That’s not fair since he had a deal to a contender that ERod vetoed. ERod the person, was at best going through some things that impacted his normal judgement and at worse a compete whack job that had no care about anything team related.6 points

Well it's a $28 million contract over 6 years, so there is no downside risk. The contract will have zero impact on any decision making going forward if Keith is a total bust.2 points

The asymmetry in how Trump or those on the right can absolutely **** on cities with impunity while even the mildest criticism or negative observation of rural America gets you tagged as "elitist".... it's really really old.2 points

Yes. Greene -LF , Verling -CF , Perez- RF , Rogers - C, Canha- 1B, Keith/Ibanenz- 2B ( platoon) Kreidler -SS (just let him sink or swim and his glove is way way better than McKinstry) Urshela- 3B DH - Mallory/Badoo(platoon) -NEVER let them in the field. This is the best defensively and the tiny advantage of platooning and moving players is more than off set by the improved defense of not doing that. Even in the platoon at second both players are playing the SAME position.2 points

Franyerber shows up on Baseball America https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/analyzing-10-standout-complex-league-prospects-so-far-in-2024/ Franyerber Montilla, SS, Tigers (175 wRC+) One of the early favorites of RoboScout, Montilla has been a standout for the Tigers’ FCL squad. In 22 games, Montilla is hitting .346/.481/.556 with just as many walks as strikeouts and underlying data very much backs his performance. Montilla shows strong plate skills with a 13.4% in-zone whiff rate and a low chase rate of 16.7%. On the face of it, those numbers showcase excellent bat-to-ball and pitch recognition skills. Like with Sanchez, Montilla’s 90th percentile EV (102.7 mph) is above-average for his age, and he shows the ability to consistently elevate the ball with a 58% fly+line drive rate. Montilla shows a well-rounded profile at the plate and is one of the more exciting players in complex play.2 points

The over 50 folks on this site are the first generation that has totally grown up with TV commercials our entire life. It's part of who we are. Most are forgettable. Some are annoying but there have been a number of memorable and entertaining commercials too. Post ones that you remember or ones that are getting your attention now. I'll start. Highland Appliance in the 70s and 80s were STRONG with commercials. Many were quite quotable "Jonathan can't come out to play right now, He's practicing the piano" "We were going to give our staff the holiday weekend off, but instead, we're having a sale, sound great Hackett? (Unenthusied) Yipee "Whatever happened to Hamburger A La Ketchup" and of course "50 Watts per channel, Babycakes"1 point

I am sorry. I will remember to set the timer on the VCR before I leave to work. You will need to adjust the tracking if you remember correctly.1 point

Torkelson broke even Monroe, who a few times did criticize Tork's approach at the plate1 point

I never said Harris was not at all responsible. I in fact have said on more than one occasion that as PBO he is responsible whether it’s his actual fault or not. I also don’t know where you got the idea I have "undying faith" in him, unless you’re just trolling, in which case, OK.1 point

Absolutely no one I know who is a feminist or an LGBTQ+ friend feels this way. Maybe it’s a regional thing. Might also be my particular age group. While there is dismay concerning the number of obvious innocents who have been killed in this situation, most recognized that Hamas cannot be appeased nor negotiated with. They are disease. They, and their hateful rhetoric are what has prevented a free Palestine. So, I will have to respectfully disagree with your assessment.1 point

Kriedler smoked a ball earlier with a 105.9EV and it was caught but singles on a ball with a 69.5EV. That's baseball for you.1 point

I want them to keep him as long as they can. You normally don't get better trading a candidate for CY Young to get a bunch of prospects. I would like to see the Tigers fire Hinch, actually try to put a competent team on the field, and keep their best players. The last year the Tigers were competitive was 2016. It seriously should not take 3 presidential cycles for a team to stop sucking in modern baseball. This ownership is unable or unwilling to put a decent product on the field, so I don't see any other option than for the Tigers to trade Skubal, probably at the all star break next season. They are really trying hard to get normal people to not care about the team.1 point

Every soccer mom in America and every suburban senior voter should be hammered with the messaging that people on the right hate you and hate your way of life. Democrats need to punch back and highlight how Republicans have utter contempt for people living in suburban and urban areas.1 point

I think Harris did everything he had to do to make that deal happen and Eduardo pulled the rug out from under it. The Dodgers basically confirmed as much.1 point

The Dolphins were colluding with Payton and Brady while they were still under contract with their teams. The Saints even denied the Dolphins permission to speak with Payton. What the Falcons did was contact Cousins during the tampering period when they are only allowed to contact his agent.1 point

but Harris should be able to trade him for a young middle of the order SS with great defense.1 point

They did it to try to put out the fire for the election, knowing more cases are coming their way. This was an easy one for them.1 point

it is a horseshoe; the wacko right and the wacko left are both wacko; tend to think the wacko right is larger and the wacko left is actually quite powerless; and until recently the wacko left was more silly than dangerous, but obviously that is changing.1 point

If Torkelson, Keith, and Baez hit more along the lines of reasonable expectations rather than their respective OPS+s of 69, 56, and 29, this team is currently in a wildcard spot. Those deltas alone have probably cost a handful of games when they are currently only 3.5 games out.1 point

I was thinking more about you not being alone, I think we're in the same boat. So maybe we're in the minority. I had this team pegged at a "If things go well they could win 85-87 games" Things aren't going well enough to justify that. I'm not surprised by that. I am surprised by some hitting woes but I am also surprised by the starting pitching, even Skubal. That's baseball.1 point

I still keep coming back to the intro presser for Harris. He barely managed to keep from laughing out loud when asked about the Tiger's farm system. He is doing exactly what one should have thought after hearing him speak.1 point

Here it is by median instead of average: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-first-round-pick-worth-baseball-rivka-boord/ The title is wrong, but the chart shows the median by draft position. 1st pick is 12.5 2nd pick is 7.5 After that, the typical pick is replacement level or barely above that.1 point

Other than Skubal, and maybe Greene, there’s pretty much nobody on this team that’s holding much of my interest right now. It’s been a while since I’ve been this bored with a Tiger team this early.1 point

Kreidler just made an error last night so everyone sucks. Especially Baez.1 point

At this point just play Kriedler every day and see what he can do. Josh dummy we talk about giving runway and now we play McKinstry who we know is a bench player.1 point

Of course they'll listen to offers...it's not like Harris is going to plug his ears and yell "la la la" to avoid it. There are times Benetti starts to get a little heavy on "look at me...I'm Bob Costas " style of humor...but on balance, he does well.1 point

I still watch the games, obviously, but the negativity relative to their record or the expectations they had going into the year has made it a lot harder to have fun engaging with others when discussing this team. It's relatively tame here, it's even worse on Twitter or other venues. I'm not saying they are good or that they are where any of us want them to be (they are very mid, they aren't where we want them to be), but the relentless negativity just gets old.1 point

Yeah, I doubt Anthony Blinken will ever call Biden a F***ing moron.1 point

11 teams, out of the other 29, have won more games, 12 have lost fewer. No, I wouldn't call them "good" but I don't think they warrant the beating they get here after a loss. People act like they are the 2003 Tigers sometimes. They are on the the middle of the pack.1 point

Would still like to know who we would have received in return, though it doesn’t matter much now.1 point

Harris has to accept the responsibility as PBO, but it wasn’t his fault the Eduardo trade fell apart. Harris had a deal all worked out with the Dodgers, and at literally the last minute, Eduardo demanded the Dodgers add an extra year to the deal for him to accept it, and they naturally balked at it. That’s was they didn’t get it done, not because Harris is a ****up.1 point
