Last has exactly the correct term: "Serious People" I think affluence has left us with too many millions in this country that span from the boomers right down to the millenials who have led such sheltered lives, whole lives so protected from consequences, who've had somebody else ffollowing behind them to clean up all the messes they have made in lives, devoid of any need to actually consider that actions have outcomes, that they simple don't qualify as serious people. And they make bad voters.2 points

These moves were likely already decided before Spring Training. Despite a lot of open roster spots, I don't think either of them were seriously considered unless there were a lot of injuries. That being said, both are probably going to make their ML debut at some point during this season, especially if they perform well in AAA.2 points

Neither of them will sign a one year deal. Probably both of them will look for a three year deal. And neither of them is going to come in and mentor any rookies in a defense they are just learning. At any rate, if their chief skills are physical, what could they possibly teach a rookie? Either the rookie is fast and strong or he is not. OTOH, the entire Lions coaching staff has raved about Anzalone's ability to teach defense to the rookie Rodrigo. And he did it at a third of what Wagner or David will make. Wagner and David were never going to be the first guys to sign. They want to wait and see what the market will bring them. They don't care about the rebuild, the culture, restoring the roar, whatever, and they don't have to. They care about making the most dollars they can in the short time they have left. More power to them. But that doesn't mean I think my team should make them the team's second-highest paid player after the QB. What message does that send? Work your butt off, Anzalone, be a leader on the field and off, do everything we ask you to do, and... we'll replace you with a mercenary. Might as well light the culture right on fire.2 points

Heard a listener on 97.1 say that Anzalone is the Brandon Inge of the Lions. I see it.2 points

When I was 19 I took a bend on a country road that was marked at 35mph at 80 in a 1978 Ford Fiesta. I spun out on gravel and lost control. The car started flipping and rolling (cut the wheel hard because I was heading into a tree line). Came to a rest facing the opposite direction than when it started. Thankfully..I didn't hurt anyone but me (compression fx's in my thoracic spine). I get the whole "hey I'm A kid..I'm bullet proof" thing..so I'd draft Carter at6...if he was my BPA. Sheila has been around a long time...she may be thinking "Reggie Rogers 2.0...no thanks".1 point

I think this is the relevant issue. A pattern of behavior is a problem. And would take Carter off the board, unless the team felt he would grow up quickly and not be destructive problem. A lack of commitment to the team/ football/ practice/ giving 100% all of the time, is also a problem. And would take Carter off the board, unless the team felt they could inspire him somehow. I think Carter is off their board primarily due to problem #2. Problem #1 probably clinches it. And maybe the team could even absorb a player of Carter's talent and hope they could inspire him somehow... But I don't think they want that on this team... at this point in time. Like MC's earlier post... once DC has enough cache in the NFL (a couple Supers or so...); they might be open to drafting/ challenging a Carter... I just don't think they're there yet. But what do I know? Watch them draft Carter and take their chances...1 point

This is so comical - Can you imagine reading "Joe Montana has provided the Chiefs with a wish list, including WR Jerry Rice, and RB Roger Craig"1 point

I don't think it's a stretch to say that someone taking a medication designed for horses and cows for 10 years is related that medication.1 point

This kind of money? Come on, this isn’t a large contract and that’s before we even seen the guaranteed money! At a $6M avg your talking 2.6% of your teams cap on a starter or first off the bench guy who is widely respected in the locker room and who obviously improved with the rest of the defense as the season went on. And it’s likely the lions will only be committed to two years. Let’s stop pretending like he just got some ridiculous about of money.1 point

If we get the Anzalone of the last five weeks or so of 2022 (sans Carolina) spread across a 17+ game NFL season, this is fine. A good-not-great player at market value. But color me skeptical that will be the case. The guy is not some up-and-comer. He is a six-year veteran who was statistically the 3rd worst linebacker in all of football in 2021, was outperformed by a 6th round rookie in training camp, and had games this year against Dallas and Seattle where he may have benefitted the team by not suiting up.1 point

To the evil people they think it’s a bunch of loose women who want consequence free sex and dammit that’s only allowed for youth pastors and Republican members of congress.1 point

Anzalone was better the INSTANT Aubrey Pleasant was fired. . Pleasant was f'ing up the whole scheme. The whole defense completely changed when they bounced him.1 point

UM - if you have a *surplus* that's because you are selling oil but no-one will sell *you* anything. Seems that is pretty much what the international community has been aiming at. No-on had any illusions you could stop India and China from buying Russian oil.1 point

Cossa and Lethemon continue to backstop the Walleye..they haven't lost since February 4th. Lethemon has 1.99 GAA and .930 SV%. (Lethemon has a 19-1-3 record!) Cossa had some early struggles but he's got the GAA down to 2.45 and the save % up to .913. Next year's GR tandem?1 point
