Maybe we should be talking about how the Mariners' offense is having more trouble scoring runs. Each team has won a close game and a not so close game. Each team has lost a close game and a not so close game. That’s interesting symmetry from a 10,000 foot level. Quote
casimir Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Not that I’m looking ahead, I’m certainly not. But Skubal would be on normal rest for games 3 and 7 of the ALCS. It’ll be best to take care of Toronto in 6 to ensure maximum Skubal in the World Series. Quote

The Tigers just need to score, which they would need to do in any game. The Skubal vs the Ms narrative is a nothing burger. EDIT: ditto to LordS Polanco says hold my beer. 🙂 I's plunk his ass. Quote

Tenacious D Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I felt Castillo was more effective against us. But he’ll be next up, if necessary. 1 Quote

ToledoBrian Posted October 10 Posted October 10 My hope is a Skubal 8 innings shutout, with a clean inning from Finnegan in the 9th, 4-0 Tigers, my expectation is 7 innings of 1 run ball from Skubal and nail biting the last 6 outs, 2-1 Tigers...... 1 Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I don’t know if they’re back to “firing on all cylinders.“ The way they were playing before they fell off the edge of the Earth seems like a fever dream now. But I think they’ll win this game one way or another. It just seems unlikely the Tigers could lose with Skubal on the mound a fourth time. 1 Quote

Oddly, the guy who could be starting to run hot is McKinstry, and he's pretty good when he's on a streak. I also like Torkelson going to RF on fastballs again. Now I just wish he would stop taking 1st pitch heaters down the middle. When the Tiger O was struggling there was a lot of mention that as team they took more 1st pitch strikes than anyone. They've been falling into that trap again. In game 3 even Pierzinski noticed how many 1st pitch strikes they were taking. Driving pitch counts is good, but you can go overboard killing your O doing it. The best way to drive pitch count is don't make outs. Edited October 10 by gehringer_2 Quote

However often it looks like there is no intention to do anything with that pitch and Tork is probably the biggest culprit of that. Then there is Greene and Carpenter who something are the opposite, they are swinging at the pitch one no matter what or where it is. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 You’d think they’d start Castillo as an opener and then go to Kirby to minimize the Carpenter ABs against him Quote
lordstanley Posted October 10 Posted October 10 There will be at least two Toronto-Detroit clashes this Thanksgiving weekend (Leafs at Wings Sat 7pm, Wings at Leafs Monday 4pm). That will increase to four if the Tigers come through tonight (Tigers at Jays Game 1 Sunday 8pm, Tigers at Jays Game 2 Monday 5pm). Quote
Hongbit Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I predict today will be forever known as the Parker Meadows game. Jack White will be sitting next to Geddy Lee on Sunday while Mike McCready watches them on TV. 3 Quote

papalawrence Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Game is fast approaching. Got me some butterflies percolating. Or maybe it was the chili omelet Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 10 Posted October 10 So it’s merely cloudy, but they’re shutting the roof. Does this make it easier for them to have the airflow blowing out from home to the fences when Skubal is pitching? Quote
