  3. Hmmm. We have excellent Italian food in northern NJ. Uncle Vinny asked me to extend an offer he said you wouldn’t refuse. Eh…. Should’ve known Jersey’d be excluded. 😂

  4. I have my first in-person guitar lesson tomorrow. I'm a little concerned since I told him I don't read music and just use tabs, and he wants me to learn to read music. With the prevalence of tabs, that feels unnecessary but I'll try to have an open mind.

  7. A couple of years ago I was walking out of Costco after only buying a big block of toilet paper and as I walked out I did the Brennan Huff fist pump from Step Brothers and a guy walking in knew what it was and starting laughing hysterically, I totally made that guy's day. https://i.makeagif.com/media/8-21-2015/8ANePZ.mp4

  8. Basically, the airspace over the border is a conflict zone as of this. The US has multiple Global Hawk drones enroute...I think we have had them flying on constant basis along with our other manned surveillance aircraft since November.

  18. https://www.wingas.com/en/raw-material-natural-gas/heat-from-natural-gas.html LOL - this article refers to something they call a Gas Absorption Heat Pump. In the US we used to call that a gas fired Ammonia absorption air conditioner. Because it was apparently some kind of model, my house had one when it was built (~1960). It had been abandoned in place by the time I bought it. I eventually put a normal electric compression AC unit on the pad. But the only way I figured out what I had was that I knew a little about them because I had an uncle who used to work on commercial units, which were once common in the US (they were obsoletely by modern turbo compressor units). The issue with these units is that they are mechanically complex (thus expensive at small scale) and there is enough ammonia in them to kill you if it leaks out.

  20. It's the same feeling I get when I go to a concert. You are outside, maybe waiting in line. You get in the lobby, walk around, get a drink then go out into the theater area and see the stage and drums set up, the lights, the soundboard.. then it hits you why you are there.

  21. Exactly... none of Biden's four predecessors handled Putin well when he engaged in incursions in the past. Having said that, if you cannot tell the difference between the foreign policy mistakes of Clinton/Bush/Obama and the absolute slobbering and Russian TP pedaling of Trump, I dont know what to tell ya.

  23. oh, that looks sweet. I'm almost completely on the opposite end, got a Tascam DP-03SD—two mono inputs, 8 tracks. it was fine when I just had a drum machine, software polysynth (recording direct to wav, and no sequencer), and guitar, but now that I'm getting into sequencer-driven synth hardware and synching the sequencers to my drum machine, which has stereo outputs, I think it might be time for an upgrade. not a 2488, though. maybe just a DP-24SD. I've never done the DAW thing, either. I don't mind all the mixing and mastering, but I'm cool doing it on my little Tascam. there's not much to my recordings to date anyway.

  24. I'm more with MTU that the situations are quite different. The similarity is that in each case we have a western leaning leadership claiming all they need to stand up is our support, but we can't judge the truth of that claim with much accuracy. In Iraq it was completely false, in Ukraine? Who knows? Where things are very much different is that there was a deep unresolved contradiction at the heart of our Iraq intervention that US policy simply ignored/missed/misunderstood, which was that while a western leaning Sunni political elite urged us to enter, our entry was predicated on establishing a democratic state - one that by definition could not fail to result in the Shia majority displacing the Sunni from long held political power, and engendering the inevitable civil war that in fact followed. So the failure of our Iraqi enterprise (or least the vagary of anything one could call success) was baked in from the get go because we were pursuing a policy that was blind to a fundamental reality on the ground we were entering. None of the above speaks to who is right about Ukraine, but it is why it is not a very comparable situation. Ukraine in not a nation with a long suppressed religious majority, which was the single most determinative fact in Iraq.

  30. i dont need to explain different theories of international relations to you, you already know. i mean, youre aware that there are different interpretations as to how the US should respond. its not donald trump to not want war with russia. i'll leave that for you big iraq war supporters. figured you would have learned your lesson.

  31. I was in my room and I was just staring at my computer thinking about everything but then again , I was thinking about nothing and Rob Manfred came in and I didn't even know he was there and he called my name and I didn't hear and then he started screaming "Mark!, Mark!" and I go "What's the matter?" and he goes "What's that matter with you" and I go "There's nothing wrong, Rob". He goes "Don't tell me that, you're on drugs" I go "No Rob, I'm not on drugs, I'm just thinking, you know? Why don't you get me some baseball?" and he goes "NO! YOU'RE NOT THINKING, YOU'RE ON DRUGS! Normal people don't act that way" and I go "Rob, just get me some baseball please, all I want is some baseball and he wouldn't give it to me, All I wanted was baseball, just some baseball and He won't give it to me, Just some baseball.

  32. Speaking of transcendent hitters, let's talk about Ray Oyler. Most of us know how just incredibly awful he was at the plate in 1968. Some of us were alive then to remember it. He was a glove-first shortstop; it was the Year of the Pitcher. The poor guy didn't stand much of a chance. But I had no idea that that his last hit of the season came on July 13: Thirty-three games, nine as a starter. Forty trips to the plate, 36 of them at bats. Zero hits. An .000/.053/.000 slash line for basically the entire second half of the season. No wonder Mickey Stanley started at shortstop in the World Series. Here's another fun Oyler fact: In 1967—the only season Ray finished above the Mendoza line—his slash line was a relatively lofty .207/.281/.264. He was still a two-win player that season. That's how good that glove of his was.

  35. Lets allow Ukraine to base its planes in Polish territory and support the war from there. Imagine how frustrated that would make Vladdie. It would be just like the Korean War, Vietnam War and Afghanistan where there was a no-go sanctuary for the superpower's foe.
