So I just woke up from a nap still half asleep and I go to ESPN to check some football scores and on the top I see Houston up 20-17 to Detroit. Still in a complete daze I'm like "WTF did they move the game up or something" and I get all frazzled only to then realize I'm looking at the score of the Rockets vs. Pistons. lol3 points

third parties can only work in proportional systems because nobody wants to run just be guaranteed to lose. Years ago we had a third party in SE Mi, that started local in A^2 and did win a seat or two on the city council, but couldn't break out of those limits. At the national level, Wallace, Jon Anderson and especially Perot had a lot of money and name recognition but didn't do much to further their agenda. Perot was a conservative but mostly helped a Dem get elected which I doubt was his intent. And that's the thing, most third parties are going to draw the most support from the side they are already most aligned with, thus splitting the vote and electing the side they have the biggest beefs with. That's just counter productive politics, but it's baked into the Constitution's structure.2 points

If Jacksonville had upset Minnesota, that would have been a nice unexpected bonus. But losses by Washington and Atlanta help the Lions' chances for the NFC #1 seed.1 point

Third parties could absolutely influence the direction of the two major parties if the majority of the population would get beyond the fear of voting outside the weathered and worn path. As far as “wasting” a vote logic goes, I’ll never see it that way. You can’t expect real change by pulling the same lever every two years. SOS wash rinse repeat. Had Perot not gotten off message from his economic points and avoided the off again-on again side show, he could have drawn more votes and moved the needle on third party possibilities going forward. Additionally, if there is one thing the Democrats and Republican parties agree on, it’s the fact that they don’t want any competition. Avoid a middle ground at all costs, literally. This is the only objective the two parties work together on. Yet after Tuesday’s election we are as polarized a nation as ever. It’s going to get worse.1 point

It reminds me of the time that everyone in the world knew the Lions needed to get rid of Quinn and Patricia but Sheila Hamp and she gave them that extra, pointless year. Bears in the same spot. Eberflus and McCarthy will both be fired and Ben Johnson is going to be the #1 candidate for both jobs. I sure hope that Johnson's understudy pays very close attention to what he's doing. The Lions OC job should be filled by an insider.1 point

They should have cleaned house after last season. The team is run by idiots. I can relate. 🤨1 point

It will always be a puzzle to me why 50% of the country hates the other 50% politically and too often personally, but when a third or fourth party is on the ballot you’ll be lucky to see 2% of the electorate defect from the dumpster dive.1 point

For me, post election, is how to move forward with people who exposed their true selves. It isn't politics, or a difference of opinion. I can't look at them the same way and just shoot the **** knowing what I know now. A conversation can't be had, because truth, facts and reality just aren't a thing any more. Of all the terrible things about Trump, that's probably the worst.1 point

Yeah, that isn't how a startup operates. A true startup, as in the bull**** that the CEO of a previous company i worked for claimed, was where all the employees put out maximum effort in exchange for the hope of a gigantic payoff in value. I don't see anyone in Congress doing that. I DO see a lot of federal employees doing maximum effort in places where their very lives are at risk around the World but they do not anticipate a massive payout. That's why Trump called them suckers and losers. That's why he hated his generals for coming up in a merit-based system that wasn't rewarding them for being born to the right lucky parent.1 point

Isn’t it already running like a startup? Spending billions and billions practically indiscriminately against far less in revenue? The only real difference is that instead of being propped up and funded by a few billionaire venture capitalists, they’re funded by all the rest of us, and the capitalists are along for the ride. In fact, the venture capitalists are actively skimming and pocketing the proceeds, aided by the company’s officers, and now that everyone can see tat the company is in danger of failing, they’re all circling it like vultures waiting for the right moment to go in and strip it for parts. At least that appears to be the goal. You may see it differently.1 point

We should target Brent Rooker. The A’s like to trade away their stars in their prime. If we sign a 3B, we can package Jace Jung with a few others.1 point

That was a nice little joke which actually dovetails into a serious point. In my view, strictly speaking, I don't regard him as my president. He's the political president of the country I live in. I don't believe there is any expectation of allegiance or obligation I have to the man himself. (Or do you believe there is? That's a different discussion.) Now, maybe he's your president because you like him, claim him, have allegiance to him, and maybe even feel obligated to carry out whatever demands of his you hear in your head. 😉 And that's fine, you're free to claim him as your president in that case. But I don't think just because I live here, I have to express allegiance to him, carry out obligations on his personal behalf, or claim him as my president, any more than you have to claim Joe Biden as your president. You have the freedom not to, a freedom I sincerely hope we don't lose. These may all be distinctions without a difference to you, but they aren't to me.1 point

I really don’t know what shapes are when it comes to hitting a baseball (I just tried to barrel up a pitch I could hit and hoped for something good to happen). Max seems like he’s really embraced this. Unless he’s just trying to impress the brass. I like him—baseball needs young players like him who are engaging and accessible through social media to be successful to help reach a broader audience. https://x.com/maxxclarkk13/status/1852030160519696696?s=461 point

Salvador Perez may be the last of the old school catchers who plays most every day. Of all non-Tigers, he's probably my favorite MLB player1 point

If Liranzo and Briceno continue to develop along the same path we could possibly have two star c-1b and that could be particularly valuable. Not sure if anyone has had two regulars equally share the catching duties before. Starting catchers these days such as Contreras and Rutschman get in about 110-120 games games behind the plate and DH another 30-35 games if they can hit. If Liranzo and Briceno each get about 80 games behind the plate and roughly the same at 1b, they both could get in full seasons at the plate and prolong their catching careers. And the team frees up a roster spot because there is no reserve catcher sitting on the bench. That spot can go to a player with a more useful skill set.1 point

si.com quoting Keith Law of the Athletic: Liranzo, by the way, can really, really throw, and has gone 8 for 16 with a homer and four doubles in limited playing time. I saw one game from him, and it is such a smooth, easy, powerful swing that if he keeps the strikeout rate in check, he's going to be a star," Law wrote.1 point
