Given Don Jr's evident use of cocaine...should he really be showing off his firearms?3 points

I'm perfectly fine with this law. Drug users -- defined as people who abuse the controlled substances you can actually go to jail for purchase and possession of -- should not be tooling around with firearms. They are either foolish or a menace or both.3 points

Interesting how so many people attacked Sinead O'Connor for ripping up that picture. Before that night, she'd been trying to bring up child abuse in the Catholic church and nobody would listen. So she went to an extreme length. Guess what - she was right all along. Her career tanked after that. Too bad it took another 15 years for the rest of the world to catch up and start doing something about it (not enough, though). Great song, from a great movie too. R.I.P. Sinead.2 points

Especially when your whole strategy is control the strike zone and your young players watch the human windmill at the plate. Do as I say, not as I do.1 point

The boys in the booth mentioned Hal Newhouser having his numbered retired in history today. Found this little tid bit I didn’t know. After his retirement from baseball, Newhouser stepped away from the sport for 20 years, serving as a bank vice president. He later worked as a scout for several MLB teams, including the Houston Astros. Angered when they rebuffed his recommendation to draft future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter in favor of Phil Nevin, he quit shortly after.1 point

Why do you hold the CIA in partcular fault for the Iraq War - it was the Presidential administration that drove us there and it was White House "leadership" driving the aspects of CIA bad behavior. I don't claim to have a clue about Slotkin's CIA work, but in as general proposition, large institutions are generally bigger and greyer than their individual actions. The CIA was an arm of a basically outlaw administration, but as we saw with the Trump admin - it's sometimes a lot better in the long run if some good people stay and throw what sand they can in the gears of the bad actors than to just all flee and leave the field to the baddies. Like a lot of things - it's situational. A high profile resignation can be politically signficant. At the analyst level maybe all that happens is the replacement is a more ideologically driven flack less likely to generate reliable intelligence. Unless you are self employed you aren't likely to ever go very long in a career before you disagree with the ethics of your employer. What you do about it will often depend on how much freedom you happen to have to not participate in what you don't like and how much positive value you think you bring in spite of the company.1 point

Says Vladimir Putin. Propaganda, happily repeated, verbatim, by DPS. Your "yards" is not correct, not even close. "Elastic defense" is PURE Russian propaganda which you've repeated WORD-FOR-WORD. And Ukraine has not "lost" western made equipment. They've recovered most of it and it's in repair shops as we speak. Oh wait, did you expect ZERO equipment or human lives lost in trying to kick Russian invaders out? This is NOT a video game BTW... there are actual DEAD Ukrainian soldiers trying to save their land from the Russian Nazi's who are murdering their wives and children, or kidnapping them. Expecting ZERO equipment or human lives to be lost in a war is a completely ASININE expectation, IMO. Try finding credible sources... not Vladimir Putin or any of his lying propaganda outlets. Question: why are you so EAGER to repeat Russian propaganda? Are you Russian? Do you LOVE fascism or HATE democracy? I mean.. you are actually EAGER to propagate Russian lies. I'm just asking...1 point

Are the Tigers an Eric Haase charity fund? You can't do anything about Baez but Haase is legit cooked. According to twitter, he has a .382(!!!!) OPS in his last ~150 at-bats. He won't be around next year.1 point

"Whataboutism" would be arguing that Hunter Biden shouldn't be prosecuted at all here. I'm guessing most, if not all, don't care one way or another what happens to Hunter Biden. The issue for the Pig Smuggler is that years and years of looking the other way on the former President's kids just completely obliterates one's credibility when it comes to caring about "two-tiered justice". Just cut the bull**** and call it what it is: its about politics, not a "two-tiered justice system"1 point

What's wrong with him? I mean... how the heck did he not get drafted, at all, after a 1.960 OPS season, batting .521, OBP .675... 32 HR's in 45 games... DH only? He's 32 years old and still in college (started late after hitching around the planet for 10 years...)? He has a wooden leg?1 point

Ibanez is actually pretty good at 2nd base. And he's been hitting much better, a tough out.1 point

did cleveland need someone to put on the disabled list? is that a thing? are they trying to win a "who has the most injured players" contest?1 point

He's looking out for his SEC buddies that are probably a big chuck of his financial support and with whom he probably still has a lot of other profitable relationships as well. From what I can figure, the schools seem to be willing to live with whatever status the courts want to give the playrers. What they really want is Congress to protect them from the states. They want Congress to pre-empt state authority over college sports so they only have to deal with a single system. Otherwise state meddling will eventually make it impossible for conferences to exist across state lines.1 point

Looking into the future, I have purchased tickets for game two of the Houston/Detroit series on August 26th. My youngest son, son in law and my seven year old grandson and I will be making our first trip to Comerica Park. I haven't been to Detroit since the last game I went to at Tigers Stadium. I would imagine that Detroit has changed a lot since then. Since we have an eight hour drive to get there, lodging will be important to secure for two nights. I'm hoping that one of you fellow Tigers fans can recommend a place to stay close to the stadium. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.1 point

If we are trading Manning then I am calling Baltimore for Westberg and third base is solved for 5 years. Greene-Tork_Carpenter are becoming a semblance of a middle batting order so I would hesitate to trade Carpenter. Thats progress but the problem is they cover the easiest positions to fill on a team - Leftfield- First base and DH which is why the rebuild is still daunting. Turnbull is fodder in my book and I am tired of his promise. Four seasons with only 60 starts and we are still hoping. Forget it. Get him pitching and trade him this off season.1 point
-
I don't think Carpenter is that bad defensively. he's a guy who you can confidently use as an OF/DH. I think next year they'll be using the DH spot as a way to give guys a rest and not really a fulltime DH. Carpenter is the young player we're developing that we haven't had and now we want to trade him? Not unless the return is really good. Jonathan India would be alright if we could get rid of Javy Baez and use Short/McKinstry at SS. Nick Maton isn't making the most of his second chance. I don't think they need to make a major move. Get someone for Lorenzen and for E-Rod if he is telling them he's leaving. There are some young players coming. There are some young pitchers coming back. I don't think this team is too many players away, actually. They'll have to overpay for a hitter in Free Agency and Keith/Malloy/Meadows might not be great right away, but I don't think a major shakeup is needed now. Schoop is gone. Miggy will soon turn into pure energy and be absorbed into the atmosphere as a ball of pure light and that;s $40 million off the books. If Javy leaves it's what, $65 million and E-Rod might walk away from his $17million. That could be over $80 million off the books that wouldn't hurt the team too badly. Spend smartly, build depth if you can't get a star.1 point
