Referee crew announced. Silver sent in New Yorker, Zach Zarba, to officiate tonight's game. Tibbs reinforcements have been parachuted in to save them. I hope Beasley is angry about not getting 6th man, because I was already expecting a Knick conga to the free throw line. We're going to need to shoot ourselves ahead in this one for any chance at winning. That Boston/NY matchup is a truck full of money the league doesn't want to miss out on.2 points

The Texans already traded two 5ths (this year and 2027) to the Browns for their 6th and two 7ths. I could see Brad doing something similar... trading our 6th and two 7ths for a couple of 5th rounders, with one in a future draft... especially if he has a "Lions 3rd round grade" on a guy they really LOVE and he's slipped into the 5th round... It would make sense to chase quality rather than quantity...1 point

You're right, it will not come from CNN or any other one entity. CNN is not leading this, and I am not suggesting as much. They are part of what might be a building wave. I just think it's good to see. The pessimist is allowing a little hope to seep in.1 point

It won't come from CNN or other major media entity. Surprisingly, the best hope is the big business community. They won't help us, but they might limit the damage and allow a Trumpless future. He will soon make some half ass deals and call them the best deals ever and his cult will be happy.1 point

It's the Trey Sweeneys that are one of the things that separate good orgs from bad ones. There solid players out there all the time and some teams identify them and get them, and other teams don't, and it's the strength in the middle and bottom of a team's line-up that is usually made up of those players that make for winning teams.1 point

Because it was his own fault runs scored. His job is to get batters out, if he fails, those runs should be earned. I'm not saying it makes sense, i seldom do. 😅1 point

i thought draymond nudged him and he lost his balance. i dont think anyone was at fault there. just bad timing. however, draymond has been a real menace this series. he's unhinged and is going to hurt somebody. laimbeer was a whiny baby and way too physical sometimes, but everyone played that way in the 80s. draymond is a whole different kind of crazy.1 point

Remember when major leaguers left their gloves on the field while they came up to bat? Neither do I. And neither do you unless you're at least 80, because the rule requiring players to bring their gloves off the field was adopted during the winter of 1953-54. But, as with every rule change, there was vociferous opposition by the conservatives in the game. Well, going into 1954, those conservatives included the American League itself, which voted 7-1 to not require their teams to enforce the new rule. They objected partially on the basis of it never hurt anyone before (dubious claim), but, also, on the basis that it would unnecessarily delay games. Why, just imagine a player stranded on second base with the third out. All he had to do is trot to his glove just a few feet away and he's ready to go. But noooo ... now he's got to trudge all the way back to the dugout to get his glove and then go back out to his position in the field. Can you imagine how much time that will take?? Why, ball games will balloon to three hours if we make players take their gloves into the dugouts with them!1 point

Jamo is as good as gone in a year or two IMO and out of the Gibbs, Branch, LaPorta and Campbell quartet, I could see LaPorta being the odd man out. One or two of these guys are getting moved or just let go, we should come to terms with that. Just keep drafting well and the Lions will be fine. My biggest concern is that they had two golden opportunities the last two seasons to win a Superbowl or at least get there. Up 24-7 against the Niners in the NFCG and 15-2 last year while they had cap flexibility with a bunch of key players on rookie deal. This is Year 3 of the Superbowl window IMO and the last year with cap flexibility depending on how they stagger the new contracts so the clock is ticking because the cap crunch is coming and the Lions are going to have to pay the piper eventually. Teams that don't have elite of the elite QBs have relatively brief SB windows, the Lions need to cash in on that the next few years (this year in particular) because it's only going to get tougher. Looking at the schedule this year? Yikes, the Lions are going to have to REALLY earn it this year. It has to be one of the toughest schedules in the league. There will be no 15-2 this year.1 point

This was my main fear heading in. The league would love a Boston/NY series. They aren’t going to try and fix the game but they can do subtle things like this to make it easier to get the matchup they’d prefer.1 point

Comedy is subjective, like music. Hardest I ever heard my dad laugh was seeing the movie Big where Thom Hanks is eating the mini corn like a corn on the cob at the Christmas Party. I mean, it was funny, but not as funny as HE thought.1 point

Agreed! Lower minors being strong while the parent club being strong as well is a good sign. The injuries they have had from an OF perspective has also weakened Toledo. In the near future you will probably see Malloy, Perez and Jung or Sweeney in the Toledo lineup once Meadows, Perez, Vierling are back in the mix.1 point

I wonder if the pre-DH NL to make up for the lack of offense from a pitcher had to — at the risk of sounding clichéish — play a scrappier more aggressive kind of baseball where they had to get creative and manufacture runs and they have retained that practice which with the addition of the DH has given them an edge.1 point

Imagine how big the disparity will get by the end of the season when the Chicago White Sox have played 48 games against the NL….1 point
-
I did a presentation a few years ago maintaining that the American Leaguer was a tougher, stronger, better league than the national league, full stop. That was before universal DH, which I think had a greater effect on the disparity than people at the time were willing to admit.1 point
-
Right now on April 24 in interleague play the American League is losing to the NL by 54–67. The Twins and the Athletics are largely the cause of this by going 7–17. And who hasn’t played a single game against the NL yet? The White Sox, so the disparity is certain to get worse.1 point

I just ran the numbers on Tiger ERA. Starters (aside from Keider) 2.78. Relievers 2.80 (including Maeda. It's 2.18 sans Maeda.). Amazing to think that we really had one starter for weeks last season. By the way, has anyone mentioned Dingler's record setting throw to second to catch Tatis. Fastest time ever for a catcher's throw to second (maybe to any base. Not sure which one.). 88+ mph. This is just damn exciting stuff.1 point

They'd be trading Jamo because of future cap issues so they're not trading for a guy that will likely command an even bigger contract. It makes no sense to trade Jamo now. He's not going to net a return that would make it worth it and they have 2 more years of team control, cheap rookie contract next year then they can franchise tag him the year after like the Bengals did with Higgins. Then let him walk if he's so good that he'll be too pricey to retain and get a 3rd round comp pick so you squeeze 2 more years out of Jamo and still get a 3rd anyway.1 point

Well put, balanced take and I totally agree. For what it's worth, I re-watched the game last night. I was going to do that anyway, but since we were talking about it I paid particular attention to KAT and Tobias. Harris actual did a phenomenal job of not leaving KAT to the point where he gave some open looks to other guys when maybe he should have switched. He was always between KAT and the ball, denying the pass and not letting him get any catch and shoot opportunities. That's the assignment against someone as soft as KAT. As far as KAT taking the ball into the paint. Three of his makes in the first half were against Cade (missed switch), Duren (prayer that went in), and Reed. He had a couple of nice post ups on Tobias, but Tobias also stopped him a couple of times in the paint. In the second half KAT had 3 opportunities in the paint. Tobias stopped him in the post on the first one in the 3rd quarter. Then, in the fourth quarter KAT had 2 chances. One was a post up and one was a drive. On both of them he was smothered by Tobias (and some help) so he had to pass out of them and couldn't even get a shot up. As you said, KAT could have been less of a punk and kept going to the paint to demand the ball, but we all know that ain't KAT. The few opportunities he did try in the second half were shut down by really good defense. We already agree on all this, but I just figured I'd post some details here since I re-watched it with this in mind.1 point
