  1. I'm guessing they announce the Goff contract tomorrow right before the Rams pick so the fans can chant Jared Goff.

  5. Just think three years ago and you are St Brown and Sewell and you were just drafted to a dumpster fire of an organization and now you are the highest paid players at your position on a Super Bowl contender.

  9. I don't think the Lions need Harrison to become unstoppable. I think they can be JUST as deadly, with: Brian Thomas Adonai Mitchell Xavier Legette Amongst a list of several others that have huge "X" receiver ability, in this deep draft for WR's. IMO.

  10. For a very good hitter to get 3,000 hits in his career, he has to (1) start his career no later than their early 20s; (2) strike out and walk at below-average levels; (3) hardly ever get hurt; and (4) play into his late 30s at the very least. That's a tall order, especially #2.

  11. Sewell was already signed for one more year and the Lions picked up his 5th year option. After that is when this contract picks up. The good thing is the signing bonus is spread of 6 years instead of 4 which reduces the cap. I think they did it similar with St Brown. St Brown doesn't have a 5th year option since he was a 4th round pick so he had one year left. He's under control now for 5 years and the signing bonus will be spread over 5 years.

  12. This team, being run so well and contending....it's a dream come true. So...this is what it's like to have a good football team!

  13. No, not at all. The only time I hear about the salary cap is when somebody posts it or if a team is up against it. But these signings...oh boy!! Let's F'ing GO!!

  14. This is what good teams do. You draft your franchise players and pay them. You use free agency on short term contracts to fills gaps in the roster. You let good but not franchise players like Jonah Jackson get paid elsewhere.

  16. The core of this whole thing is Mikal Bridges, and although it's arguably a slight overpay for a guy who's never been an All-Star, I'd still do it. He's exactly what this team needs, from his defense to his shooting to his iron man availability. As for what we're losing, I'm ok with it because I don't buy Ivey next to Cade with his streaky shooting and poor defense, and we don't have the luxury of keeping him to be a 6th man. Duren may be a better version of Drummond, but I'm not sure if he'll ever space the floor or protect the paint, and I think you have to do one of those two things to be a playoff Center in today's NBA. As for the pick, we all know it's a weak draft. His other moves are OK. I haven't run the cap numbers to see if that maxes us out, but let's assume it does. Centers: I would also have Hartenstein on my list for that Center spot if Claxton gets too pricey. Hartenstein might be cheaper, although his value is going up with his playoff performance. Guards: I'm not sure I like Sasser, Grimes, and Wright as the other 3 guards. It all depends on how comfortable you are with Wright as your backup PG (and starter for 20 games when Cade is out). I might look to move Sasser (maybe with a couple seconds) to bring in an actual backup PG. We should also keep in mind that Ausar works at SG in lineups with other guys who can space (Bridges, Tek, Stew). They were always counting on Cade + one of the other 3 to pop or this whole things goes down the drain. Nothing new there. However, none of these contracts are bad (depending upon what Claxton/Hartenstein costs) and this team would probably be good enough to allow our pick to finally convey to the Knicks. That opens up our flexibility even more for future trades to bring in another All-Star.

  17. The Lions are now at the point where your not just picking for actual starters but depth and future starters. If you can draft position you are strong at (like the OL) but can replace a high salary player 1-3 years from now and also have quality depth in case of an injury, its just as good as picking a starter. That's why drafts are hard to grade even 1 year from the actual draft. It's going to be very hard to find starter in the draft now. CB, K, S, WR (X position) and maybe edge are really the only spots you can really draft a player better than what we already have at the spot we are picking. Not saying it can't happen (especially with Holmes trading history) and we know Holmes can do it, it just will be very difficult. I just don't think this draft is a failure if they don't find an immediate starter. Even if you draft a CB, chances they are starting day 1 is not a guarantee.

  19. Finished the Dallas game. Luka is the best player on earth when he plays defense like that. Speaking of defense. 6 teams played last night and 3 didn't score 100. A fourth only had 105. Playoff basketball.

  20. Getting back to Pujols for a second, what helped make Albert so extraordinary was his ability to stay on field. He averaged 140games/yr over 22 yrs. That puts him in rare company in the modern game. You wonder with how hard guys train and play today if careers like that, which have always been rare, just get rarer. It makes you think about Mike Trout, who probably won't hit many or any of the milestones that looked in easy reach for him a few years ago. Lots of guys in that boat today.

  21. but on the bright side he will go to jail. Then again, i've heard that jail is where criminals learn how to be better criminals. So, he'll likely graduate from Rikkers or Attica to go on to burglary and B&Es.

  33. I was too young and didn't see the Tigers win the World Series in 1968. I knew Dwight Lowry and Bill Fahey. I was a batboy for the Lakeland Tigers from 1981-1985. Dwight Lowry was our starting catcher in 1982 and Bill Fahey was our field manager in 1984. Dwight and Bill, two very good guys. Easy to get along with.

  35. Hey. The both of you are making any kind of actual discourse in this thread impossible right now. There’s more than 3pages of this bickering. I can’t be the only member here who find this off-putting. How about you both take a step back for an hour or two, and perhaps allow others who might like to make a post …. Without it disappearing into this morass of pettiness. Thank you.
