Rasmussen's ceiling to me appears to be a shutdown type third line center at best ...

I was going to say something to that...

two things I would  want to see in a big guy short of being a bruiser (and the game has changed - and guys don't want to get concussed anymore.....) would be good use of his reach - and Rasmussen can be an effect forechecker on occasion, but the second is being able to use your size to protect the puck and be a strong possession player. I don't think he shows very much there.

But G2 said a lot of what I wanted to say.

I would agree with sloth that Ras has the looks of a 3rd-line defensive center. But... I think he can also be a playmaker as well. Yeah, he's not as good around the net as he should be, and isn't physical, or doesn't know how to use his physical advantage...

But to G2's point... he should at least be strong on the puck and a strong possession player... which we haven't seen that much of from him.

Sloth says Ras is still quite stiff even with skating improvements and I have to agree. At least from what I've seen. In order to make the jump from point A (defensive center) to point B (defensive center that can control the puck/ possession, and be a dangerous offensive playmaker)... He needs to get stronger/ better balance on his skates, not get knocked off the puck, and improve his puck control/ stick handling abilities. I see him get knocked off the puck too often, or the puck is taken away from him when he had "control" of it on his stick, despite his size and "improved skating".

I don't know if he can get there.

But I would like to think he can.

who is dan renouf?

Undrafted guy, been in the AHL for about four years.  I imagine he's going to be the Wings' Lashoff type guy the next season or so where he gets the call when they need a roster filler defenseman who can sit in the press box if need be.

Mildly surprised Witter wasn't called up though I guess Smith is there for toughness if need be?

The Wings have played more games than most, so simply looking at points alone is misleading. But even on points per game basis, the Wings are hanging in there. The Habs and Isles being so far back changes the dynamic of the playoff conversation a bit. If 9 teams made it, I think the Wins would have a decent shot. But assuming Boston and Pittsburgh will grab at least a wildcard spot over 82 games, who could the Wings possibly knock out? The Rangers?

The Points %-age (winning %-age, actually) is a good indicator of where we need to get to to make the playoffs.

The Rangers are getting points at a 74% win rate.

We're at a 56% win rate. That would be hard to catch up to. I don't see it happening. Certainly not this year.

Boston and the Blue Jackets are at 58% and 60% respectively.

That's our starting point.

To get into the playoffs this year... we have to beat Boston's 58%.

Convert the points per game numbers for each team and you're going to run into basically the same thing...

My question for the Wings is how do they get better than they are right now this season? Are there players ready to come from GR and make an impact? Berggren? Anyone else on the horizon before next season? And who on the current roster might be a better player in a month or two? Zadina (maybe) , Veleno (seems doubtful), Hronek *should* be able to raise his game from where it is right now. Even more from Seider and Raymond? So we have banked two big improvements with two rookies, and we have Larkin and Bertuzzi back to anchoring ta serious #1 line with Raymond. I see less unrealized upside until next season when some guys like Edvinsson get to the end of the pipeline.

Another rookie-of-the-month award for the Red Wings. This time to Raymond.

DETROIT -- The sample size is large enough now. The future of the Detroit Red Wings is right in front of our eyes.

Red Wings standout rookie winger Lucas Raymond was named the NHL's "Rookie of the Month" for November on Wednesday, repeating the same honor his teammate, Moritz Seider, earned in October's opening month of the season.

Raymond and Seider became the first duo to capture back-to-back NHL Rookie of the Month plaudits since Toronto's Auston Matthews and Mitchell Marner in December 2016 and January 2017. Raymond edged Detroit goalie Alex Nedeljkovic for November's honor one month after Seider narrowly earned the award over Raymond in October.

Raymond tallied five goals, seven assists and 12 points in 14 games played in November. He tallied points in nine games, including three separate three-game point streaks, and earned an average of 17:34 in ice time throughout the month.

After a slow start Berggren leads GR in goals and has 12 points in 17 games, I think he didn't have a point in the first handful of games too so he's been on a nice streak lately.  I think he could add some nice skill/playmaking to their second power play unit which is exciting.  Vrana can add some goal scoring punch too.
