  1. More and more every day I think there is something fundamentally wrong with this team's approach to hitting. Whether that is Coolbaugh, Hinch or Avila's influence or some combination it's reaching a point where it's statistically too unlikely that that so many hitters could come to this team either from other teams or from the minors and all crash. You can put JD Martinez on one side of the ledger, and almost every other player who has ever been on the roster on the other.

  2. Today I went to Human Society of Huron Valley and looked at the dogs. I wanted to take everyone of them home. I connected with a dog, some kind of shepherd, smaller than a German Shepherd but while I was there someone claimed her. There were a couple other dogs, but I had to go, it was just too emotional. I'm still kind of a wreck, as much as I want a dog here. I still can't forgive myself, even though I know there really wasn't a choice.

  4. As far as non-rookies go, I am okay going into next season with Schoop as the everyday second baseman. He's under contract for one more season and probably bounces back to something closer to career norms. Seems like he has been around forever but he'll only be 31 next year. Kind of bridge to Wenceel Perez.

  9. That's exactly how I feel, Frank Zappa, there is more to it than just luck. There has to be. And the Coolbaugh thing...........When Greene came up he was just playing baseball like he has his whole life. The Tigers got in his head and they've got him thinking about things instead of just playing. They are overloading these guys with information. Either you can do it, or you can't and when you can't, then you try to figure out how you can. They're digging into these guys skulls way too much. I think they did it with Candelario and Schoop and Tork. Heck, Victor Reyes came back and was hitting, then Coolbeans got to him and got in his head and he can't hit now. Don't let him near Kerry Carpenter.

  10. Looks like the Coolbaugh effect is in full effect now for Greene.

  11. Why do you assume that. Chris is fine. He's making a profit. Why mess with it. If you think it's about winning or losing with that guy, you're not paying attention. He does not care a bit. As long as he can make money. Tiger Fans: Stop going to the games. Make that stadium look like Oakland. They're not going to move the team away.

  12. What, only having one out of every ten games worth watching after the first inning not good enough?

  15. If central banks had a fucking clue they would never have blown the bubbles to begin with. They are shysters only to make the rich richer, which is why they printed trillions of dollars to begin with.

  16. Economic calendar  - FRB of New York That link is to July economic calendar. If you don't like that one you can find others all over the web. These releases are embargoed until a certain time on certain days. They will help understand what the economy is doing. But beware; read the actual reports, don't rely on the press to give you the straight scoop. They usually report the "headline" numbers which many times doesn't reflect the real picture. As far as inflation, we are seeing commodity prices go down, but those are only part of the CPI basket. If you search for CPI basket weightings, you can see a better picture of what makes up the final numbers. Gas and food prices are only part of it.

  19. Punishing a hitter for an error is kinda weird, I mean if you're going to punish him for a defender not making a play that is said to be routine then why don't you reward him when a defender makes a spectacular play to rob him of a hit?

  22. I would say that's a low chance. He hits his second abritration years and starts to get really exensive. They could non tender him and take his money for any infield position and probably get at least what he produced this year.

  23. I don’t agree that Jeimer is on the squad next season. I think if Kreidler stays healthy, he gets called up to play 3B in September. They’ll non-tender Candelario, IMO

  27. I am so happy for this girl. Lucy will be 13 in a month, but for most of this year she has really been noticeably slowing down. At her regular vet checkup in May she got a clean bill of help, but she was still just struggling - I attributed it to age. In June, she broke some blood vessels in her ear, scratching it because of an infection & had to have surgery. The vet prescribed an antibiotic, & after finishing it this week she is like a new dog! Jumping, playing again, & she has that bright look back in her eyes. We figure she might have had a UTI or something that went undiagnosed, & the antibiotic knocked it out.

  28. Dang….Javy is unwatchable at the plate. Does he even try to change his approach….ever? Why does a pitcher ever throw him a pitch over the plate since he has shown he is incapable of laying off those pitches. I hope he declines his option and the Tigers are relieved of this. Al certainly picked the wrong SS this past winter.

  30. Just a heads up for those considering adoption. About 4 thousand beagles are becoming available from the hounds rescued from the breeding facility in SW Virginia. The Humane Society is partnering with numerous shelters across the country to help these pups to find good homes.
