Start a network Illitch, Tigers and Red Wings, negotiate with Gores for Pistons...NFL will never be in that bag, but should be able to make money off that network with 3 majors locally.

Take it a step further and just buy the Pistons from Gores.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse....

Diamond has a naming rights deal with FanDuel. Bally Sports Det is now FanDuel.

Ay Caramba!  - - de mierda!

Well, we can still hope Diamond never gets out of Bankruptcy.

They already had that stupid FanDual parlay for every game, which seemed like never won. If anyone was actually betting those, they need to have their head examined.

Oh my god, no.

Please, god, let there be a non-gambling-oriented stream made available.

I mean Bally is a Casino, so this is basically the same thing.

I was always surprised that Bally didn't lean into the whole gambling integration thing more than they did.

Freep is reporting it now:

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/2024/10/18/bally-sports-detroit-fanduel-sports-network-diamond-sports-group/75735618007/

Per the article:

"That [i.e., Diamond Sports' statements to the bankruptcy court] meant the Tigers either have to renegotiate their deal or find a new TV home for their games in 2025. Since the news came out, there hasn't been any word about what the Tigers intend to do, and whether they'll appear on FanDuel Sports Network is not clear at this time."

I don't know everything involved, but I've long thought it would make sense for Olympia to have its own RSN.  Tigers, Wings, hell, whatever else.  Put DCFC on there, I would watch it.  I suppose there has to be a good reason that they haven't done it.

There has to be a lot of contention about the value of the Tigers' rights. Diamond probably complaining the current rights fee is a money loser and team  countering that going forward a winning team in Det will be a gold mine....

If I'm reading this right, maybe FanDuel isn't a completely done deal for the Tigers after all. I might hold out hope, but I'd ... ahem ... bet that the Tigers go into that fold before next season.

Marlins Have New Broadcast Deal with Diamond Sports Group for 2025

The Miami Marlins have reached a new deal to have Diamond Sports Group broadcast their games in the 2025 season, as revealed in bankruptcy court on Friday. No specifics about the Marlins’ deal have been reported as of yet. However, Diamond did announce that it has also come to a new naming-rights deal for its sports networks, so the former Bally Sports networks will all now be FanDuel Sports networks. At the moment, Miami and Atlanta are the only MLB teams with agreements with Diamond for 2025, and Diamond still has to provide the court with a viable business plan to avoid liquidation. The hearing to determine that viability will begin on November 14, per Evan Drellich of The Athletic.

Hello, gambling odds on every pitch and winning odds in the score box.

If that's the direction they go, that might be the end for me as a baseball fan.  I really hope there is some outlet either on radio or online where we don't have that nonsense.

Have you watched any of the UFL games?

The broadcasts can be overwhelmingly bad at times for a number of reasons, but one is certainly that they are updating betting odds throughout the game. It isn't so bad that I find it the most annoying thing, but that may simply be because other aspects of the broadcasts are worse.

Every time I see betting odds on the screen of a sports broadcast, or broadcasters doing drop-ins for gambling sponsors, or commercials for gambling during the breaks of sports broadcasts, a little more of my soul leaves my body.

It is, unfortunately, where the money is right now. And even more unfortunately it is almost-kinda-sorta-maybe related to the game itself, so it's entirely out of place for broadcasters to talk about it and for production to show the odds on screen. That's the really insidious component.

I think back to the 90s when it seemed like every other commercial during a sports broadcast was a beer ad. It was annoying, but that's where the money was at the time. But... can you imagine if during the broadcast they'd cut to a beer expert who'd talk about what beers were available and which had the best taste? Or the announcers referencing the beers that they were drinking? Or beer prices being shown on screen? Especially in the 90s there would have been a revolt. They would have pointed out the obvious ads and how it ruined the broadcast.

Now? Well first we've been conditioned with more and more ads showing on screen during the broadcast. Then, as I mentioned, you can almost masquerade the betting talk as something your doing because the viewers want it vs. it just being ads.

Trevor Thompson also let go

And keeping Kane over York for Tigers postgames is some kine of weird choice. Last night Kane was 1) full of verbal ticks 2) more 'ya knows' than two full Dan Petry games 3) giggling like a 4 yr old. 4) total inability to form a complete sentence. IOW about as unprofesssional as any rookie who ever sat in front of a mic. He seems to do a nice job with Piston's PBP, but he is otherwise pretty damn terrible. Who are the programmers who think that's good production?

uh, perhaps they don't have the sound on when they evaluate.  I don't think there is a zero percent chance of that being how they evaluate.

woah, what a counter-factual!  It almost deserves a "Fatherland" like tv series this vision of 1970s baseball broadcasting centered on the price of beer.  :--)

Who are the programmers accountants who think that's good production Kane is cheaper to retain than York?

Just a guess obviously, but I'm thinking this is a more accurate way of asking the question.

I’ve long wondered whether Johnny Kane is taking advantage of Michigan’s super-affordable cannabis before going on air.
