  1. Hard to imagine where this team would be without its pitching in general.

  2. Think about it. Until the moment the guy started shooting people… in Texas and to gun nuts everything was ok. “Oh Look a guy in body armor with an AR 15 out in public. Totally cool. Don’t bother him. He’s probably a patriot”.

  3. Why on earth would this team need Dallas Keuchel? Like, what does he give you that Joey Wentz, Garrett Hill or Reese Olson wouldn't give you if, God forbid, they need to reach further into the system? Or even Drew Hutchison or Chase Anderson for that matter? If this were a position player reclamation project, it would be one thing, but they don't really need a reclamation project pitcher to fix the mess they are in.

  7. A lifelong gun owner and Marine from Oregon named Ben Beers had turned in his AR-15 and handgun to the local police to have them destroyed. This is an act of courage. He's going against something he believed in his whole life because he couldn't justify it anymore. This is very brave because by going public he's probably going to be attacked now and I would imagine some of those attacks will include death threats. Talk about patriotism, doing something like this for your country because you know your country can be better. I'll raise a glass or two to Mr. Beers tonight. (The article calls him an ex-Marine.....is there such a thing?). https://www.huffpost.com/entry/oregon-man-tiktok-destroys-guns_n_6291cf7be4b0cda85dbf009f

  21. He can help by eating innings. With the amount of injuries the Tigers have, they are currently using one rotation day as a bullpen day. Having another starter, either Keuchel or someone else, would be better than taxing our bullpen.

  23. Jesus said "I come that they may have life and have it abundantly" You can take that to mean in the here and now just as much as any aspirational heaven. It's a moral code by which we would all live better in the here and now. But if you aren't so inclined, just look at the bees. They work together, they work for the good of each other, they know their jobs, dance for joy while doing them and what they do leaves the world a much sweeter place. Follow either example.

  25. that's a semantic question though. If power is complete freedom of action, having to act in every situation is also a limitation of power, thus omnipotence also implies freedom not to act. The real problem you run into if you try to run any of these definitions to ground are the joint paradoxes of will and and deterministic physics. First take physics. In a pure Newtonian physics every single event in the history of the universe was predetermined at the instance of its beginning because in Newtonian physics, the position of every single particle at time t + del t is fully determined by it's position and energy at time t. There is no freedom of any kind, for God or man, because the human body and brain are physical objects, no free will is possible. God put it into motion once and everything is predetermined. But this is fatal to any moral liability. Everything that happens in your brain is chemically and physically predetermined at every point in time. There is not even really any "you." You were a predestined automaton from the moment of creation. Of course no sentient human being actually believes they don't have will, thus this was always simply swept under the rug once Newtonian physics became established. So religious philosophers largely stopped talking about nature - or rejected science. Of course that we do live in a fully deterministic universe and self-awareness is simply a delusion, would be the ultimate cosmic joke. And certainly a very, very meta one if we can sit and write about it from within it. But then along came quantum mechanics and roiled all the waters. We learned that events in the universe are not fully determined by the past - events only have probabilities of occurring in the future and the process by we get from point A to point B actually have random character. Does this save the day? Can there actually be a thing called 'mind' which can somehow influence you brain's chemistry at the quantum level and produce a 'volition' that is truly independent of and not fully determined by its past state? And did a God create a universe that really operates on a measure of random chance? Einstein disliked this idea very much, his famous quote being "The theory says a lot, but does not really bring us any closer to the secret of the "old one." I, at any rate, am convinced that He does not throw dice." What does the term omnipotence even mean if there are 7 billions independent sources of volition on a single planet? Is it meaningful to say a being can be omniscient in a quantum universe? It seems to me such an omniscience would have to exist on some meta level outside the universe itself - a statement which itself has only tenuous meaning. You can throw all those questions into the same pot as other paradoxes of time and space such as: "what was before the universe?" or "what is outside the universe" Have a nice day....

  29. That's bullshit...how convenient of you to forget the brave African American security guard who was probably being paid $12/hr give his life to protect shoppers he didn't know in Buffalo...plenty of brave folks out there. Remember all the first responders who died on 9/11? The Uvalde police force are cowardly pussies. Probably couldn't be bothered to save a bunch of brown kids. if 19 of them were afraid of one teenager with a gun, maybe that should tell you something. Now they need security to protect themselves? Seriously, fuck them. Plenty of us healthcare workers put our lives on the line day after day and had to try and save assholes who insisted they didn't have Covid or that it was a hoax and not only had to worry about contracting the virus, but had to fear for our safety from all gun wielding Trumpturd assholes.

  30. How are fourth graders to be prepared when someone comes in and locks the door and starts shooting? What is “prepared” in that scenario. I don’t want to live in the world you think is required to prepare for this. That’s not normal.

  31. there are two problems - mass death weapons and too many handgun. The former need to go away, the qualifications for possessing the later need to be much tighter. handguns are not even all that useful for protecting a home either because in any home with children they need to be locked up and your average home invader is not going to politely stand aside while you wake yourself up and arm yourself. And in any home where they are not locked up the probabilities appear high they are more likely to kill a member of the household than an invader.
