Harris was very clear with his philosophy to build a winning roster. 1) Acquire and retain young players 2) Create a culture of development 3) The key to everything are batters and pitchers that dominate the strike zone. When it comes to the 3rd and most important part, it’s been apparent in the past and is glaringly so at the moment that the cupboard is nearly bare with this type of player. They may need to overhaul 75% of the 40 man to acquire the talent that fits this model. We are talking multiple drafts along with many fliers on lower level major and minor league free agents and trades to restock the entire organization. This could take a while to get right again. I do like that Harris has a philosophy that he wants to build on that makes sense in modern baseball. It’s ugly now and things may get even worse before they get better but I like the person they have steering the ship.2 points

I dressed as Carnac for Halloween 2021. Recycled about 50 of his jokes, 20 of my own. Stuffed them in envelope and did the routine at the party. Zipideedoodah was the biggest hit.2 points

The whole argument for taking a QB, outside of rookie contract, is "raising the ceiling". Well, you have a QB in Hooker that is many years older than their current QB was when he led his team to a Super Bowl and made multiple Pro Bowls so what you're getting with Hooker if he reaches his potential is pretty much what Goff is at his best and he likely won't even hit that level for at least a few years because of the injury and then having to get familiarized with the offense etc. then, guess what, it'll be time to pay him soon after. In the meantime, you pretty much wasted a pick in the win now window that could have been used for a Day 1 starter when the NFC is there to be had. I've said that I'd be ok with taking him with one of the 2nds but I'm starting to backtrack on even that because it's only a 4 year rookie contract so I'm pretty much taking him off my board completely. I'd sooner gamble on the upside of Richardson who has the potential to be a "ceiling raiser" than settle for Hooker and I'd rather not do that either. If the Lions were in position to take Stroud or Young then maybe but these guys afterwards are just too risky with a potential reward that is a remote chance of happening.1 point

I'm not trading up until I know what the Texans are doing at #2. There isn't a rock solid guarantee that they'll take a QB. They may wait until next year and enter into the Caleb Williams sweepstakes. I'm only trading up to #3 with Arizona if it is to get Will Anderson and the price is reasonable. I'm not giving up #6 and #18, which is what I think it will take to move up if past trades are any indicator. If the Texans pass on a QB and take Anderson then trading up to #3 and giving up whatever amount of draft capital will have been a waste.1 point

Valenti brought up a great point yesterday. Look at the state of the NFC right now. It’s Philly and SF as the consensus 1-2. Who’s next? It’s probably the Lions. Maybe Dallas could be argued but even so that puts the Lions at no worse than 4th choice entering the season to make the Super Bowl. They have a tremendous opportunity in front of them this season and need to use both of these picks on players that can make some type of impact right now. They can’t afford to take any QB at 6 or 18 that would be for down the road They need the help now to maximize this opportunity.1 point

The security clearance aspect of this is very true. If you roll into a background investigation spouting love for dictators and human rights violators they won't clear you.1 point

I like Paredes and I hope he does well, but let's not send him to Cooperstown just yet. Last year other than an impossible 11 game streak in which he hit 8 home runs his results were pretty much exactly the same as his Tigers performance. He's off to a decent start this year but I would wait to see a full season of good performance. Count me among those who were pleasantly surprised that the Tigers got Meadows for him.1 point

Hooker makes no sense to me if he’s unable to do anything until well after season starts. It’s a big waste of a crucial development year. It would seem like a better idea to punt and draft a project QB next year when the draft is so much stronger at the position.1 point

Not sure why everyone is freaking out right now. Baseball savant Craig Monroe watches BP everyday and is still confident this club can win 90 games.1 point

They need some good luck with these pitching rehab guys. At the very least, you want cheap and controllable mid rotation starters.1 point

To add, I would imagine a handful of guys will or could remain from the last rebuild longer term, Tork and Greene obviously chief among them. Maybe they salvage some production out of Meadows or Perez or Colt Keith as well. Overall, I think best case scenario is that Tork and Greene both show themselves to be long term pieces over the next year or so and then get them signed to an extension so that they hit their prime in a realistic time frame for Harris to rebuild this thing. They may be positively awful this year, but that, along with maybe seeing Tarik back and producing later on this year, would help in at least showing a glimmer of hope.1 point

PS: I forgot, also... NT is called a 1-tech, directly over the Center. 3-tech means over either shoulder of the Guard 5-tech means outside shoulder of the OT 2-tech means directly in front of the OG 4-tech means directly over the OT. There's also a "split-wide" DE which means they are far enough away from the OT that he doesn't count as being aligned with the OT, not even on the outside shoulder.1 point

Don't underestimate the value of that #31 pick. Great spot to pick up a player that has dropped out of the first round without taking on a guaranteed contract. Valuable pick whether you keep it or trade it.1 point

I dont generally open up about personal things, but within a two day span we had to say goodbye to both of our Basset Hounds. Almost 13 and 12 respectively. Nothing really prepares you for losing both that quickly, though they were both close in age and close generally. :(0 points
