My 8 year and 12 year old get so frustrated when people are loud. My 8 year old gave someone the evil eye at the last game. I've taught them well.3 points

Could also say that Palin in 2008 invited all of that to boil up. Throw in the first black President and it had elements for victim status among the aggrieved. "Look how they attached a normal housewife who's a Christan.... We got ourselves a black President, who is also Mooslim and... get this... his name is Hussein!" It all tied together. 2008 awakened them and when they stayed home in 2012 it enabled Obama's landslide.2 points

You thought major league scorekeepers were bad... I wouldn't use errors as a judge of minor league defense at all.2 points

Defense vs Shooting Troy said it best. "You can't shoot your way to the top in the NBA. It starts with defense." People love to talk about Golden State, but even with two of the best shooters of all time, we always forget just how good the defense was on those championship teams. That said, my point is not to forsake shooting. What I'm saying is that a combination of Livers and Harris can give you Bogie's 30 minutes per night and replace him as a catch and shoot player. The shooting balances out and you'll gain defense. That's a net positive already and on top of that you gain assets (or another player) from trading a guy who doesn't factor into this team's future and whose usage/value are only going down from their current high point of his career. As for the Ivey comments... First, Ivey had a better 3P% than Mathurin last year (34.3% vs 32.3%). He did that while being the primary offensive initiator playing with G-League players who didn't need to be guarded, while Mathurin was fed off-ball shots. Second, Ivey was in the 88th percentile on catch and shoot threes. That means he was excellent as an off-ball shooter and he figures to get a lot more of those opportunities this year with Cade's return. Third, Ivey showed notable improvement in shooting (and multiple other areas) as the season went on, whereas Mathurin regressed, shooting just 22% from three in his last 10 games. I'll grant you that Sharpe had a better stroke than Ivey last year (36%), but again, he got spoon fed open looks whereas Ivey shouldered the load on a team where practically nobody else had to be guarded. With a year in the books Ivey looks like the best off-ball shooter in this young core, so we can probably drop the outdated pre-draft misconception that the catch-and-shoot 3-ball is going to be one of his issues in the league. Ivey's problems are on the other end of the court, and those struggles simply add to the case that we can't have two guys that don't play defense in the starting lineup. If Troy values defense as much as he claims, then it's a no-brainer to move Bogie while his value is high and work to change the defensive culture of this team.2 points

Pay attention when you are in traffic at a stop light how long it takes to move once the light turns green. I bet 20 years ago you'd have had 3 or 4 more cars make it through the green than you do now. Why? Because people are on their phones and not paying attention. Car in front goes, they are looking down.... "oh, I can go?" On Tuesday a lady in a car next to me was facetiming while driving. Right hand on the wheel, left hand holding the phone. While moving. Her window was down so I slammed my horn when I got next to her and yelled at her. She dropped her phone. It was extremely satisfying. I really do not understand what is so important that requires you to be messing with your phone all the time while driving. I make a thing now when stopped to see how many people reach out for them. Easily 60%.2 points

It's a chicken and egg thing. It's good to talk it up, get as many early adopters that the current tech can work for as possible, because volume and experience is what moves you along the learning curve.2 points

Exactly. Was there an * last season when SF ran out of QBs in the NFC Championship game? That position is a bit more important than a receiver.1 point

I agree it was Palin. I don't think she was ever properly vetted. She had that Mama Grizzly thing and being female was thought to help McCain against Obama. Once she hit the trail the self entitlement, me first, grifter thing came out. She hurt McCain's chances in the long run (his actions during the banking meltdown didn't help) But the current section of the party that became Trumpers loved her.1 point

To be fair to Al, I don't think that was his decision. That's more of a marketing thing. Al's job was the players and coaches. I hate it. Caberera's last game should be wearing the same jersey that our other legends wore. Not some gimmicky gas station knock off.1 point

