You can't make this stuff up https://www.sltrib.com/opinion/2022/08/05/utah-company-fined-replacing/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email Shot.. Kicker...4 points

I was only 9 at the time, but was at the Double Header when they retired Greenberg and Gehringer’s numbers. How I wish I had kept the poster they gave out rather than hanging it in my “fort”.4 points

I see the Cubs claimed Franmil Reyes, presumably the Tigers didn't feel they needed a free swinging guy who doesn't hit in the majors when their farm system is loaded with guys who can do that in the future2 points

Our farm system is probably in better shape than it was in during its darkest times but that doesn't mean it's in good shape either, atleast relative to the rest of the league. Yeah we may have 10 -12 "lottery ticket" type guys with high upside but so does the vast majority of other teams as well.2 points

I mentioned this earlier but I saw a comment on the internet comparing Breaking Bad to Godfather I and BCS to Godfather II. The first one is more popular and accessible but the second one is the better film and story. No criticism at all of Breaking Bad. It's hard for me to judge clearly because I binged Breaking Bad when BCS was announced so that I could follow along BCS in real time. So maybe I didn't get the full experience knowing my answers were just an hour away if I chose to keep going that day. Sometimes the joy is waiting for the next episode or season and chewing on what you just saw for awhile.2 points

Agree to go outside the organization for a new GM but if they do stay in house then Hinch is the only choice since he had the less time in Detroit and therefore closest to an external hire. Chadd should be swept out also. Anyone close to Al. Clean sweep.1 point

I’ll bet Hinch, like every other Tiger fan, is hoping Avila gets the ax soon enough.1 point

no, just putting out there that concerns about lithium are overblown. Yes, there will be a lift to increase production. But Lithium is about as common in the earth's crust as Cu, Zn or Cr. You don't get a dozen or so large multinational manufacturers going full tilt for a set of technologies based on a non-existent resource base. Lithium suppliers are committing to battery manufactures based on their projections of how much they've determined they can expand production and it seems to be enough for the anticipated market. I think a good counter example would be hydrogen. For years we have heard talk about the hydrogen economy being just around the corner, but of course we never see it, and the reason is that because even though every water molecule contains two hydrogen atoms, there actually is no source of large scale molecular hydrogen (the form needed to 'burn') available currently or in the foreseeable future. Thus while you hear 'people' carry on about it constantly - touting its supposed availability, you don't see any actual commercialization attempts anywhere, and it's because when industrial people look at commercializing a hydrogen application for a real world application they quickly learn there isn't any. OTOH, 'people' carry on a lot about Li, but you don't see the talk bothering the people already adopting it commercially. They've done the due diligence and aren't too worried about it.1 point

As interesting as it sounds, the blurb reads as uninformed speculation.1 point

I like Dark Brandon because it adopts the bullshit of the "resolute" RW blowhards and deploys it like a brain torpedo against them.1 point

I'm glad they didn't acknowledge them. It's Lou's day. We have plenty of time to boo Ilitch.1 point
