SF really makes no sense as Buster Posy is now is charge and Harris would have to report to him. That's a demotion no matter what your title is. Not sure is it "shallow" to want to be in charge, but that is exactly what Harris has in Detroit. Control - control from a hands off owner who spends on all sorts of things whenever he is asked to by Avila and Harris. I know we are supposed to say Ilitch is cheap, but that's not true. Harris has pissed away $50M on 3 contract to Boyd, Maeda and Cobb and gotten zero in return, and we have not heard a peep from Ilitch about it. They are poised to be competitive for the long term.

The thing that is so much fun about this team? In 90% of games played, whether we win or lose, we outplay the other team. We've had teams before that relied on brute force offense or just shutdown pitching, and we could win enough - but at the end of the game the highlight plays were usually by the other side. This team virtually always makes the smart play, they execute everything, take every base, they have some top level defenders in Meadows, Green, Dingler, Jake, Baez and the one OF that's not a great fielder does have a great arm. They play great baseball to watch. Now if we could just get Wenceel's baserunning fixed....

The league does a bad job promoting young stars. A third of the league plays on Christmas day with Ant and Victor being the only two young guys to play this year. Half of those games should be young guys. Neither of these teams played, how is that? Sacrifice one days ratings to build long term ratings. I also agree with Silver that so much of the media coverage is negative. But what he doesn't mention is, if everyone says bad things about you, maybe you need to look in the mirror a bit. I mean, why is the casual fan turning the finals on? Last time he turned an NBA game on was the all star game and he saw 24 guys that didn't give a ****. Shame really. There is zero harm in acknowledging this I would add this is, at least at this moment, a deeply polarized country, much more deeply polarized than it was in 2008. I agree with the need to break that, but we need to be clear that is something that will not be broken in one Midterm and Presidential election cycle... It's more of a generational problem

Coincidentally, apropos of not this, I started rewatching Bridge of Spies, in which Tom Hanks plays a lawyer defending the Soviet spy Rudolf Abel, in which the US decided they needed to look like he was getting due process as part of their ideological war with the Soviets, but everybody up and down the chain just wanted it to be a pretext to railroad the spy without any real effort to defend him—all except Tom hanks, of course. While listening to the Hanks character wax poetic about how American justice was designed to be afforded to anyone regardless of background or citizenship, I kept thinking, man, that just sounds so naive these days.

you don't even need 'grit' or 'edge' to forecheck, you just have to skate fast and hard be a little relentless. To me the 'attitude' aspect is way overrated. The Wings have had attitude guys whose skating wasn't good enough to make a difference in the forecheck and they were just as useless for helping the Wings overcome their possession game problems, grit or not.
