I think odds are very slim either plays, but more likely Sweeney gets on the field as a defensive replacement than we use 3 RH pinch hitters in any game this series.

Odds are Malloy wouldn't have played especially since he can't play any position. Ibanez and Jones are ahead of him against LH pitching and I think the Mariners have a total of 1 LH.

Very few lefthanders for Seattle compared to Cleveland, not a need for 3rd RH bat off the bench especially one who doesn’t have a position. Sweeney at least gives defensive substitution options

But it’s as likely he comes out off doing something he hasn’t at all this season and you waste a Skubal start. It would also put him on 3 days rest for game 4. if he pitches game 2 on 4 days, he can get game 5 on 4 days also. (Or be ready for game 1 of the ALCS when we win in 4)

He can still get 2 starts if he starts game 2 on 4 days rest. He’s had more starts with5 plus days rest than he has 4 this season. His last start I believe was the most pitches he’s thrown this season. Don’t take a chance and start him on 3 days rest out of his norm and potentially blow his first start. If we are talking an elimination game, definitely consider it. But not the difference between game 1 and 2 of a 5 game series.

No, it was evident Suarez was trending that way and his history went that way. The start of the year was more the outlier - he had a hot start in 2024 also and fell off the cliff in the 2nd half. And we were looking to add more contact if anything and he definitely didn't fit that mold.

Exactly. And Suarez was already trending that way in the last month before the deadline. He was much more likely to be what he ended up being than how he started the year. Keith had a higher OPS and more contact than him while playing as good of defense.

Agree completely. Long term, a top corner is low on the needs IMO - maybe only above starting QB, RB (for 2 years at least) top 3 WR, and LB- maybe safety depending on if they resign Branch. No reason at all to trade draft capital for a top corner. Reed will be back this year. Arnold is better than the refs are giving him credit for, Robertson is starting quality. They have depth to weather this in the short term. Hopefully, Rakestraw will be healthy next year and they will likely add more depth in the offseason/draft. Definitely a waste IMO to trade 2 top picks for a CB, especially a high priced (or soon to be high priced) one with the other contracts we have/need to do.

Completely disagree about the need to trade him if he isn’t going to sign. (I don’t believe he is) For one, history shows the trade haul for 1 year of an Ace, no matter how dominant, isn’t as massive as many seem to believe it will be. And no matter what happened at the end, we have shown we should be competing next year again. The odds of that happening decrease significantly without Skubal as like you said, our other rotation options aren’t much different than now and Jobe won’t be fully recovered at least at the start of the season if at all in 2026. People that complain about our trade deadline, but think we need to move Skubal if he won’t sign baffle me. He is one of the few true pitchers who can basically win a series. A full season of him on a team with aspirations of advancing in the playoffs and a comp pick are worth a considerable amount, and IMO more than the likely packages offered.

And while only throwing 5 pitches on Tuesday, Sabrowski pitched both Tuesday and Wednesday and threw 18 pitches today. So he isn't likely available for much if any tomorrow.

And while I know they had to win this game, you would think a 5 run lead in the 9th would have been reason to make sure you could have Smith available tomorrow - unless of course he wasn't going to be anyway after warming up. At least Vest and Finnegan should be available for us. Only one questionable is Holton, but even he is likely to be available.
