I can’t believe I have to go all the rest of today and all day tomorrow until there’s a game on Saturday and then there’s another off day on Sunday!2 points

I saw some criicism of both Hinch and Harris, but I don't remember anyone here saying that they would get fired. Not on this site anyway. Sportz isn't here anymore.2 points

Micah Parsons week-to-week with high ankle sprain. PFT reports they are considering resting him for the next two weeks until their bye. He may not play against Detroit. Demarcus Lawrence on IR. Detroit has not forgotten last year’s game. I agree this will be a statement game.2 points

The other good news is Cleveland only has one lefty starter and it’s Matthew Boyd. Predicting a Kerry Carpenter ALDS MVP incoming2 points

i've never seen a manager take a team to 31-11 and a playoff spot with basically one starting pitcher. one and a half good starters? its been amazing what they've done.2 points

Because social media. Look, if there is a shortage, there's a YouTube on how to MacGyver a snow blower and a garden hose into a bidet, so everyone should be fine.2 points

ive always been in the "managers dont really matter until the playoffs" camp, but this year's performance by hinch was master class.2 points

I still kind of can’t believe they won. I left Comerica Park on Sunday thinking that was it. I figured Houston’s experience would win out, and it almost did. That’s playoff baseball. One play in each game is the difference. This team is so much more fun to watch than what we had. Even the good old days. It is easier to accept a 25 year old in his second year striking out than a 35 year old making $18 million. The drama of these games cannot be undersold. This series validated these guys. They didn’t back into the playoffs. They won their games. They weren’t a “just happy to be here” team that to lucky. They beat an org that was a playoff institution and won their own division and more games than the Tigers. The wins weren’t flukes. They grinded out the wins the same way Houston would have had they won the games. You don’t mash your way to wins. You beat throws. You make the routine plays and catches and get the random hit with a guy on base. You get the key DP. LFG.2 points

I remember, in the old days, I assumed we were all seeing the game at the same time. Figured maybe a 5-second delay or so from people in the ballpark. I'd bring my radio to the game and it would be described exactly the same time I was seeing it. Now? My tv feed was 20 seconds behind the MLB At Bat radio feed. The MLB app was showing pitch results about 2 seconds before I heard the radio feed. The Canadian TV stations were showing the ABC feed about 5 seconds before my ABC station was. Sirius XM in my car or via my ios app is a good one minute behind the TV broadcast feed.2 points

In 25 years when people look back on this run they’ll say, “Well, they did have Skubal, Greene, Carpenter, and Meadows.”2 points

I hadn’t run across that wow thank you so much for posting it. I listened to it on the radio in my car but wow.2 points

The Tigers are 79-60 with Riley Greene, 53-36 with Carpenter and a remarkable 56-27 with Meadows. With all three on the roster they played at well above 100 win pace.2 points

Yes, this playoff run kind of takes the cake for being unexpected and redefines the word “miracle“ for baseball.2 points

Not that it means anything but just thinking that this is the first playoff series the Tigers won against a non Yankee or A's team since the 84 World Series. Also just thinking about Detroit sports this year, from 2014-2023 Detroit sports won zero playoff rounds, this year they have now won 3 and 5 if you include Michigan football. After a decade of misery we finally have stuff to cheer about!2 points

This is the single most important thing I've ever learned on guitar. I'd guestimate that 80% of sick guitar solos leverage this:1 point

I've got about 30-some years into the instrument now too..... and I've long thought if I had to do it over again I woulda/shoulda played piano/keys. That said, if it's too late to call the audible.... Folks are right about lessons. I didn't have any lessons until about 2 years ago, and they were extremely helpful. But there are different kinds of lessons..... Some folks teach songs, and even take requests.... like you have a fav song and they'll figure it out and teach it to you. This can be good b/c it can be motivating to learn songs that you love and show off to your friends, but there's a limit to it. I think some sort of hybrid where they have songs and also teach scales, arpeggios, and CAGED would be the gold standard. Or maybe teach the songs in the context of scales, arps and CAGED so you can generalize what you're learning to other things. That was what lessons did for me, he tied all of the scales and CAGED and whatnot together for me. When I called him to set up lessons, he asked me how long I was playing and I said over 25 years and was was like.... You Should be teaching.... and I said... yeah no **** that's why I'm calling you right now. Don't forget to budget for an amp as well. Positive Grid Spark has some pretty cool lil amps that are super versatile and seem great for beginners. I'm a hard core guitar snob cork sniffer as Biff calls them (very fairly) so I'm not too informed on what's a good beginner value but I think Squire is as good as any for that purpose.1 point

