  1. How are the mgoblog links any different from digitalpigsmuggler's MO? Cultlike propaganda, and hilarious to observe.

  5. on the topic of harbaugh since no one asked me... it would not surprise me if he had no knowledge of this. not because i think harbaugh is a saint - he's a football coach and like every big time football coach is looking to press any advantage he can - but because i dont think organization and attention span are his strengths. in short, i think harbaugh isnt very smart and is distracted by ambulances. if you talk to people in chicago they'll tell you how surprised they were he's been so successful because he was "kinda dumb". i think he's a great football coach. one of the best football coaches in the sport and will be successful wherever he goes, even the nfl. but he's constantly distracted, either by the nfl or by shiny objects (josh gattis' spread and shred, don brown's blitzes), or the inability to follow minor rules (cheeseburgers) he probably doesnt even pay attention to, that throw him off track. its not far fetched for me to believe there are lots of things going on in that football program he knows nothing about. jim harbaugh is not the evil genius osu makes him out to be: he's just a big dumb football coach. a very good, big dumb football coach.

  8. putting the mgoblog stuff aside, putting the motownsports trolls aside, i just dont think the punishment fits the crime. as for the media, if this were bama or ohio state or any of the other big name teams it would be a big deal to the media. as for the ncaa, its a big deal because of harbaugh. as for the big ten, its a big deal because its michigan and pettiti has not handled it well. if this is the sec, this never happens this way. the big ten is destroying itself over what is basically a minor violation. michigan is not helping with its combatitive attitude. and in all honesty, i dont believe the "institution" of michigan and specifically the athletic department is very well run. and you can see that in all the stuff that has happened to it very publicly recently.

  12. Reuters: Why is Israel Attacking Southern Gaza Israel told Gazans to flee to the southern part of Gaza and now they are attacking and bombing areas they told people to flee towards just weeks ago. I will reiterate that Israel has a right to defend itself and fight back against the brutal, barbaric attacks lead by Hamas. They do not have a right however to cut people off of basic human rights like food, water, electricity, shelter. They do not have a right to chase everyone out of their homes and bomb them into rubble or hold people hostage at a hospital, with no ability to leave the facility at all as is happing at the al-Shifa hospital. This is a humanitarian crisis that is only going to get worse. We cannot continue to support Israel at all costs in their apparent plans to invade and occupy Gaza. We have to be willing to draw a line in the sand at some point and call out what they are doing.

  28. Speaking of space... yesterday was the anniversary of Apollo 12's launch. For space junkies it calls back to two famous phrases that's become legend "Try SCE to AUX", and "Steely eyed missle man" This write up explains it: On this day in history, on November 14, 1969, Apollo 12 successfully launched to the Moon. But it wasn’t without a little drama. The weather that day at Cape Canaveral in Florida was overcast with light rain and winds. However, at 11:22 am EST, the spacecraft, carrying astronauts Pete Conrad, Richard Gordon, and Alan Bean, blasted off into the clouds, in a seemingly perfect launch. But thirty-seven seconds into launch, all hell broke loose. "What the hell was that?" asked Gordon. Twenty seconds of confusion ensued, and then another disturbance occurred. "Okay, we just lost the platform gang," reported Conrad, "I don't know what happened here. We had everything in the world drop out." The crew and Mission Control didn't know what had happed, and only later determined the Saturn V rocket had been struck by lighting - twice. Were it not for flight controller John Aaron, the mission might have been aborted. Aaron may be remembered more for being instrumental in helping to save Apollo 13, but the part he played in Apollo 12 was just as crucial. When he saw the unusual telemetry readings from Apollo 12. he remembered a flight simulation that took place about a year earlier. He recalled this simulated anomaly concerned an obscure system called Signal Conditioning Equipment (SCE), and remembered normal reading were restored by putting the SCE on its auxiliary setting, which meant that it would run even under low-voltage conditions. So when he quickly called out the recommendation, "Flight, try SCE to "AUX'", most of his mission control colleagues had no idea what he was talking about. Both the flight director and the CapCom asked him to repeat the recommendation. Conrad was unfamiliar with the control but fortunately Alan Bean was familiar with the location of the SCE switch inside the capsule, and flipped it to auxiliary. Telemetry was immediately restored, allowing the mission to continue. This was just one instance that earned Aaron the compliment of being called a "steely-eyed missile man." the absolute highest of NASA compliments. And even today the phrase "SCE to AUX" used to describe a situation where one narrowly averts a catastrophe by coming up with an ingenious plan. (credit - Universe Today, Nancy Atkinson)
