  2. The guy is 20 years old - political partisans are going to want to hang on every biographical detail that supports whatever their conclusion is, but the reality is twofold: 1.) At that age, political views can be very fluid 2.) There is a possibility or even likelihood that is enhanced by the contradiction here (Registered R with an ActBlue donation in his past) that this is just a random nutjob with an AR-15 The politicization of this is really disappointing but unsurprising in our toxic political culture

  3. I would have no remorse if Trump had a heart attack and died. Honestly, I would probably be happy. What happened yesterday was horrible. Political violence has no place in a democracy. It can not be tolerated regardless of person or party. I am glad that Trump survived and appears to be unharmed. Unfortunately, I fear the attack has caused severe damage to the already fragile civility that was in place.

  4. The Dodgers come to town 47-0 when they have the lead after 8 innings. They're now 47-2. Hee-Hee

  5. All of the hysteria over “what is happening to our country” is just fishing for emotion. Where have these people been? Shooting up babies in school wasn’t enough to wake you up?

  6. These people dismissed Jan 6 and made fun of the spouse of the Speaker of the House when he was attacked. So spare me the condemnations of political violence. It rings hollow.

  7. I was kinda worried about this 7 game homestead against two 1st place teams. 5-2 is better than I even hoped for.

  9. I stopped paying attention and started watching the MST3K takedown of “The Slime People” a really lame 1963 Horror/Sci-fi film on Tubi. And when I idly checked the score and saw it was 9–6 in the bottom of the 9th I flipped on Dan and Andy to follow the rest of the game and was totally expecting to be let down. But Tigers kept scoring and scoring to tie, then I thought we were dead in the water at the top of the 10th and then came Gio’s HR and I just couldn’t believe it. This comeback defied every ingrained particle of defeatism I harbor in my dark little heart.

  14. Your point is well taken, but Project 2025 *does* portend huge changes in the way our government works in ways that are too numerous to list here. And undoubtedly one of the aims after this event by Trump's campaign will be to deem discussion of this as "divisive." Never mind, of course, this gem from one of the architects of the plan, which is in no way divisive at all /s: This campaign has thus far been defined by a lack of substance in favor of style. This event cannot be an excuse not to vet the substance that another Trump administration wishes to put forward.

  20. I agree it should be fully condemned. Even though it happened to a guy who inspired an event which injured 140 police officers and got away with thanks to getting bailed out by the Supreme Court, this kind of retaliation (if that's what it was) is not supposed to be the way we do things in the United States.

  21. I don't like the guy one bit, not one. But political violence has NO PLACE in our country or our society. This should be and will be fully condemned by almost everyone, unlike January 6th.

  28. How about the effort by Maeda today? So far, three innings, no runs, one hit, no walk, five strikeouts. It's a good first step to working his way back into the rotation. Or maybe he has found his new home?

  30. It was this that I saw last night that I was chewing on when making this post. I thought it was profound and stated something I believe in my heart in a really succinct way. Social media is a huge problem in this.... when you deal with people face to face, it's mostly easier to get along and see other perspectives. And to treat them with dignity. These apps have proven how easy it is to sit behind your avatar and sling vile **** at one another. Not to mention how they often decrease actual face time with real human beings.... I'm as guilty of this as anyone, some of it is having young kids and not having as much time for extracurriculars in life (like joining a bowling league or softball). But it's easy to make *this* your reality instead of everything going on around yourself and too many of us, particularly younger people, are doing just that.

  34. I hope we don’t take a linear approach to adding talent—doesn’t have to just be moving veterans for prospects. If we can also package some prospects for a controllable player (i.e., Vladdy or Bichette), we should do that, as well.

  35. The real problem here is that you can't divorce 'Political' violence from any other kind. If you create a violent society, it will be violent in every aspect of its being - there is no way to isolate some arena like politics from the general infection. We accept the senseless death of thousands at the hands of guns every year - politicians will end up as a piece of the cross-section just as inevitably as school children.

  37. I didn't do much looking around the teams, but I bet that duo was a beast. I just wanted the nostalgia of the Palace Guards (sans Vinnie Johnson, sigh). And then the bonus of the single Sean Elliott Piston season to boot? OK< maybe not much of a bonus. The controls really flustered me. I did finally sort of get the hang of it at the end. i was never really good at those games anyway, but I truly felt like an old guy that hadn't played it in about 30 years.

  38. The so-called McStinky had a pretty cool moment in the clubhouse yesterday. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2024/07/13/tigers-upstage-shohei-ohtani-and-los-angeles-with-five-run-rally-in-ninth-giurshela-walk-off-in-10th/74394826007/ Zach McKinstry was still pumping his fists triumphantly in the clubhouse following the Tigers most incredible, most improbable 11-9, 10-inning walk-off win over the N.L. West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday at Comerica Park. How improbable? The Dodgers were 47-0 this season when leading after eight innings and they went into the ninth with a 9-4 lead. "Huh," McKinstry said. "That's cool. Now they're 47-1."

  39. Does anyone know where I can find the Dodgers radio/tv announcers melting down today? I always enjoy that perspective. I do the same with OSU announcers vs M last 3 games. Also any Dodger fan crowd reaction pics as Gio's HR left the yard would be delicious as well.

  40. It's all so disingenuous when you see how apocalyptic and violent the rhetoric can be from their own side as well. Obviously this is a horrible event and should not have happened. We do not want to live in a world where political violence is the norm. But I worry a lot about a toxic political culture in this country that has led to a break down of civility in how we disagree... And this event, awful as it is, is just downstream IMO

  44. In addition to the perceived depth of the draft class, MLB clubs are starting to adjust to the impacts of NIL on their draft strategies. In year's past you could keep a guy from campus with a $500k bonus or if you pop a guy early and give him $1M, it was a no brainer he was signing. Now, with the amount some of these high caliber prep players can get in NIL over three years on campus, combined with the length of time it takes them to make real money on an annual basis coming through the MiLB/MLB rabks, the calculus has shifted and those players can no longer be bought out of college for the sums of past. That factors in heavily in terms of who is available later that you may be able to spend bonus savings to sign over slot
