  1. Vierling gets a lot of flack (particularly from certain podcast hosts), but even with Maton and Sands out of the organization, I'd rather have Vierling than Gregory Soto. And it's not even close

  2. Torkelson is going to scuffle until he decides to look outside for either the FB or slider and serve it into RF. He's looking for everything in and they are just pitching him away or off the plate inside and he's being totally mule-headed about it. The most obvious one was after he laced a ball down the LF line foul, you could have bet grandma's SS check the next pitch was going away - and it was 93, thigh high on the outer third screaming 'hit me' and Tork took it. You have to give an MLB pitcher some credit - he's not going to pitch you where you want it just because - you 1st have to make him pay for pitching it somewhere else.

  3. Tork wants to know when Hinch is going to visit him in the off-season to learn what makes him tick.

  5. I agree with you about the football mentality not working for baseball. I think it shows with some folks in here. It can be aggravating at times. I did the math on my theory of winning and splitting series. They have 40 three game series, so that’d be 80-40. Split the rest and the final record is 101-61. Probably a little bit aggressive of a goal, but if they were to hit it, they’d definitely be a playoff team. I do think as a team encounters a series, taking a three game series is probably the general goal in mind unless that team happens to win the first two games of the series. Obviously there are other variables at play that teams are mindful of. What does the pitching staff look like, are they rested well, can they take advantage of the opposition’s pitching staff? What about the position players, are they fully loaded? Case in point, it sounds like Kelly is a bit dinged up right now, and given the nature of catchers, Hinch probably had no choice but to keep Rogers in the games this weekend. If a situation were to come up with the game on the line, it probably wasn’t going to lend itself to pinch hitting for Rogers. And of course the Royals were probably aware of this as well.

  6. Wenceel Perez is living the dream. His post game interview with Trevor Thompson, man, you can just tell he’s on cloud nine. He mentioned calling his folks after the game and hoping they could come see him play. The Tigers need to make that happen and presumably they’re working on it. Then they showed Perez meeting the 6 year old who “caught” his home run ball and his family on the field. That’s good stuff. Perez seems to have brought a bit of a spark to Detroit. For sure he’s passed by Baddoo on the depth chart. Someone else mentioned it elsewhere, but he kind off fell of the radar a season or two ago but resurfaced as a prospect. Got to love it.

  9. Robertson was not drafted by Detroit. Acquired in a trade for Mark Redman, and had already pitched for the Marlins before the trade. Similar to Boyd in that regard.

  16. they love stevenson. he was a hit. the other two played and were ok. but they were projects. he also sent a second round pick for sweat, who was excellent for them. the bears had a top 5 defense after getting sweat. keenan allen, dj moore, cole kmet, and rome odunze are a formidable set of pass catchers. the question for the bears is the offensive line. they took a tackle in round 2 this year who projects to guard. their starting left tackle is a 5th round pick. their iol is "ok" at best. if there is a criticism of poles its that he has ignored the oline. the bears are set up for a long time. however, next year will likely be an up and down season with williams as a rookie. the other issue is coaching. we'll see if eberflus amounts to anything. they had a chance for a reset this year and they failed to do it. which is very typical for the bears.

  17. He was worse last April. Then posted a 115 OPS+ the rest of the season. Think he will start contributing with the bat.

  18. The best thing today, for our long term future, is that Casey Mize is not showing any signs of post TJ struggles. He's not totally back yet, not 100%, but he's not struggling and that bodes well for the Tigers future.

  21. 210. Detroit Lions (from Philadelphia Eagles, compensatory selection): Christian Mahogany, G, Boston College, Grade: A+ This is the best pick of Round 6. Detroit selects a guard many thought would be off the board by Round 3 with the No. 210 overall selection. Mahogany's outstanding power and above-average length make him a mauler in the running game. He'll need time to develop in pass protection and needs to play with more control but this is an incredible value for the Lions.

  23. Gonna be a big ask for this team to finish April above .500 if they continue to not be able to hit the first seven innings every game...late game hero ball isnt sustainable.
