Who knows, maybe the Tigers make him a decent offer and he decides playing for a good team in a mid market is more fun than NYC/LA. OK - not likely, but you never know. Could also depend on what Keith looks like in another couple of months. Quote

It’s been nice to have signed a hitter and actually have them exceed expectations for the first time in many years Quote

I had actually forgotten about him. When I think about players coming back from injuries, he's not one of the ones that comes to mind. Quote

papalawrence Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Is Larry Herndon still available to catch the final out? Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted May 14 Posted May 14 This season has been amazing, phenomenal, incredible so far. I don't want to be THAT guy, but I will be for a moment. How good would we be if we had drafted Wyatt Langford and had him on this team, in this moment? Who would be the guy riding the bench or off the team because of Langford? Quote

Who would be the guy riding the bench or off the team because of Langford? well, Langford is 4 WAR LF and we have a 5 WAR LF, so he has to go to RF, which displaces Carpenter and/or Vierling (~3 WAR). So maybe you trade a player, but corner OF is not where the Tigers have much weakness that Langford would have been a big marginal upgrade. OTOH, Max Clark is three yrs younger and should a big piece of the pipeline as we start losing current players to cost/FA. Assuming Max turns into a good pro. If you are in "all in" win once ASAP you definitely take Langford. If you don't want to be the Orioles and have your window close before you ever got through it, maybe you take Clark. Tenacious D Posted May 14 Posted May 14 As stated, Langford would need to play ahead of Greene and Carpenter. His toolset is more accessible via free agency. Clark, if he reaches his potential, will be a true #1-2 hitter, with high OBP and solid power, which we’ve lacked at the top of our lineup. And if saving on drafting him allowed us to draft and sign McGonigle, even better. No regrets. Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 I was hoping that for the Toronto series I could watch the Toronto TV feed and listen to Dan on the radio, but you can only listen to the specific radio feed for the TV feed you’re watching on MLB.tv. Watching the Blue Jays feed it was so nice not being subjected to all the idiot gambling BS. 1 Quote
1776 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I wish Jason Benetti would win the lottery and would never have to work again, especially in the Tigers broadcast booth. It has become a labor of love to get through the games recently with his constant talking, talking, talking…trying to be funny, trying to be a trivia guy, trying to be a pun master…anything to keep talking. If he were paid by the word he’d be set for life. Dirks isn’t much better. Former jocks are rarely worth the gab they produce. I used to like him when he was on radio to begin with. Why is it that Dirks has to tell you all about the plays that you just witnessed with your own eyes! Every now and then he’ll offer up a decent piece of information or something of interest, but not very often. When Dirks and Benetti hit high gear with their jabber, I can honestly say, I miss Rod and Mario. I’ve enjoyed the few games Dan Dickerson have done together on TV. He and “Peaches” are a good combo. end of Boomer rant… Quote

IdahoBert Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 I like Jason and Dirks together and I’m 73 years old. They’re trying to appeal to a younger audience which I get. I don’t know if Jason was raised by old people - come to think of it I guess he’d have to be - but he refers to music and cultural stuff that I’m familiar with and that surprises me at times. I’ll generally listen to Dan on the radio and watch the TV and that’s because I like Dan so much. I like Dan and Dirks together a whole lot. I like Dan with Bobby too. Quote

I can, but in the past, the two have been out of sync to too great of a degree for it to not be a distraction. I’ll probably just have to live with all the betting stuff that “legitimate businessmen” want to entice me with. Quote
CMU97 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I have never heard Jason on a TV broadcast. Only listened to him once or twice on the radio during spring training, so I cannot comment on him much. But from what I have heard, I like. I loved Andy on the radio, and when he recently did a series ( I think Texas) on the radio, that was great. Dan and Andy are tremendously good together on the radio. I do have to say that Bobby Scales has gotten much, much better in the booth. He has found his wheels and fits very nicely with Dan now. Dan Petry is OK on the radio, not great and not bad. Alix Avila filled in a few times last year and he was also great. Carlos Pena was also strong this spring. I think the Tigers on the radio side are one of the better teams in baseball, and I do listen to a lot of other teams. Of course, that has a lot to do with Dan, who makes everyone better with the exception of Craig Monroe. No one could make him be decent behind the mic, I'm afraid. He was just terrible. As far as the 3rd person on radio, I enjoyed Daneilla last year. Good broadcaster, didn't get in the way, and knew the game. 1 Quote
