Skubal and 4 random fans will be the rotation for the rest of the year4 points

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s tweets around 4pm reminding everyone about Flaherty’s no-trade clause.3 points

Unrelated.... but the Villages sounds like a horrible place to live.3 points

Yeah because a hard throwing 23 year old at AA will never make the Tigers bullpen. It also cleared a path for Dingler and replaced a position of need in the organization (catcher). Creating a good farm system is more like smoking ribs for 3 days, not a 15 minute frozen pizza.3 points

I think the factthat we got two FG numbered prospects for Kelly is pretty impressive. Of course, they both have significant holes in their game right now so there’s no guarantee either is going to make an impact for us. At least trading him didn’t bork us completely at catcher. I give Harris a shoot-from-the-hip grade of B for the move.3 points
-
Nope but they had nothing invested in Kelly. Catcher is an org weakness, clears a path for Dingler and Owen is 23 and could make the Tigers BP in a year.3 points

Good for you. Too bad you have wasted 40 years following the Tigers since even their good years brought you no satisfaction.3 points

Edman dealt to the Dodgers. A dark day for MTS forums. Can you hook us up with some Ohtani merch?2 points

Different strokes. We found it a nice place to visit not a big fan of Pigeon Forge and Asheville was too expensive. We ended up near Williamsburg,Va and fell in love with the area. Richmond's airport is about an hour away. Just an hour or so flight to DTW. Three hour drive to the Shenandoah Valley, Raleigh, maybe 6 hours to Hilton Head with Myrtle Beach in between. Snow ( if any ) is mostly gone in a day or two. No unsightly black snow mountains. DC is a two hour train ride. And there's Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. The perfect location for us2 points

If you trade Skubal and Flaherty, you’re basically surrendering the rest of the season and cobbling together a rotation of our AAA guys, injured starters returning and any MLB ready players via trades.2 points

The Athletic gave the Tigers a B- to a B+ for the trade so I wanted more but he is a backup catcher. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5664974/2024/07/28/mlb-trade-grades-rangers-tigers-carson-kelly/2 points

I don’t know, I thought Hillary was great, but then, I was paying attention to her resume and policy statements and not really to her personal likability.2 points

As far as getting organizational fodder in return, the same could have been said about Reese Olsen and Sawyer Gipson-Long when they were acquired. So, who knows?2 points

The whole raison d’etre for rehabbing these veteran players and flipping them at the deadline is to add to your pipeline. This failed to achieve that. The accomplishment of restoring him to a valuable asset was wasted.2 points

And standard caution using any information from Torkmoil whose engagement farming ability far surpasses his attention to detail.2 points

Hicks has good OBP and hits LH. Probably should replace Dingler in Toledo.2 points

I was speaking to him as a politician. The boy is good. He got meat stuck on scar tissue from when he had surgery as a 3 day old being born with a esophageal fistula.2 points

Instead of ignoring this game and discovering that we’re winning or have already won, I have followed it from the beginning, which seems to be bad luck, so as a public service, I will depart and hopefully return to a glorious victory celebration.1 point

Even last year the knock about Tork wasn't that he couldn't turn on a good FB, it's that he was never ready to - which is not quite the same thing.1 point

so apart from the general political chatter that each side always blames the other for everything, what serious argument have you been hearing that blames Hamas on Trump? I suppose you might make a very round about arg that Trump has been a Netanyahu enabler and if not for Bibi being Bibi the situation in Gaza might have been different. You can certainly make that arg, but it's speculative at best. Obama was a Netanyahu nemesis, it didn't make much difference in Israel or Gaza/West Bank to the long term worsening of the situations there. And to be honest, actions taken by a US Admin WRT oil sanctions are not driven by any belief we do or don't trust anyone on the other side, they are taken to affect US gasoline prices - nothing more or less, and I don't think you really doubt that reality.1 point

True, these were actually company owners. I worked for a few small market radio stations. The last one had one of his houses on "Homes of the Rich and Famous". He later flew wife #2 from LA to Texas to hand her divorce papers so he could marry their nanny.1 point

Based on other deals, teams seem pretty stingy with their prospects as usual.1 point

I think when people are refreshing Twitter all day to see a Flaherty (or a long shot Skubal) trade and they see a Ricky Vanasco trade, you can expect some sacastic posts. It's probably more humor than criticism.1 point

Ok, we heard you. Btw, what are free talent pickups—Waiver/dumpster-diving guys? I’m all in favor—they are worth it for the few times you hit (I.e., Ibanez, Holton). I especially like it with pitchers, because they can be Fetter-ized.1 point

I don’t think the decision is on Harris. It’s on the other GM’s. Are they willing to go all in on this season to get to the Series? If so, they will come back to the table with more than what they are offering now.1 point
-
Realistically, I’d be happy with something like this: -Holliday -Norby -Kjerstad -Povich for Skubal and Chafin, if required to sweeten the pot. Will someone run this by Greg and the Orioles message board for review and approval?1 point

Big difference from Lorenzen and Flaherty though. Flaherty will bet a pick near #35 in the draft. Lorenzen wouldn't of..... If we don't get at least a first round grade talent, we keep Flaherty. The return should be better than Hao-Yu.... Dalton Rushing for Flaherty is a good comparison....1 point

I hope we trade him then re-sign him in the off season. That'd be ideal.1 point

Not sure why I would stop rooting for the Tigers after 57 years especially when they didn't have good teams for the majority of those years and now seem to be headed in a positive direction.1 point
-
I wish we could just work out an extension with him. I know given his history and pitchers in general it's a risk but I think it's one worth taking. Its mainly a gut feeling but he just strikes me as a pitcher who barring injury is going to age well and be effective for the next several years.1 point
-
Yea, it's a bit like a 26th man argument. Most important news is Dingler1 point
-
Not sure what your point is, they added very little value to the farm system, and you don’t, ideally, flip assets simply to create space. I surely didn’t expect any kind of haul for Kelly, but I did expect a little more upside, not basically organizational filler.1 point

Jansen is a better than Kelly. Maybe not necessarily numbers wise this year but career wise. Anyone hoping to get anything more than what we got was probably aiming too high. Dingler has the ability to be better than both Kelly and Rogers.1 point
-
That is a very weak return, very little upside, especially compared with what Boston gave up for Jansen.1 point

Trump was not an unknown in 2015. This was published in 1990 - 25 years earlier. https://archive.vanityfair.com/article/share/e515a2cd-a51b-4f83-8d61-6ebb9a104e0a Russia, Hitler, Nazis, etc. - it's all there. An article published in 1927 alleged that Trump's father was a member of the KKK. Trump's grandfather was a known brothel owner.1 point
-
I guess I find the "Trump was an unknown" hard to believe. He was well known in the tabloids for 40 years, and had multiple bankruptcies. And while I never watched The Apprentice (which most likely saved him from yet another financial disaster), I suspect a lot of people knew him from that. I hope that your son fully recovered.1 point
