  1. Campbell just said Arnold's x rays were negative but he is still pretty "tender", will know more tomorrow.

  2. Drafting a FB in arguably the best QB class ever in 1983, Monte Clark praying the kick goes in, Wayne Fontes caught with cocaine, passing on Randy Moss for Terry Fair in the draft, Barry retired via a fax, Germaine Crowell stays in bounds to run the clock out, Marty takes the wind, Matt Millen, process of the catch with Calvin, Schwartz errently throws the challenge flag, the batted ball in Seattle, a ten second run off against Atlanta, Calvin retires, Aaron Rodgers hail mary, the Silverdome fails to implode, Matt Patricia gets blown out in his debut game on MNF against a rookie QB, Swift drops the game winning catch. All of the anguish and suffering through the years, it was all for this feeling right here. All for the feeling of winning the division and getting the #1 seed in the NFC.

  3. The VP is enthusiastically performing her role to a member of the opposting party with grace and dignity and excitement. You want a striking display of differences between the two parties? You got it here. And you'll get it later today when they certify the results without incident.

  4. Worse than that really. It's not fear of the person, it's fear of admitting the person's humanity, because once you do that, the whole edifice of your ideology is at risk.

  5. Kwesi's inability to draft has to catch up with him at some point. He's like a better version of Martin Mayhew. Kwesi basically traded Jameson to the Lions for Lewis Cine. The Lions also used the pick they got for Hockenson to trade up for Branch.

  6. Lions are 35-9 since they traded Hockenson, and he was given an opportunity to win.

  12. I support things like the National Gaurd and US Military. We already have a standing Army, no need for local militias.

  13. I don't know who Tim Kelly is, but most of the Bleacher Report writers are just bloggers trying to pump out stories every day. There is nothing wrong with that. It's fun, but using them as a source is the same thing as using one of us as a source.

  14. But I’d guess if you proposed the militia idea, they’d squash it very quickly… … because it’s ****ing un-American.

  17. I don't think Hutch gives him the option. He's going out there, Dan Campbell's only choice is whether he wants to get a penalty for too many men by sending out 11 other guys too. I actually think there is a non-zero chance he is activated for the NFC Championship Game, assuming he's medically cleared. I would rather Hutch be activated for that game on a 25-50% snap count, get his legs under him, and have the potential for him to be 100% in the Super Bowl, than have a depth player like Chris Smith active (who recorded 8 snaps last night).

  18. Campbell is usually conservative in bringing players back from injury. If Hutchinson's leg is fully healed, I think he plays.

  19. so years and years ago, I read 'Up From Liberalism" by WF Buckley (agree with him or not he was a great talent) and I remember he made a big deal in the very 1st chapter about Eleanor Roosevelt's supposed intellectual inconsistency when asked (after the war) about whether she would have shaken Hilter's hand. Her intellectual 'rigor' was not sufficient for him and thus neither was liberalism's. Now TBF, ER was nutty enough that no liberal should have felt the need to take responsibility for her anyway (finding inconsistency there was about like shooting fish in a barrel), but the larger point that Buckley and his ilk miss is that in real life 'intellectual rigor' must always founder on the immediate demands of humanity, which is why all rigorous ideological systems, whether left or right, ultimately fail when faced with the necessities of real life.

  22. Campbell started building this 4y ago, getting comfortable with the idea of 4 downs, not 3. Teams are now trying to emulate him, but their mindset is not the same. He has said repeatedly, "we are built for this". Same with 'trick plays'. I am convinced. They have go-to plays and if they miss, it does not infect them. They stay the course. Winning creates so much motivation to keep that faith in him and the riskiness some call recklessness. O'Connell failed yesterday wrongly trying to match Campbell. His team is not built for it. Go Lions! EDIT ADD: And we have a great offense that makes 4th down tries less risky for us. He plays these odds.

  23. I hope something else happens with their starting pitching. They went the whole second half with one starting pitcher and all they've done is add Alex Cobb. Cobb is not a bad signing, but he seems like a big health risk. They are also counting on Olson being healthy which is also questionable.

  24. I obviously wanted the home games as I do believe in the home field advantage (also good for Detroit economy of course). But imho the bye is far more important. A week to rest is huge, especially if Arnold needs to be out for a while. If we had to play Monday night and if Davis isn't ready to be back and if Arnold wasn't able to go... That could have been super rough.

  25. The holidays got in the way and I never continued this conversation. The "have some fun with it" was in reference to fans, like me, who bring this up. But I bring it up because Verlander, at least, compares favorably to somebody like Alex Cobb. They both stunk in 2024. But they were pretty similar in 2023 (Max was a little behind but not too far). So if that is the type of guy the Tigers are looking for, yeah, it appeals to me to bring back Verlander. And if we think Fetter & Co. can coax more performance out of Cobb, why do we not think that about Verlander or Scherzer? I don't really expect that it's going to happen, but I like the idea.

  26. Having watched the Lions a lot more this season (more national games) Its amazing how bad coaching can be at this level. I watch teams making some really boneheaded decisions.

  35. Just the wrong time to do that, no need to go for a big play in that situation. Just get the 1st down and chew up clock and get into half time with a likely 10-3 or 14-3 lead.
