wonder that is not due to the player he may have gotten but more so the fact that we wouldn't have been committed to Harrington for those first few years. The 03 draft had Carson Palmer and the 04 draft had Eli, Phillip Rivers and Roethlisberger. We finished with the number 2 pick in that Palmer draft and pick 6 in the 04 draft so IF everything played out exactly the same only Ben would we have had a chance at but you never know, maybe things would have played out differently or we may have tanked even harder to insure the young QB to build around. Instead we kept hoping Joey would be that guy until it was too late. -

MLBtraderumors says that we are indeed sending down Tork to make room for Malloy. As I said I'm skeptical that the move will do anything for Tork but the fact is when we are trying to win games we just can't afford his empty bat in the lineup so even if it doesn't help him from a team perspective it is the right call.
-
I'm of the belief that sending experienced guys to the minors to "figure things out" rarely ever works out in the end but considering we're semi competitive right now(4 back of the WC) it is better for the team to have Tork hack it out in the minors than see him go 0-4 every game up here.

Evan Petzold says the Tigers are calling up Malloy, no word on any corresponding moves.

Not hyperbole to suggest that Weaver may be the worst GM in Detroit sports history, Millen is the obvious answer but Millen atleast had some 6-10 and 7-9 seasons in him. Weaver was nothing but dead last every year. -
This is game 7 against the Suns from a couple years ago all over again.

Yeah Bucknor never got the heat that Hernandez did but atleast in games I watched and followed he was equally as bad.

I blame Hinch.

Watching the ball fly into the LF stands and hearing Dan say "Walk off 3 run home run!" immediately brought back memories to Magglio for me! -
I haven't listened to him this year but in years past I always liked Petry, I thought he was the best out of the bunch(not saying much) but judging by your guys responses I guess he has gotten alot worse.

Keith with an .840 OPS in May coming into this one so he's starting to find his stride, unfortunately it coincides with Greene falling off a cliff offensively.

To me Burrow is overrated and shouldn't be put in the elite tier like people always seem to do. He had a great run a few years ago but otherwise if you look at his raw stats and most metrics they are negliglibly better than Goff's at best. Not to mention his injury history and the fact the Bengals offense didn't drop off much with Browning and I just don't think he is as great as people make him out to be.

Kiley Mcdaniel of ESPN put out his updated top 50 today and he has Jobe 7th, Clark 21st and McGonogle 50th. Jung is in the "just missed" category along with about 20 other guys.

Yeah I agree, it was only 1 season but it was so good that Id throw Stroud in there as well. Id certainly take him over Lawrence at this point.

To me the best case outcome for Manning is to have a poor man's Porcello like career aside from his fluke Cy Young season. Basically a back of the rotation starter who can give you strong outings here and there but will always be heavily BABIP dependent on that. The hope of him ever being a top of the rotation starter or number 2 went away awhile ago for me.

Its weird to be a fan of a team that have executives and coaches that other teams want.

With the Nuggets losing this guarantees the 7th consecutive season without a repeat champion. I believe this is the longest such streak since the 70s.

Another crazy Skubal stat, in his 24 starts since his return only 4 times has he given up more hits than innings pitched and only once has he done that in his last 15 starts. Just insane, most pitchers would be glad to only have that stat for runs let alone hits.
