Don't get too down if these N.L. teams give us a hard time. The Cards would probably be on top of the standings in the A.L. I hope to win 1 game.

Dingler has become a much better everyday option at catcher than Rogers.

true - Jake's bat has always made him a stretch to be a #1.

With all the prospects at catcher, deal Dingler for a shut down closer? Somebody who can miss bats?

TBD...he has a 1.5% walk rate and a .382 BABIP. I need to see if the hitting is sustainable when he makes less contact.

And he will be much better sharing time with Jake Rogers...plus we underestimate Jake's leadership and experience with the pitching staff.

I agree fully on your first point.  There are very few players who can succeed long-term when they have no ability to get on base via walks.

As for pitching staff management, that is kind of an unknown to fans, but I think it's an important consideration.  The pitching does not seem to have suffered under Dingler.  However, given how well the Tigers staff of chaos did last year and given how important Rogers apparently was to their success, I can see where they might weight his defense heavily in any platoon.  I am confident that Hinch will get it right.

I haven't paid as much attention recently, but in games after Jake first went down they were signaling pitch calls in to Dillon from the dugout. This is something that pitchCom actually makes easier.

This would be terrible.

Briceno? Maybe. Not Dingler, a guy with five more years of control and a 2-3 win guy right now.

I agree. Dingler should be our #1 catcher right now, IMO. Hopefully, Jake is only catching today for Skubal. But if the Tigers can get a shut down closer, it may take more than just a minor league prospect. I'm really not that impressed with our 2025 BP yet.

I question the reliability of defensive metrics this early in the season especially for catchers but FWIW according to savant Dingler is 10th in baseball in fielding run value at +5. That's not 10th among catchers but 10th among ALL fielders.

Don't even need metrics to know he has one of the strongest arms in the league, that's measureable independently - and he appears to be pretty accurate, so I'll believe he is Jake's equal in terms of the run game. It would take a little more convincing that he's already as good at Jake at blocking pitches. Jake is really quick. Framing can be a little tougher for bigger catchers because umps will tend to favor what they can see more easily. Bigger guys have to work harder at staying out of the way.

Catchers have gone the way of running backs. Teams have 1 and 1A.

Also. If you are counting on Nido to fill the gap, we don't know if he clears waivers this week.

Jake and Dingler could be a nice tandem for a few years - not perfectly ideal as neither hits left, but in team building never let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

“Now he’ll test his progress with the Mud Hens in a rehab assignment that can last up to 20 days (through June 8).” (Mlive)

Well, I don't see Nido clearing waivers but you never know. Some team may need a backup catcher. As for trading either Jake or Dingler? I don't see that happening either. Just speculating. IMO, the Tigers biggest need is an experienced closer. One who misses bats.

The Tigers have only scored eight runs in the last three games and the four runs last night were almost gimme’s. They need to start swinging the lumber with authority again.

If they don’t, I’ll probably just watch the last episode of Apple TVs The Studio during the game tonight. i’m tired of weak grounders and being BABIP’d to death.

No need to rush him at all. Glad he is getting close
