Tork cranked three line drive HR's with exit velo's in the 101-07 range. He's fun to watch when he's dialed in3 points

As long as the top students (maybe top 20%?) get admitted based on merit, I don't think affirmative action is a big deal. If an average White student misses out because of an average Black student, then I don't care. I think stupid lazy people getting admitted because they were born into wealthy connected families is a bigger issue and a very common one.3 points

I am unreasonably excited about this pick, looking forward to him playing in the SHL next season.3 points

See? I told you to just have patience with Torkelson. He's still a kid...growing pains.2 points

Domingo German just threw a 99 pitch perfect game against the Oakland A’s. 4th in Yankees history. Joins Don Larsen, David Wells, Dave Cone. 24th in MLB history2 points

Definitely, it would be nice though for him to avoid the depths he goes to when he is not dialed in. If he could just be merely below average during his down stretches instead of being absolutely dreadful like he seems to be during them his overall numbers will probably end up falling in line with what we hoped we'd get when we drafted him. For example he had that scorching stretch for a few weeks late last month and early this month but then after that he proceeded to go 3-37 with just 1XBH. Like if his bad stretches could be bad but not THAT bad things could turn out ok.1 point

Splitting 4 with Texas on the road when we had 3 pitching injuries was surprising.1 point

Garcia scolded it but thankfully right to Ibanez and the Tigers hang on. All things considered a solid split against the Rangers.1 point

Mo Bamba was just waived by the Lakers, Weaver's got to be salivating at the thought of picking up another former high draft pick big man.1 point

I'm sure the Trumps are dying to get back to where they can openly receive funding from Russia. All this sneaking around and going through Emirati cut outs has got to bum them out. If Ukraine wants to be solvent and on a sound financial basis they will work hard to solidify the rule of law and not be governed by oligarchs. Then again, the United States and many western countries need to do that too.1 point

Although a system of just community colleges and mega-universities would be an apt allegory for America.1 point

you know the team yzerman wants to build: big on defense, focus on defense. as everyone has pointed out, you still need to score goals. i'm hoping raymond develops into that type of player or that we kind find that guy either through trade or free agency (debrincat maybe). yamamoto is a nice 3rd or 4th line player but he's just more depth. the defense is on its way, imo. theyre bigger, longer, and stronger (except for asp but he's a nasty kid who moves the puck). an im not saying anything we dont already know about the forwards. i still think this is building up to be a "roll 4 lines" team with a big defense who puts pucks on the net and suffocates the other team with physical play. we just need one of lombardi, mazur, or raymond to really break out as "that guy" and they can be a solid playoff team in a couple years, imo. then we can all watch the hawks win multiple stanley cups again. 😞1 point

Demetrius Taylor was the identity of the (hopefully last) Lions player. He was released back in May.1 point

the other thing about the Wings is that yes - they have some guys like Zadina that seem pathologically unable to finish, but their biggest problem isn't yet needing guys that specialize just in putting the puck in the net, it's generating scoring pressure to begin with. They can't get out of their own end, and when they do get in the O zone, they spend too much time neutralized along on the boards. The need more puck possessers, more strong on their skates guys who can get the puck into scoring areas of the ice (and of course better passing would also help). Hopefully that is what guys like Danielson (and maybe Soderblom) profile to do. Get some of that and see if the puck doesn't go in the net a lot more.1 point

Its easy enough to see the benefits of Affirmative Action in hiring when I encounter AA individuals who are solid, crab-bucket clawing strivers who would not have had that chance to demonstrate that without certain opportunities. The US military has produced a lot of talent that wouldn't come forward without its merit-(ish) system. Plenty of racism in the US Mil still but A Colin Powell a Lloyd Austin don't emerge from normal processes. My son was in a social circle that was blessed with an economic class of parent cadres of educated, merit-conscious strivers. He'll be fine.1 point

Brown does undercut her case in laying out so many historical injustices that were in fact de jure. To me college affirmative action is a debate that generates the most heat but I don't believe is where the action should be. It comes way too late in the overall social process to change much regardless of how it is or isn't practiced. To me the fundamental racial issue in the US is economic/political resource allotment, and as long as the society is segrated and political districts are geographical, US minorities will continue to be short shrifted. That is the fundamental problem. I don't know what the answer to it is, but it's not in college affirmative action.1 point

I just tried it today and it was bad. I would have been really good at this when I was younger. Having the Marlins in the grid didn't help. I care less about the Marlins than any franchise ever.1 point

The whole left side of the IF sucks. I mean, Schoop at 3rd base? Limited range and very weak arm.1 point

He's, like, our #8 SP on our depth chart. Maybe even ninth. But yeah, he sucked. But it was to one of the best offenses in baseball. Texas is pretty good.....1 point

I had a drowning scare when I was like five or six years old. At a hotel for my dad’s work conference, my mom took us all to the pool. She was in the hot tub and my older brother was supposed to be watching me and my sister in the bigger pool. I tried taking my floatie off while hanging onto the side (my brother was on the other side) and sank like a rock in a split second. My mom scraped her leg bad scrambling to get to me. I was okay, but probably one of my earliest vivid memories. Ever since I’ve been avoidant of water. I won’t get in the ocean beyond ankle deep and I much prefer the hot tub to the pool. I can swim now fairly well, but I choose not to more often than not. Water is scary powerful, especially in the ocean or Gulf of Mexico where this happened. It doesn’t matter who you are or how strong you are, you can’t breathe underwater. I feel so bad for his family. Probably was with loved ones on the vacation, only for something like this to happen.1 point
