When I met my wife our first date was a Tiger game. I was a senior in high school. We met Labor day weekend. The following Friday I took her to a game against the Yankees. A few years ago I looked it up on BR. I figured if she couldn't handle going to a game then there's no point because that's what I do.5 points

I found this 8 x 11 photo I took with my first digital camera (It was huge and used discs). I wondered when it was. Thanks to Baseball Reference I was able to figure it out - very quickly. The only season Dean Palmer played for the Tigers while they were at Tiger Stadium was 1999. I went and looked at all the Box Scores from night games when the Indians were in town and only one had the corresponding inning-by-inning run count indicated on the LF scoreboard. This was September 23, 1999. Dean Palmer batting against Charles Nagy in the 3rd inning. Tony Clark was on first base. Dean lined out to RF. The Tigers won that game 7-5. They had only 4 more games at The Corner and I went to all of them. Man, I love Baseball Reference.2 points

yeah that would make sense. I guess from the standpoint we use at my job which isn't academic rigor - it's rigorous enough to use as a valuable piece of information in a larger business decision. From that standpoint, I would totally do the date of policy change as the cutoff b/c it's NOT arbitrary - it's when the policy changed. When I start adding days to that, I then DO have to demonstrate why I selected 7 days for appointment setting instead of 8,9,10,15, etc. Then I also have to demonstrate why I added 1 or 2 months to that for immunity to kick in and why did I select 1 month and not 2 months or should it have been 1.653 months? Should it be the same for every single person? Do I need to research whether a state was slow with their appointment setting systems and change the values for just that state? Why does one state get a special value but others don't? Etc etc.1 point

So what do you really know about Virginia election integrity and security. They already require ID, absentee ballots need to be signed by a witness, early voting lasts about 6 weeks. Makes it safe and convenient. Maybe too convenient for Trumpublicans. By the way, the current guy won the nomination after the party rigged the system to clear the way for Gov Fleecevest.1 point

People realize that Washington has not been very good since Daniel Snyder took over? Those Super Bowls Washington won weren't with the current owner. On field Washington has only been marginally better than the Lions and have been a dumpster fire off the field.1 point

That was a low-brow bachelor party. My own never made it to the strip club because drunken brother who demanded to drive everyone despite serious intoxication -- but who we told we were not allowing him to drive us across an international border in such condition -- decided to ram his snow plow on his Chevy Truck into the car in which we had all piled in to go to the establishment in Canada. So, the cops came instead and we had my brother hauled away to jail. Good times. On the good side, it gave us a rock solid story to tell at the wedding reception. Wedding guest 1: "Where is your brother W?" ROMAD1: "that Jackass is in jail" Wedding guest 2: "Where is your brother W?" ROMAD1: "Rotting jail like the attempted murderer he is"1 point

The United States is super conservative economically and that is driven by a small percentage of very wealthy people who control the country. I think we are generally socially liberal compared to other countries in many respects. When we stray from that, it's done to protect the economic conservatism.1 point

I haven't gotten COVID, no one in my immediate family has gotten COVID, then the only way to conclude that COVID is out of control is that I'm being told that it's out of control. It would be the media that I would hear such a thing from.1 point

Apparently the discrepancy is about people shot and killed on the expressways. "But that total count does not include people shot and killed in shootings on Chicago expressways, as they are the jurisdiction of the Illinois State Police. When that number is included the city reached at least 800 homicides, according to Tribune reporting in 2021." Chicago reached at least 800 homicides in 2021, a level not seen in 25 years - Chicago Tribune Holy shit, that means 39 people were whacked on the expressway. It's like when the Griswold's drove through St Louis. Roll em up.1 point

The DH is no longer an experiment. It is the state of the game. Every league above high school uses it. Only two leagues in the world do not. Pitchers will never get any better at hitting for a simple reason: they never work on it. Why should they? They never hit in college, they never hit in wood bat leagues, they never hit in foreign rookie leagues, and they never hit in the minor leagues. Most pitchers hardly step to the plate even in the major leagues. Of the 901 current active pitchers who have played in the majors, 242 of them haven't logged even a single plate appearance, and exactly have of them have three or fewer career plate appearances. Why bother working on your hitting if you're basically never going to hit? Every moment a pitcher works on his hitting is a moment spent not working on his pitcher. It would be a waste of his time. The only pitchers who have the luxury of working on their hitting are those who receive guaranteed multi-year contracts with National League teams. Sure, it was fun to watch Jon Lester work hard so he could get his first big league hit and home run, but he still ended up hitting .115 for his career. And that's what a good-hitting pitcher hits. Too often, too many pitchers try to make outs, on purpose and sometimes under manager's orders, to preserve his health for his pitching. They'll swing half-heartedly at pitches not intending to hit them (which would be a disaster because they might accidentally get a hit and have to risk injury on base), or more likely, just watch three strikes go right down the pipe. Some people might find that charming, but I think trying to make out makes for a dishonest at-bat, and I don't find it charming to watch the guy at the plate try to make out on purpose. Bring on the universal DH.1 point