If Romney had won in 2012, and ran for re-election.... Trump would have run in 2016 as a Democrat and won espousing mostly the same issues he did on the campaign. We'd all be republicans now wondering what happened to the "Democrat" party.1 point

Minnesota’s first-place schedule is not enviable. They’ve got Philly, LAC, KC, SF, and Cincinnati on the schedule, in addition to their divisional games. They really couldn’t afford to lose to Tampa last week. That said, I don’t think they’re going to take going 7-10 lying down. They’ll be a tough team as long as Kirk can throw the ball in the vicinity of Justin Jefferson and know that he’ll probably come down with it.1 point

The Pistons should absolutely offer Bagley here. Porter's contract is not guaranteed until opening night. So they could make the trade and cut him to get out of the Bagley deal and create more cap space next summer.1 point

"Lithium Ion" which more or less what's in your laptop computer and which uses cobalt has been most common so far but builders are starting to look more at Lithium Iron Phosphate. And there are a couple of other variations on Lithium chemistry challenging as well. As an example, LiFePO4 does not provide as high an energy density but it uses no cobalt, which makes it cheaper, may be capable of more cycles, and it is also much less prone to burning up your car. The thing about a car is that ultimate performance is not as important as reliability and life cycle cost. It made sense that early models went with the highest performing batts so they could market the biggest range numbers, but I would guess that as the market matures and people begin to understand how they will use an EV in the real world, they will begin to shop smarter. People right now are obsessing about battery size, but that isn't really what matters for most people most of the time, it's only recharge time per mile driven that is going to matter in the end. A smaller battery is fine if it charges just as fast per mile driven, and charging is readily available - and you will go further per kWhr by saving the extra weight. And in fact since it is easier to move residual heat out of a smaller battery package as a practical matter they may achieve better max charge rates.1 point

Another factor to take into consideration is the fatigued power grid. You have communities in the cold of winter and the heat of summer struggling with rolling brown outs. Now include most of these homes increasing load on the grid with powerful EV chargers.1 point

I joined a just for fun, kind of, league. $100 and you get 10K in funny money to play with on college and pro. Have to bet at least half your money every two weeks. It’s fun. Gives me an excuse to watch the games and my son and I are already spending more time together. I certainly see the appeal and gives me just enough of an adrenaline rush with no real risk in reality.1 point

The temperature issue is a huge problem for me. They are not suitable everyday drivers in cold climates like Michigan. It becomes terribly inefficient and expensive. They go out of their way to hide that fact. The inefficiencies in the current mineral mining and battery technology probably makes the impact on the environment much worse than our current fossil fuels. I agree that once our technology advances in a decade or so, EV will be the way of the future. The way it is being pushed and marketed to the public now is very snake oily.1 point

the youngest coach in d-i sports (UNC Athletics) As the college field hockey season kicks into gear, I'd like to call your attention to a fascinating story out of Chapel Hill. Last year, Erin Matson led UNC to a national championship. This year, at just 23 years old, she's the head coach. How we got here: Matson is one of the best players in the history of the sport. "The Michael Jordan of field hockey," her former coach told The Athletic ($). At 16, the Pennsylvania native became the youngest player to ever make the US national team. At UNC, she led the Tar Heels to four national titles and was named national player of the year three times. Now, she's the youngest coach in D-I sports and is leading many of her former teammates, some of whom were her roommates not too long ago. She's replacing a legend in Karen Shelton, who coached UNC for 42 years and won nine national championships. Shelton intentionally put off retirement until Matson's playing career was over. Then, she gave her the keys. Coming up: No. 2 UNC hosts No. 4 Louisville on Friday in their ACC opener.1 point

This is a good point as to why maybe some cave in or retire.... People are crazy. I can only imagine what it's like for low level people, like say election workers. Imagine someone here gets appointed to some commission that 5 years ago nobody even knew existed. Now confronted with MAGA and Tucker mentiones your name and your phone number and address gets linked.... that's nuts.0 points
