I don't necessarily think it's pointless, since it is a good indicator of how well you can develop players on the way up, but I owuld agree its importance in fielding a winner during a multi-year window is overblown at least somewhat. Agree. I like both "How many guys have you drafted that made your team" and "how many guys did you bring to the majors from the minors". I think both of those things measure important aspects of a franchise's capability to sustain itself on a reasonable budget. Quote
romad1 Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 I was not tracking that Toledo was also "good" now. I thought we had good teams in the minors below them but dang...8 wins in a row and a record that is just a hair off the pace of the division lead is unexpected. Quote

But if you cash in your draft picks for major league production, does that mean you don't draft well? I will use Maybin and Miller as an example. Quote
RatkoVarda Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 they can roll out a line up with everyone having some ML experience - Kreidler, Nido, Margot, Jones, Baddoo, Madris, Workman, Hicklen and Serven - that's a lot of AAAA talent + Lee + rehabbing guys. would be nice if most of the 5 MiLB teams made playoffs, but WMI will look at a lot different when they move people to Erie. The way the CBA works, older players are financial death to any but the richest franchises (which we aren't) so I don't really see moving prospects on any scale as a viable long term option for the Tigers, unless you want another Dombrowski boom/bust cycle. Personally, I'm too old to be interested in another 10 years of bad baseball! You will start losing you own players fast enough that what you think is a surplus coming up today, won't be when the time comes. Edited June 2, 2025 by gehringer_2 Quote

Tenacious D Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 Is Jackson Strong legit? 7th rounder. Low A, but looks promising so far. Quote

You get a lot more mileage out of your ABs when a third of them don't end without you hitting the ball! Quote

Compare to the royals lets say who kept their guys and were bad after two. Quote

There will have to be some strategic trades of minor league depth (not our potential superstars/ top guys) for Major League depth guys that help us in September and October. Overall I agree with you. But we won't have room for everybody in Detroit either. So I am anticipating some smart trades coming soon... maybe even this year/ deadline. Quote
