which is interesting because John Cleese in particular is against cancel culture. Not saying he's a right winger at all but when it comes to going after comedians for jokes he's not a fan. He discussed this on a Marc Maron WTF podcast. He said they have Polish jokes but it's about the Irish. He told one of a rabbi walking on the beach with his grandson. A big wave comes in and snatches the boy away. He gets on his knees and pleas to God to bring his grandson back and offers up a bunch of promises. A wave comes back and his grandson washes ashore, shaken up but ok. Then the rabbi yells out "When he went in he had a hat on" (think of it told in a British accent)2 points

Maybe he's looking closer to home too. He's from Reno. I think quite a few Pac-12 teams will be looking for a stabilizing QB next year.1 point

100%. This conflict is existential for Ukraine... Putin himself framed it as such with how he characterized it before the invasion. And the existential nature of the conflict impacts the utility of a negotiation. Let's hypothetically say that one condition of a settled negotiation is that Putin must agree that Ukraine have a right to exist and that the Russian government would respect its sovereignty (which should be the absolute bare-minimum of conditions): 1. Does anyone here feel confident he says "Yes"? (I don't) 2. Even in the event of a "Yes", given how frequently Putin has broken agreements and lied over the years, who would believe him? (I wouldn't) That's the problem, if the Russian leader can't even be believed to be interested in the bare minimum requirements that should be required of a negotiation, the mere right of Ukraine to exist, it's hard to understand the point of negotiations and makes it easier to understand why Ukraine wouldn't be interested in them.1 point

one problem is that now that Russia has declared itself as the enemy of Ukrainian existance, the strategic importance to Ukraine of some of the territory captured pre 2021, and even including Crimea, has increased to a point far beyond what it was prior. Ukraine could tolerate a peaceful Russia in SE Ukraine, it can hardly tolerate a professed enemy of its existance commanding its access to the black sea. Russia's conduct has basically precluded going back to the status quo ante 2021. That is just the new reality.1 point

Of all the changes Harbaugh made to get Michigan back on track, finally firing Don Brown was such a huge and positive change. Can you imagine Don Brown coaching this game the last two seasons? He'd have blitzed his way into a loss. Props to Jim Harbaugh for finally recognizing that Dr. Blitz was making his defense worse and making the change. Also props to him keeping the same defensive system in place when Mike McDonald left and he brought in Jesse Minter.1 point

If this is grooming, I approve of it. What has MTG, Kerry Lake et all done lately? https://www.styleweekly.com/richmond/death-drops-for-tots/Content?oid=19463505 Those of us who grew up watching Milton Berle, Flip Wilson, Corp Klinger, Tom Hanks, etc approve. But then the Christian Right probably snuck in and out of strip clubs and massage parlors.1 point

Some good moments in this one. My favorite might be at the 3:14 mark, with fans getting up and headed to the aisles to leave while Edwards is still in the endzone after this 2nd long TD. I hope the distracted driver didn't drive off the road and up on to a sidewalk or something1 point

I think this is exactly right. It's not that Day is a "bad" coach. You don't go 42-5 across four seasons in the B1G as a bad football coach. But he inherited a well-oiled machine that could coach itself if it really needed to. For more than a decade, it was Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and the field. From 2009 to 2018, those three schools won 8 of 10 championships. If you were a 5* athlete who wanted to win an FBS national championship, those were your three options to go do it, unless you planned on catching lightning in a bottle. It's why I'm on the record (though maybe on the old forum) as saying I didn't think Michigan stood a chance against Ohio State until the playoff expanded. It was like we were in the Minor Leagues and they were in the Majors. It didn't have to be Day as the figurehead for Ohio State. You could put anyone in that role, and they walk into CJ Stroud's living room and say "look what we do!", you've got a really good chance at securing them. When Urban left in 2018, that was the machine and system that Day walked into. And he's done a great job of changing absolutely nothing. They continue to recruit exactly how they did before and they continue to walk all over 12 of their opponents in the B1G. It's Michigan - Jim Harbaugh specifically - that has adapted and said "that's who we need to beat and this is how we are going to do it". Now the ball is in Day's court to show whether he can adapt too in this chess match, or whether being stuck on 3rd base will define his OSU legacy.1 point

If Will Anderson is there, I think you have to consider him... And by consider him, it may be a Sewell situation where they submit that pick before the NFL is ready for it. He has had a "down" year this season, which for him is 10 sacks and 17 TFL through 12 games. He was an absolute freak of nature last year, with 17.5 sacks, 31 TFL, and 101(!) total tackles. Him and Hutch on opposite sides of the line could dominate the NFC North for a decade to come.1 point

Way, way back in the day there was a lot of back and forth between Greg Landry and Bill Munson over multiple seasons, but I don't think you could call it a platoon, they just couldn't decide who was better.1 point

All the losing M has done to O over the last 20 years has made me a lot less cheeky than I used to be, but I really do think there's something to Harbaugh's quote about "Being born on 3B & thinking you hit a triple." I believe Ryan Day is a good coach, but he is not NEARLY the coach the media thinks he is - or maybe that HE thinks he is. There's been a smugness to his demeanor since he took over. The Big Ten has not forced him to prove it until, as you said, M has. Harbaugh has brought an NFL mindset to replace the kind of scheme mindset that Don Brown had. When something isn't working, you stop doing it & try something else. Day has not had to adjust at all for 3 years & now he's being exposed.1 point

Getting back to the topic of baseball...the Yankees may be looking to deal Gleybar Torres...could be can offensive upgrade if he's open to playing 2B. Doing some online research in Google news archive of the Toledo Blade. Stumbled upon an interesting item in the sports pages. Apparently...at the 1974 winter meetings the Tigers almost traded Bill Slayback and Mickey Stanley to the Mets. The Mets were to send Rusty Staub to the Phillies..the Phils would then send C Bob Boone to Detroit. Great deal for Detroit...Ok deal for the Phils...awful trade for the Mets1 point

I haven’t seen him. Given his off court issues, I don’t care about his talent. Just hard pass, please.1 point

Well, keep in mind that Hock played 47 games with the Lions vs. Ebron's 56. So, on a per game basis: Ebron: Yards: 37 Receptions: 3.32 TDs: 0.2 Hock: Yards: 44 Receptions: 4.23 TDs: 0.32 Now, while those are better numbers, they are phenomenally better. Which makes me think the trade was a better idea.1 point

Motown Bombers: The Lions need to do everything to win now. They got goff they got pieces win today don't worry about tomorrow/ Also Motowon Bombers: They should take a lesser player so they can hopefully add some talent in the future. So which is? Try to win now or move down in the draft and add players in 2024?0 points
