Two days later and it’s still hard to take that L. It was right there for them and they couldn’t close the deal. Still, this is the most successful Lions season in almost 70 years. There’s no reason to whine, blame, or complain. This experience will make them a better team going forward. IMHO, the only thing dumber than blaming Goff is putting Hendon Hooker on a pedestal and insinuating that he’s better. That’s ****ing stupid. Hooker is nothing more than a 3rd round flyer draft pick. There is no part of the Lions future that is impacted in any way by him. He is probably more likely to be cut in 2 years than he is to be a starter. Calling for him to take Goff’s job at this point without so much as taking a single snap is troll level lunacy.3 points

So my question earlier was a bit uninformed yet rhetorical based on casual readings not rising to actual studying. My perception is we have a young group with no claim on position. We are sticking them where they cause the least harm. That’s kind of troublesome.2 points

There sure have been a lot of new faces around here lately. Seems they all suddenly showed up near the end of the season to provide us with their drive-by commentary2 points

You should be, you've wasted everyone's time with shallow, baseless assumptions, and then compounded it by continually doubling down with more of the same.2 points

One other great thing about this playoff run…. It made January a lot of fun. January in Michigan suuuuuucks.2 points

Remember how you felt when the Pistons first lost to the Celtics and it crushed you, got over that hump and then lost to the Lakers (ON A BULLSPIT FOUL CALL AGAINST BILL LAIMBEER THAT EVEN - YEARS LATER - KAREEM SAID WAS NO FOUL). It hurt like hell. They'd never come close. But it toughened them up. Remember the Red Wings getting swept by the Devils after FINALLY getting to the Finals. Then they lost that gut-wrenching series to the Avalanche. A dirty play and the pain from that loss galvanized the team and they won the Stanley Cup on March 26, 1997, the rest of that season was academic, it was theirs from that point on. Those teams were resilient. Does anything ANYTHING AT ALL make you believe this Lions team is not? No way they crumble. No freaking way. They might not win it all, but dammit they are going to be in the final four a few more times with this group - and if Brad keeps drafting this way, even longer. Go ahead and lose hope. I won't and this is a guy who never believed the Lions had a spine before. They do now.2 points

Iran was the reason why I chose the path I did in life. I wrote a book at about age 11 about a spy who freed the hostages. Featured in the book were huge crowds of people shaking their fists and shouting "death to America"! Somehow the spy in my crudely drawn book was able to pull off the job were President Carter could not. Somewhere, in the Reagan years we ended up in a sort of war on Iran over tankers and missiles. Later, much later, our gang of students at grad school would gather on our Thursday night drinking nights and chug beers shouting "bar mar am-reek ka!" (Which in our drunken minds was the death to America chant") which is the exact sort of thing you do when you have infantilized your opponent. In my fancy pants school I learned that yeah, Iran had beef. But, of course...we have beef too. Then, after 9/11 when we were in the midst of the West's righteous rage at Sunni Islam, the Shia punks in Iran said "what about us, mate?" and funded and supplied the weapons to thousands of attacks on US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. We never quite took their measure but we allowed Israel to strike at their nuclear industry. Now, Iran is working in alliance with Putin to stir trouble for the Western democracies. Killing American troops is the tripwire forcing Biden's hands to act despite his wish not to. Trump is trying to slipstream this conflict back into the White House to avoid prison and to become America's dictator. Steve Bannon rubs his gravy-stained hands in the wings as he plots his leninist takeover of the US on behalf of his oligarch friends. So, my feelings at this point are that is the last thing Biden, America and the West needs but we do need to respond.1 point

It is funny how the NHL is just dribbling into the All Star Break. Two games Sunday, one game last night, two games Tuesday, three games Wednesday, and then the break.1 point

That's one way to view it, but I doubt their projections declined if at all. This clears a logjam with Julien and Lewis, and Brooks Lee is knocking on the door. They traded from a strength.1 point

The pandemic slowed things down they say.... sourcing materials and safety issues, etc. I 75 is so different now in that area. As soon as you pass the Rouge bridge going north. There are some good spots in River Rouge to get nice views of it. There's a park hidden in an industrial area.1 point

QBs will always get too much credit and too much blame. Goff was not the reason they lost yesterday. They lost because Dan Campbell wouldn't put his balls away and just play smart. I mean, I get it, but when you are playing an elite team - you take the points where you can get them. Plus their defense is bad, but we've known that for a long time. They got away with a lot of bad defense by preventing red zone TDs, but you can't get away with that against elite teams. Lessons learned - a team that hasn't peaked - it sucks but it's part of growing into a great team and I think with a better defense they can go all the way. They won't fall apart like Fontes teams, not as long as they don't try to keep changing their identity. Just keep the balls in your pants next time, coach.1 point

Goff is so fundamentally sound and has become so good at pre-snap and post snap reads that he snaps the ball, knows exactly where to go with it, and makes the throw. He doesn't hold onto it and dance around to make a play. He gets it, rips it, and makes a completion.1 point

You know who else wasn't mobile and won multiple Super Bowls? Eli Manning and I think Goff is a better QB than Manning. Philip Rivers had a very underrated career and he was the least mobile QB I have ever seen.1 point

I'm going to call out an opinion when it's not based in reality. You know who were pure pocket passers? Brady, Manning, Brees. Arguably the 3 best QBs of their generation that won Superbowls. Which of those guys escaped the pocket and threw on the run? Which of those guys was slinging sidearm throws on the regular? Which of those guys ran for 1st downs more than a handful of times? I'm not saying he's as good as those guys but that's the type of QB those guys were, the type of QB that won multiple Superbowls. You don't like Goff because he doesn't fit the prototype QB that you prefer and that's fine because everybody has their preferences but what is not fine is saying that he's a game manager at best. Game managers aren't around top 5 in nearly every passing categories including deep passes completed btw. He has led a top 5 offense in not only one but two seasons here. He also led a top offense with the Rams, he also led a top offense with Cal. He's won at every stop with different head coaches, different coordinators, different supporting casts. Yes, Goff has limited mobility, Goff is not going to WOW you with flashy plays but the guy has been ultra effective at every stop and has been a consistent winner. You don't like him? You don't think the Lions can win with him? (which is silly since they damn near just made a Superbowl with him). Well, good luck finding a QB as good as him, a guy who has been a top 10 QB in this league. Also, Goff was NOT the reason they lost yesterday. Anybody who thinks that has a clear agenda. The offense scored 31 points and this is including at least 4-5 critical drops that I remember off the top of my head. Josh Reynolds makes a catch on that 4th down and the Lions probably go on to win this game. Josh Reynolds makes a catch on 3rd and 10 that was right in his chest, the Lions stem the momentum at 24-24. Jamo makes a catch that sailed right through his hands down 27-24 then they're up 31-27. Ridiculous that anybody would blame Goff for the loss yesterday. 4 TDs and 0 INTs in the playoffs, no turnovers in 3 games and we have people saying he's not good enough. It's silly season here already and the offseason just began.1 point

Picking on Duren here because he just did it. But the entire team does this and it just mind boggling. Duren stood there waiting for a rebound with his man a good 2-3 feet behind him. He didn't back up and close that gap between him and Gafford. Of course the rebound is long and Gafford grabs it with ease. Back into him and then you get that long rebound and if it comes off short you just step up and grab it. Always have your body on a man when a shot goes up.1 point

I mean, you probably could have saved your money and caught him in Europe next year.1 point
