Ironic that the illegal drugs Trump is so worried about crossing the border are the only thing from Mexico that won’t have a tariff.3 points

On February 1, 2003, the space shuttle Columbia breaks up while entering the atmosphere over Texas, killing all seven crew members on board. The U.S. Supreme Court was established by Article Three of the U.S. Constitution, which took effect in March 1789. The Constitution granted the Supreme Court ultimate jurisdiction over all laws, especially those in which constitutionality was at issue. The court was also designated to rule on cases concerning treaties of the United States, foreign diplomats, admiralty practice, and maritime jurisdiction. In September 1789, the Judiciary Act was passed, implementing Article Three by providing for six justices who would serve on the court for life. The same day, President George Washington appointed John Jay to preside as chief justice, and John Rutledge of South Carolina, William Cushing of Massachusetts, John Blair of Virginia, Robert Harrison of Maryland, and James Wilson of Pennsylvania to serve as associate justices. Two days later, all six appointments were confirmed by the U.S. Senate. In the Royal Exchange Building on New York City’s Broad Street, the Supreme Court of the United States assembles for the first time, with Chief Justice John Jay of New York presiding. Because some justices had transportation delays, the first official session began the following day. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/day/february-12 points

Trump is going to find that no matter how strong he thinks the US is, the rest of world united is stronger, and he's doing a bang up job of uniting the world in opposition. He'll be remembered as the Saddam Hussein of the 1st world. Uniting the world against him - and unfortunately us. Fool.2 points

Time to move on. Now that Bregman is apparently signing an 8 year 240 million dollar deal with the fictional New York Knights, it's time to.... Keep Carp. Sign Jack Stick with Vierling/Jung at 3b. We already have bad defense a 2nd base. Totally unproven or below average at 1b with Keith, Malloy and Tork and not good (but not bad) defense at SS, we need something better than Paredes at 3rd. E-Sock is destined to be a DH before he's 30. Plus those 19-22 home runs are more like 16-20 playing 81 at Comerica. Vierling hit 16 last year and he's a better defender at 3rd than E-Sock.1 point
-
Personally I don’t like that at all. 1 yr of Paredes who isn’t a good defender and whose offense will likely be hurt by Comerica for 3-4 years of Carpenter who is our best hitter (and was top 3 in AL) against right handed pitching and still improving.1 point

The compartmentalization among the non-mainstream outlets is actually very smart and a way to avoid getting overwhelmed. But yeah, in a better world, the Times, Post and WSJ would be dividing and conquering each front. Instead, they are largely MIA altogether1 point

I know nothing about this guy. He does seem to have a good track record in Minnesota. Hope he's willing to go no holds barred with Trump, Musk and the rest of the Insurrection Party.1 point

MAGA Stasi is now getting a list of all FBI analysts and rando techs who assisted on J6 cases, and will fire them like they did to attorneys and FBI agents. MAGA!1 point

These so-called experts that have spent their careers managing the California water supply need to spend more time reading maga Twitter. It only takes a few seconds to see this a great thing because something, something whatever, having to do with DEI, Biden, Trans, Fentanyl, Obama, Illegals, Pronouns, Canada, Leftist Officials, or Fake News.1 point

There's also the possibility that Jim Bowden is speculating and doesn't have any special insight into any of it. Remember, just a month or two ago, Ken Rosenthal assured us that that the Tigers would never spend for someone like Bregman... now the story is that they have the best deal.1 point

I was reading about Apollo 14 today b/c of the anniversary of the launch. It’s also the anniversary of the mission almost being altered. After launch they do a few orbits to make sure everything is ok. Then they do what’s called trans lunar injection (TLI) where they fire their S-IVB stage for about 5 minutes to a velocity that shoots them in a trajectory to where the moon will be in a few days. After that burn is when they do transposition and docking. Inside the now deleted third stage of the rocket is the lunar module. They separate then turn around and face and begin the docking sequence. This was never a problem on the previous 5 missions but on this one they couldn’t get a hard dock. When certain connections were made 12 latches would fire and seal. They tried 5 times. What I didn’t know is they brought back the docking mechanism with them. It comes off because that’s the area where the tunnel is to go from ship to ship. Previous missions would leave it with the lunar module due to weight. Turned out it was debris that prevented the initial attempts. Dirt could have halted a billion dollar mission. They reused that docking mechanism on a Skylab mission.1 point

clearly opinions on Maeda can vary. I think he's toast - but we will get to see for ourselves because there is little question they are going to start the season with him. I won't be heartbroken if he pitches well, but surprised.1 point

Could SCOTUS possibly save up? Somebody has to hold him in check. And I still say there's no way the elections were legit. All the MAGA wins are suspect. Trump is the king of projection and all he talked about for the last 4 years was rigged elections. Projecting his plans...1 point

We need to face it, the US public is too under educated to self-govern itself in a technological era. We either have to start educating people to an acceptable level of civic/economy competence, or prove Xi correct and let ourselves collapse. The problem is there is no short term solution at this point.1 point

He has long believed the US has let get itself get the short end of the stick in trade negotiations so he thinks he's somehow helping the US worker/economy. But I just don't see these arbitrary, scattershot, capricious actions as being the kind of thing that's going to encourage any American businesses to start re-shoring. If Trump had a long term plan with investment supports, tax policy, and legally locked in tariffs over a term that a business could use as the basis to go borrow money to invest that would be one thing, but these kinds of actions are here today and could as easily be gone tomorrow based Donnie's daily choler. Hard to imagine any sane org making investment decisions based on this.1 point

I think we've learning that far leftists and hard right wingers are cut from the same "hey look at me, I'm different, look at me!" cloth. Whichever gets them the most attention, that's what they're gonna do.1 point

Trump's talking points on sending water from the north have never made sense scientifically, but they were always equally inane from a political standpoint as well for this very reason.... the people most impacted by more and more water being sent from Central and Northern Cal down to the LA Basin are very very R constituencies.1 point

When will society understand the danger to us all are these men who have been abused and their minds are warped by violence and they become predators who victimize everyone they can? Nope. Let's deport pregnant women. I believe free mental health care would help prevent so many of our problems with drugs and violence and would save so much money overall.1 point

i was living in Minneapolis when Target opened. Enjoyed seeing the Tigers there a few times. Nice park. Also liked being able to park at MOA and hop the Hiawatha (now the Blue Line). People in Det don't know what they're missing with the lack of transit.1 point

And to those who disagree with the Trump administration - think about what you are going to do, or try to do, to counter MAGA fascism and the oligarchy. What are your own 'red lines'? And do not post those thoughts anywhere on the Internet.0 points
