I’m not following the team too closely this year — that’ll probably change next year, I hope — but you guys must’ve been shitting your pants. 9-0 then OMG? And I don’t blame you. I’m glad I was too busy today to follow this game. I wish you all the best but I just don’t have the balls to watch this team this year. I tried to watch the free broadcast of mlb.tv’s Saturday game, but when I heard Shep’s voice my will to live left me. It’s a baseball version of PTSD Instead I woke up at 4:30 AM and watched cycling — Stage 9 of the Spanish Grand Tour — until 10 AM, then went out for a long walk with a friend and had lunch and then went to my reading group and got home ate a burrito and read the first 50 pages of Dostoyevsky‘s “The Brothers Karamazov” in which I think some really bad shit is going to go down by the time I get to page 848. I was happy. I wish I could share this season with you but I can’t. For the first time in the 19 years since I rediscovered this team of my childhood I just don’t have it in me. All I have to offer are complaints and negativity. You guys deserve better than bitching and complaining. Hope they’re better next year.3 points

My prized baseball possession, handed to me personally by Hall of Famer Bob Feller during spring training in Tucson 35 years ago. I had been walking on the warning track of one of the practice fields and five balls in a row rolled up to me during BP and I threw all of them back to Mr. Feller and he threw this one back to me and said “Keep it kid you’ve done your work today.“ I was 35 years old and did not think I was a kid but now, oh how I wish I were that kid. So is this just a dirty old ball that’s been used a lot or could some of this be due to pitchers practicing illegal pitches and leaving trace‘s of their handywork on the ball?3 points

They had to call a scrub on Artemis 1 today because they can't abort in Florida.2 points

**** Disclaimer: IF YOU CAN - depending on what engines you have. **** Anyone using gas powered yard toys (mowers, weed whackers, blowers, snow blowers), 2 or 4 cycle. Go to the local airport and buy aviation fuel instead of using this crap they sell at the gas station. Av gas doesn't have ethanol which helps gum up carburetors and fuel lines. You can also leave it in the machine and not run it out when done. They start easier and run better - by far. Some gas stations offer "recreational" gas, which is better, but the av gas is the best. You will thank me later.2 points

When you assume you will get a player that had 120 wrc for multiple seasons in return it makes sense. I understand what you are saying about his strike zone ability but it honestly hasn't been shown in the bigs even with his latest hot streak it's not like he is killing it with both the average or walking. If Meadows had his average season I doubt this would be as big of a talking point over this season. If Paredes turn into Suarez I'll be the first to call this a bad trade. Right now it doesn't look great and I accept that but I feel like lots of that is based on what has happened that was out of anyone's control. I would bet that Paredes ends up as a 1B/DH in the next couple years because he just doesn't have the body type to be a positive in the field which has limited value without a large OPS.1 point

Trump, an executive at Truth Social, is publicly lying about its stock price, a securities violation, but of course we cannot stop him because laws are not important1 point

But, but, but... Sandra Bullock said LT was the most important.1 point

I've been assured that if you extend that range back to July 5, you will see he has been struggling at the dish recently.1 point

Paredes hit 6 home runs last night (edit: OK only 2). Trade is trending to a Saurez-level disaster.1 point

It will be the smaller/private airports. Over here there is one in Marshall that sells 100LL and 94 octane ethanol free. Pump is available 24/7. If you are around water, a lot of marinas also sell ethanol free fuel.1 point

Don't blame you at all Bert. I had hope finally coming into this season that they would be decent, and they have been victimized by horrible horrible bad luck, but they also have three "showcase" players who were still in their prime years who turned into nightmares this year (Baez, Schoop, and Candy), a marquee 1st Rounder who bombed (Tork), another 1st Rounder who failed health-wise (Mize), along with another prime-time star (Meadows), and all we can do is hope that they all rebound at some point. This organization has been a bleep-show for a long time, and Chris I has never demonstrated the ability or will to be a successful owner, starting with having Avila sell off Verlander for beans and then pulling a Sgt. Shultz ("I knew nothingk!!") on the trade recently. My "bright line" is Miggy, I admire the way they handled his great milestones this year, and I think the organization is to be commended for that. But I can't take another season of trying to remember when Miggy was healthy and something above Replacement level (2016 and before), while watching light bloopers to right and groundouts where the fielders practice soft-tossing to first and Miggy can't even get in the camera shot down the 1st base line. I realize 2023 is going to be a Hail Mary, but I cannot continue to watch a team that thinks that's what I want to see. I hope that Chris realizes that he has been the author of this garbage and spends a little $$ to help get the roster into some kind of decent shape. I'm not talking about spending like his dad, I'm just saying get up to the league average of payroll (which isn't chump change) and saints forbid maybe even go a little beyond that. Shouldn't the fans EXPECT and DEMAND a decent and maybe even winning product? What the heck.1 point

Stolen from the comments section of a WaPo political column: "I will give Trump this: he supports one of the traditional Republican values -- small government. He wants the government to consist of himself, and himself alone."1 point

It took many years, but I believe the FCC finally forced radio stations to stop broadcasting commercials at higher audio levels than their regular programming - but now the practice has just moved to steaming services. The commercials in the Tiger game day stream are running at least 12db higher than Dan's mike in the booth, to the point where if I the cut the volume to 'bearable' for the spots, I literally can't hear Dan at all. The increasing severity of this practice has actually driven me back to listening on broadcast radio despite the greater convenience of using the stream. However today's game on AM an my house is out of range for 1270 AM. 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡1 point

If DOJ doesn't indict—if we go through all we have the past few months and nothing happens—then that's ballgame. Trump wins, democracy dies, and the fascists will be in control within three years, tops.1 point

Just annoying as hell. I gamble on sports myself (but lightly, $10 a time), the people on these shows all sound like degenerate gamblers and I always wonder if they are so fucking good at this, why are they working for a living? And as fun as it has been to even gamble a little bit, the explosion of this has made sports less enjoyable.1 point

She is very easy to love. She's the happiest and sweetest dog. And she has settled in here like she's lived here forever. I bought a camera to watch her when I am at work and she mostly lays in the bed or lays in the bay window. She doesn't seem to have separation anxiety (she'd been homeless and then in a kennel for several months). She knows she's got it good here, because she does.1 point

We used a pop-up for a long time and camped all around the state, made it down to WV once too. Then everything went to shit in the pop-up and it started to leak so we sold it. A couple weeks ago we rented an RV and had it delivered to a campsite right on the edge of the Porcupine mountains. That camper was super nice, I really liked it, but renting was pretty expensive relative to just even getting a cabin or something like that for lodging. I think our next destination will be down in the Smokeys... but don't sleep on the UP, it's really awesome. Just make sure you don't get stuck miles away from gas stations b/c there aren't many. When you rub Lucy's belly she starts to flail her legs around (in happiness) and she got me right in the eye this morning, the good eye (I'm functionally blind in my left eye). This happened with another dog once, but it was worse - that put me out of commission for a few days (can't drive or read with my left eye). Silly dog.0 points
