It was in. Canadian TV spent way too long during the broadcast and post-game saying "yeah, we know it's in, but the ref should never have called a good goal on the ice, and if they hadn't then the goal may have been disallowed after review for being inconclusive". Can't help but think though that if were the Wings threatening to score, the refs somehow would have "lost sight of the puck" and blown the whistle.

I want Babe Ruth...do they still have that guy ?

In a night of ups and downs, the thing I'll remember about this game more than anything was Bobby Scales' story about how he almost gave up baseball and why he didn't. Maybe he's told that story before, but I never heard it. It made me a little bit of a Bobby Scales' fan hearing him being as honest as he could and revealing a major point in his life. I've always looked at him as some generic guy with the Tigers' announcing crew that I wondered why the heck he was here. At least I remembered Rod Allen from the 1984 Tigers. It made him a lot more human at least to me. -

This with one or two other points has been pretty much my thoughts all season. I really tried to enjoy the regular season and initially hoped by the trade deadline something would change this dynamic so that this team could legitimately contend in the playoffs. When it didn't, I just tried to enjoy the regular season and just hope I was wrong. My nephew (who I go to the occasional game with or we exchange texts during games) tried to convince me otherwise, but it was always apparent after the trade deadline this team was going to find it mighty hard in every round of the playoffs. I would've hoped they could get out of the first round. At the very least I wanted them to get that first playoff series win, but even that is looking crazily hard. The Pistons win game #4 and it's basically best of three with two games in Detroit. Have to win game #4. -
You will find other entertaining means to "kill your back" if you are like me. I hope you can find some sort of compromise. The other day, I realized that I'm close to seeing my last "long-term generation" of players in athletics. At 57, if this year's rookie class plays 18 years, I'll be 75. That's pretty darn close. Every 8 to 10 years I kind of label a group sort of in its own generation of players. I mean, how long will I be able to do that? Not much longer. A little depressing, but it's the facts.

Thanks for the tips.

Best run blocking WR since Hines Ward?
-
I’m counting eight new names at DL.
-
They have been horrible defensively with pretty much the same defenders as last year. Hopefully things even out over the rest of the season.

I did and wish I had not. I don't have the stomach for those things.

He’s a charmer

It seems like outfielders don't bring back a lot in trades unless they are superstars, so I suspect they'll hold onto Greene and Carpenter into 2028. Same with Torkelson. All three can help them win over the next couple of years. I dom't expect any of them to last beyond that. Hopefully, they will have enough young players in place at the end of 2028 so that they have a strong core.
-
Greene has cut down SO% and increase BB% without sacrificing power so far this season vs last. I think that’s what had been hoped for. Torkelson will always find himself on the short end of a lot of fan evaluations because he isn’t living up to a 1st overall pick. Even if he improves his consistency and/or progresses his overall game, I think he’ll remain one of the primary targets of angst from the fan base.

such an asshat

Did you see the video of the Edwards injury? It played on twitter when I wasn't expecting it but I refused to post it here. Just...too gross. I'm surprised he didnt break his leg or tear his knee totally up.

No but what does wenceel perez have to do to lose playing time? Didn’t hit 2H last year, nor in spring, nor this year. Julks or Workman probably need a shot. Perez never had a track record as a hitter so not sure why his rope is so long. one silver lining is unlike last years roster, there should be an easy upgrade to find a league average OFer if meadows doesn’t come back or Clark doesn’t get promoted.

2026 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD

I’m still aboard the “trade Riley before the end of his contract because he seems like a player that’s going to age very poorly” boat Torkelson I have no issue with. If he’s not hitting, he will get less ABs. His defense is steady, and he isnt likely going to force us into either a long term deal or a must-trade scenario in the future. -
Are we still hating Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson? I just want to know.

9 of the 15 clubs in the AL are sub .500 teams.
