I deeply regret what I said earlier today. I consider myself a man of faith. And here's a line drive to the gap, two runs score, a double for Castellanos. 2-0 Reds.3 points

Yeah, I was glad to just read that. It was a ridiculously bad decision to hire her. There are many GOP people that could serve as a commentator who can present a conservative perspective that aren’t lying assholes.2 points

I am not expecting SS cuts for me, but I am also not counting on getting full SS. I still say it's a fabricated crisis easily and logically fixed by dropping the cap.2 points

How soon before those purple roofed “Ethicsl Suicide Parlors”* start popping up next to Applebee’s (…. substituted because HoJo’s no longer exist) *(I am guessing a few here will understand the reference.) 🙂2 points

I laugh every time I see the ones where it's parodying glen greenwalt and it always says ", who I do not support, " in the first sentence. It's like Leslie Nielsen running into the trash cans. Every time is funny to me.2 points

I think it has to be more difficult to develop the kind of analytics around hitting as have been accomplished for pitching because with hitting the biomechanics is only half - if even that - of the story. There are so many additional neurological issues - vision, reflex, concentration, decision, layered on top the biomechanics issues around swing, balance, bat speed, etc.. Makes it a more complex problem. You may make a physical change that should theoretically help a guy but maybe it doesn't help because he is blocked somewhere else. It's going to be harder to figure out what's going on. Or maybe another way to put it is you can put guys into better physical approaches, but it may or may not make them better hitters. Obviously if you do at least help the guys that can be helped it should still put your org ahead of an org that can't even do that. Marginal success rates matter even if net success rates never get as high as with pitchers.2 points

Meadows also allows them to move Greene to a corner which gives them plus defense at two positions out there. If Meadows can make decent contact against MLB pitchers in the regular season, he'll be quite an asset.2 points

I honestly don't hate it. I think returns are going to favor running backs more as returners.1 point

One thing you never heard talked about is that if the entire US pension system went private, we might well end up like China (where everyone saves because there is no SS), with a stagnant, over-invested, under consuming economy. It's actually not clear that there is enough investment potential available to absorb all the savings that privatizing SS would generate. The example of China argues it an issue that can't just be dismissed.1 point

With how quickly plays happen, and the "penalty" to an injured player of having to sit out the next play, I doubt it would. They'll want to do their celebration for the big play and get ready for the next rather than fake an injury. It's not like the "late" hits out of bounds where they'll go flailing into a bench to make it look like a much bigger hit than it was. At least I hope.1 point

I would like honest player feedback, especially from someone like JD Martinez who played here then left, about whether the park size impacts them on the road vs at home. I believe it messes with their heads but I never claim to be an expert on such things so it's just me talking here.1 point

If you post on the forum long enough it will happen to you. I've seen this enough that I believe the forum SW has a deep bug in it somewhere that on rare occasions will decide a certain character string is poison and refuse to process a post. You can spend a lot of time parsing through your post trying to find the exact byte string that is causing the rejection (impossibly tedious), or just rephrase your post and it will pass.1 point

This is my hack at creating my first-ever map over at MapChart.net. This is a map of the most-named counties in the US and where they all are. You probably could have guess that Washington is the most common county name, with 32 different counties named that. There's a whole bunch of them centered around the states that came into the union in basically the 1800 to 1830 range, my guess being that the Revolution was still in living memory and honoring its heroes through naming rights was a top priority. As the nation pushed west, county naming imperatives apparently changed. California has only one county among the most common names, and Arizona and western Texas have none, probably because original Spanish geographical names survived. Anyhow, it was really fun to put together and took me only about an hour to learn how to do it and then create the map.1 point

https://www.btselem.org/settler_violence We're not supposed to talk about Israeli settler violence. Those people aren't terrorists, their mere settlers, house hunters looking for a place on Zillow. Well, looking for a place on Zillow and armed with guns and bulldozers.1 point

It's way too early to know the actual details at this point, but bigger picture, there are very few, if any, bridges that would be able to withstand a large container ship of that size taking out one of it's supports. It's not an infrastructure funding issue, it's not a political issue, it has nothing to do with Pete Buttigieg, Joe Biden or any other politician.... it's an engineering mechanics issue. Anybody trying to politicize this stuff, particularly while search and rescue efforts are ongoing, can get lost as far as I'm concerned.1 point

It has really only significantly suppressed home runs significantly in recent years. For years, it was close to neutral. I am not sure what happened. Maybe other parks changed dimensions for more offense or maybe the live ball carries better in other parks or something. I remember Harris said that he liked the unusual dimensions because he felt it potentially gave them an advantage with the right players. I am more interested in seeing what he can do with that than bringing in the fences more. It is something they have not really tried since they moved to Comerica.1 point

Only speculation I have is grab the waist, hold on and slide down to the legs, getting dragged a few more yards in the process, if the ball carrier does not blow open the hold and keep running. The other thing I look forward to is the offensive player jumping in up and throwing his imaginary flag at each and every opportunity.1 point

Yes, I know all this. That's why I said if he's trying to build the team from a less-than-zero standpoint... then he's not able to do this. As you've mentioned, he's had to go out and sign a boatload of FA's just to fill holes. And why I also said: "But now that the team is built up pretty nicely..." I'm hoping he doesn't have to annually sign a crapload of players to fill holes. I guess what that means, ultimately for the team, is that Holmes is successful in drafting, and DC & his coaches "coaching up", enough depth on this team to where Holmes can let 3-5 FA's walk and only have to go out into the market to sign 1 or 2... Meeting your (the NFL's) formula to obtain additional comp picks... Further allowing Holmes & DC to draft and develop depth, future later round starters that require a lot of coaching up, etc... with those extra picks. I don't think we are saying, or want from the Lions, anything different from each other.1 point

No. The problem is you keep looking at a molehill and telling us "THIS IS THE EXACT SAME THING AS THE MOUNTAIN THAT TRUMP DID. AND YOU REFUSE TO CRITICIZE {insert Dem or Liberal name here: } LIKE I AM OVER THIS... THIS... MOUNTAIN (but... it's really just a molehill) !!!" "WHY WON"T YOU CRITICIZE {insert Dem or Liberal name here: } FOR THIS MOUNTAIN?!?!?!" And we keep telling you: "But it's just a molehill. It's not the same thing." But you INSIST that... your molehill-du-jour "REALLY IS A MOUNTAIN!!!" No. It's not.1 point
