  1. "Queers for Palestine" shut down the Manhattan Bridge last night. If you want more proof of the intellectual level at play among the pro palestinians in this country I can't find a better example. This is Chappelle's "only black man in the KKK" level stuff.
  2. agree.... as a fan I have payroll fatigue. I'm tired of seeing guys out there just because we are paying them and they are under a big contract. I don't want to see any Justin Uptons or Jordan Zimmermans for awhile. Fans just think players are items on a shelf in a store and you pick up what you want and that's all there is to it. Or you can trade a couple of bad players for a good player because 3+3+3 = 9.
  3. given the local media landscape we have one guy who wants to be a shock jock podcaster so that has to be a draw.... then there's twitter.
  4. And Ohtani with his endorsement income is unique in being able to make this decision. This will not become a normal thing beyond what it was a week ago. It’s a difference of degree and nobody can touch his marketing impact personally. He’s getting his money now from endorsements. He has that luxury. Everyone else doesn’t.
  5. You are the one confusing things. The NHL has and had a hard cap. MLB doesn’t. The CBT is intended as a deterrent but it’s not a rule. There are penalties to be paid. The CBA specifically says there’s no limit on deferrals. this deal doesn’t really alter the landscape in my opinion. If you were told he signed a $450M deal for 10 years is that crazy? No.
  6. The purpose isn’t what you think it is.
  7. Wrong. Why would they be expected to pay on $70M when that’s not the actual value? The “luxury tax” was supposed to do what the text of the rules allows the clubs to do. Ohtani wasn’t going to end up in Pittsburgh or Colorado or Baltimore. The luxury tax or CBT is not a salary cap. It’s within the rules and didn’t severely alter the pay landscape.
  8. It’s no different than not paying taxes today on your investments you will get in 20 years isn’t it? Why should they be taxed on money not being paid? Massive is a subjective term.
  9. They should change the name from Plays to Events. I see your point. Probably why nothing excites me more than a well executed relay throw from the outfield to 3B or the plate. Even if my team is on the losing side. I will never fault a team for going for it if it takes 2 or 3 great things to occur to get the runner out. The play by the OF go get the ball. His throw. The infielders catch and subsequent throw. The next fielders catch and tag. All of those things are failure points and good execution is like a ballet. It’s beautiful.
  10. Good one. For some reason that show never got on my radar. I think it was simply that I had stuff going on Sunday nights. I’ve seen the show and know it’s funny. It’s made me laugh obviously. But I just never consistently watched. Same with The Office and Parks and Rec.
  11. The league should be fine with it. I'm a little surprised the MLBPA would be ok but I haven't and can't do the Present vs Future value math right now but I would bet the present value, and the value over the next 10 years compared to the following 10 years means the dollar amount is not insane. I messed around with it a few days ago and had figures like $37M = $70M in 10 years. But on the surface getting $20M for the next 10 years, then $680M in years 11-20..... not outrageous to me. The question to ask is what is the value in years 1-10 compare to the corresponding years 11-20? I.E. Value of a year's in 2028 vs 2038. In the year 2038 he'll get paid $68M. We've been saying this since 1975, 'In year X, $YM will seem like peanuts".
  12. I heard that story and it wasn't the DNC, he claims it was a Jewish person or group, but they denied it. The actor who is running for the US Senate seat also made the same claim. Nobody's been able to prove it though.
  13. and as an adult when I finally got around to watching Slap Shot from beginning to end... Ralphie's mom. THAT was a little confusing. It'd be like seeing Mrs. Cleaver. But yeah your 3 are the Mt. Rushmore.
  14. So she was 31 or 32 when the first one filmed.... no wonder I thought she was hot. The shower scene didn't hurt either.
  15. I saw a report that it was estimated the Angels brought in $20M a year extra by having Ohtani. The old timers going ape **** over this deal miss the point. He's not being paid that for what he will do on the field. He's a unique case. The Dodgers will now have millions of eyeballs on their games from Japan. Eyeballs = Dollars.
  16. I didn't get into Daisy Duke but definitely Victoria Principal.
  17. I was born in 1973 so I know what two things I was attracted to and who they were attached to.
  18. Someone finally showed him a map.
  19. If the balance of congress depended on my single vote for her since I’m in her district…. Sorry Dems. Give me a better choice.
  20. I don’t think it was nefarious intent. She’s just too stupid to know it’s not how you do it.
  21. I think the lawsuit talk is a joke about the fella that suggested the Tigers sue Rodriguez for… something.
  22. Dog caught the tail once again.
  23. The second paragraph is totally unnecessary and simply makes you an intolerable asshole. Knock it off.