I get this, but if they pitch Skubal in 2&5 and then go LWLL so he only pitches once, it doesn't really inspire confidence that they would have pulled out a game five if you could do it all over and have him pitch 1&4. He won't play in three games this series. They can't go 0/3 in those games, no matter what order they come in. For at least one game, the bullpen will have to carry them. If they can make that happen in game one, I give them an 80% chance or better of winning the series with two Skubal starts to go.1 point

Drew Koch (are all Kochs delusional?) wrote that Tals Hill story, saying Mize or Olsen would start game 2 for us and that we had burned through a “ton” of relievers to finish game 1. Clueless on so many levels. I wonder if the Astros players felt the same sort of dismissive attitude, based on how they have historically succeeded so often. They may have thought they were playing the June Tigers, not the August/September/October Tigers. I recall Hader pulling out his batter chart to see how he should pitch to a Tiger (don’t remember who), as if he had slept through the pregame review for pitchers. On to Cleveland and victory!1 point

Did you decide on a guitar? I’m happy to help in any way if you have questions. Everyone who mentioned lessons is right. I did lessons at first and then when I came to a certain point I started being self taught. This was good and bad as I didn’t learn a lot of the “why’s” until much much later. In fact this last year, after playing for 45 years, a pursuit of some “why’s” really kicked down a door for me. Guitar learning never stops; even for us geezers.1 point

My wife works at a major retailer and one of her many jobs is to source the toilet paper. 98% comes from the US or Canada, and the TP does come from China is currently tariffed at 35%. Also, the China TP is way below the standards Americans are use too. Many things may be affected, TP is not one of them.1 point

To be clear, I agree there was a lot of wishcasting here well into this year that Harris hated Hinch, Hinch hated Harris, Ilitch hated them both, that one or both of them were going to get fired, and that Leyland was going to came back on his Marlboro horse and save us all. OK, I made up that last one. But the rest of it, pretty true for certain posters. But I don't think there was ever any broad agreement or consensus here that Hinch would get fired anytime soon. Speaking only for myself, not only did I never think that even for a nanosecond, I've actually thought at points that Hinch might ascend to general manager under Harris, and that someone else, possibly George Lombard, would become field manager. I think that far less now. But even if the Tigers had gone 20-20 in their last 40 games and finished 76-86 instead, I would never have believed that Hinch was in any danger of losing his job here. If that were to happen, I would have despaired for the direction of the franchise, as I did once it became clear that Avila was never going to take analytics seriously.1 point

No doubt. Tell you what, though: when A.J.’s active managing comes up snake eyes a couple games in a row, the board is gonna go right back to that hoary old solid gold biggie, Fire Hinch and the Hitting Coaches. 😏1 point

It all comes down to whether this procedure makes a significant difference in his performance. If Javy comes to ST and hits, and then starts the season and is doing reasonable damage at the plate, he'll fit in well enough. If he doesn't, then yeah - you've got a problem. The worst thing that can happen is that for whatever the reason, they can't get a good read what his performance projects to be so things drag out into the early season and becomes a distraction. If the performance isn't there, I don't see what they can do other than DFA him. Trade would seem impossible. You just hope the DFA decision if necessary, can come sooner rather than later.1 point

Two hours of pregame seems like too much foreplay to me. I think over two hours I would get interested, more interested, very interested, but then I’d suddenly lose interest in the pregame.1 point

No. Reduces travel days. They thought the one game WC format was too random and they could add another team by making them just a best of 3 at the higher seed. Otherwise schedule goes on too long. I’m ok with it. Want a home game? Win more.1 point
