  1. OBP is exceptionally misleading in the complex leagues, particularly the DSL, because the caliber of pitching is so wildly variable. Frankly, stats of any kind at that level of affiliated ball are borderline meaningless.

  2. If you're just looking at stats, I'd suggest you don't get any type of real read until Double-A.

  3. Stats are still fun to look at even at the lower levels, with the understanding that they don't predict success at the higher levels.

  4. dude, you know the next time some 22 year old second baseman is hitting .350 in high A ball you'll be the first one on here saying he's the next Lou Whitaker. you cant help it! 😉

  5. Fox mock: Langford and HS SS 37. Detroit Tigers — SS Walker Martin; Eaton (CO) Martin will be one of the more fascinating prep players to monitor on draft night. Having already turned 19 in February, he’s one of the oldest high-school players in the class which gives some teams pause. However, he also had one of the loudest springs of any prep hitter as he downright dominated all season to a ridiculous degree, albeit against middling competition in northern Colorado. He very well could go in the 10-20 range, but I have him sliding to the comp round in this scenario. Either way, it would make sense for Detroit to pair a likely college pick at No. 3 with a high-upside high schooler here at No. 37.

  6. Oh good, it's starting. Someone posted a video of Bagley in an open run at a gym in Miami and said how good he looks. Stop.

  7. Cade is officially a bust. I saw him livestream something on IG. He was in a car with friends listening to music. The pussy didn't even pull a gun out.

  10. With MLB contracting the minor leagues Boise, Idaho lost its long time NWL short season team and my kids that still live in town took me to a game tonight for Father’s Day. All the players look older and bigger than the players I remember from the last 30 plus years when the team was affiliated with the Angels, the Cubs, and the Rockies. I was hoping there might be some career minor leaguers who were released from AA or AAA, but the league will not accept anyone who’s had more than three years of professional experience. I saw very few pitches above 86 mph, although a couple reached 91 or 92. There were no home runs tonight. There is a pitch clock and the home team won and the game took 2:25. SWEET! If the game is tied, they have some dumb kind of home run derby that I just couldn’t take the time to figure out when I was reading about it. The fielding seemed pretty decent compared to the 19-21 age guys I am used to seeing, and the outfielders had some pretty strong arms. There were some real lasers from right field to home plate that were quite exciting. There were a couple completed double plays too. You’re never going to see a Ken Griffey a Dontrelle Willis, Gleyber Torres, or Kyle Schwarber come through town again. Rickey Henderson started his career here in 1976 playing on a high school field for the Athletics’ rookie league team. But it surprised me how entertaining it was and in some respects, how little different from what I was used to seeing - with some exceptions - compared to short season Class A. I have to say, though, when he was 17 Gleyber Torres already looked like a major leaguer. i’m going to miss those moments. But I will definitely come back. Ticket prices are definitely lower. The food, however is just as expensive. But still, if I could hang the people from lamp posts who contracted the minor leagues and took away genuine major league prospects from smaller cities all over America, I would do it I’m kidding…

  14. seeing guys like durzi and colton go for next to nothing makes you wonder if the wings have something cooking with those second rounders or if they plan on stocking up on prospects?

  17. My two FA targets: Harrison Barnes - 3/$60M year 3 is a team option. Donte DiVincenzo - 3/$30M year 3 is a team option No big splash and nothing fancy. But both provide 3PT shooting and both are at least plus defenders IMO.

  18. Always good when another team with cap space uses it on a player you don't even want.

  19. Tigers should probably think about making the organization a 'Perez free' zone. Too many bad experiences with that handle already.

FCL W 9-5 Walker 0/4 BB K Gil 2/6 RBI 2K Briceno 4/4 RBI 2BB 2 2B (Signed last year for 800K SSS (58 AB .378/.493/1.183) but only 18 years old) Sequera 2/3 2RBI HR (Rehab stint) Reylin Perez has not been in the lineup lately and I have not seen any injury news so that is interesting, may just be doing some instructional things on the side.

  23. Tiger killer Dane Dunning vs. Joey "meatball" Wentz, about as big of mismatch as you can get...... which means the Tigers will probably win this one.

  24. Wentz is pitching. We should probably all take a scheduled day off tomorrow.

  27. Probably not—the ball has not changed in size since 5-for-4-inch-140-pound pitchers were trodding the earth in the 1880s. They are all between five and 5-1/4 ounces. Long story short: deadening the ball will reduce fear of the home run and allow pitchers to pitch to contact, letting their fielders get outs for them by throwing strikes to down-the-order-hitters to get more balls put the ball in play.

  28. Tigers went 15 years between Gold Glove winners, Pettis in 1989 and Pudge in 2004. Tigers have only won one since 2009.... Ian Kinsler won in 2016.

  29. Since the rumors are so strong about making an offer to Cam Johnson. Some info on restricted free agents. RFA's are eligible for sign and trades, but it has to happen before they sign an offer sheet. Once they sign the offer sheet they are no longer eligible for a S&T. Once an offer sheet is signed the original team has 24 hours to match or decline. During that 24 hour period our cap space used in the offer would be frozen, meaning we cant use it. If the original team matches we get the space back. If they dont, obviously the space is used up on our new player.
