I can't wait to see my first case of lockjaw in person. I've only seen it on television. 🤨

I've never seen a person in an iron lung besides in pictures, documentaries, and the movie The Big Lebowski. It will be interesting to see how they decide to treat Polio now days. This is me assuming that it makes a comeback due to unvaccinated children and adults. With anti-vaxxer RFK Jr. now heading HHS and warning against the childhood vaccination schedule and vaccinating kids, and a vaccine skeptic President in Trump, it's hard to see how it doesn't make a comeback of some sort.

“I see somebody on a hiking trail carrying a little baby and I say to him, better not get them vaccinated.”- Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Tetanus vaccines last for 10 years. Hopefully, RFK will be long gone by then. I'm not even sure if he'll make it to Trumps swearing in. There's a long list of people who didn't last long with the orange cheeto.

Joke's on them—eggs ain't coming down in price.

I thought you typed “yolks on them”.

That would have been really egg-cellent.

They don’t seem like the egg white type, so yolk’s definitely on them.

Does everyone here understand that HIV is what causes AIDS? Yes? Great, I'm glad people on a message board understand it. It's too bad our anti-vaxx HHS Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. doesn't get it. He thinks gay people taking poppers cause AIDS.

My wife was at UVa about the same time as RFKJr. He was a nutcase even back then

Did you get it at 8 Degrees?  I saw you with Zach.  I worked with him for years.  He's a good dude.  Missed meeting up with him.

Very likely caught it there. Zach is indeed a good dude! Know him from being a regular there.

I had a very very extreme respiratory illness this week, the worst I can remember. Sore throat that made it tough to eat or sleep. Deep chest pains Tuesday I had to get checked for pneumonia. Intense fever and chills nightly. Could only sleep about 2 hours at a time. And unlike normal colds, this has lingered for almost a week, as I am finally somewhat normal on Day 6. Negative for COVID, Flu (vaxxed against both) and Strep. No signs of Mono.

Anyways, the thought I had over and over again this week is a CDC that wasn't sold for parts earlier this year probably would have named this and alerted us about this beast.

Sorry !  Could it have been RSV, Ed?
I have also read that this year’s flu strain is very severe (& longer in length), and that the flu shot this year is not as mitigating a factor as previous year’s shots were.
I’m hoping you recover fully soon.

yup - this years flu vaccine missed a variant that was developing in the Souther Hemisphere but which is apparently now the dominant strain everywhere.

I read recently that there has been quite a bit of progress in using mRNA methods for producing flu vaccine, which would allow the vaccines to be brought to the public on a much shorter time scale, i.e., before the virus has a chance to mutate as much - but of course the chances of this CDC/FDA fast tracking that tech is probably zero.

Yes, the dismantling of what was a superior and world renowned agency with respect to diseases, etc. will not serve our nation’s health and well-being very well, will it?

But at least billionaires will get richer, so there’s that. 👍

Do tests catch that variant? I tested negative three times.

Not sure how good some of the consumer tests out there are. My son and his kid came down with the same flu at the same time, their home tests that told them they had two different flus.- Possible, but very unlikely.

One of the three was a drive thru PCR...
